Abstract:We introduce the spin Hecke algebra, which is a q-deformation of the spin symmetric group algebra, and its affine generalization. We establish an algebra isomorphism which relates our spin (affine) Hecke algebras to the (affine) Hecke–Clifford algebras of Olshanski and Jones–Nazarov. Relation between the spin (affine) Hecke algebra and a nonstandard presentation of the usual (affine) Hecke algebra is displayed, and the notion of covering (affine) Hecke algebra is introduced to provide a link between these algebras. Various algebraic structures for the spin (affine) Hecke algebra are established.

Abstract:The nilpotence variety for extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a cone over a quadric in projective space. The pure spinor correspondence, which relates the description of off-shell supermultiplets to the classification of modules over the corresponding hypersurface ring, reduces to a classical problem of linear algebra. Spinor bundles, which correspond to maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules, serve as basic building blocks. Koszul duality appears as a deformed version of the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand correspondence that we make fully concrete. We illustrate in numerous examples the close relationship between these connections and the powerful graphical technology of Adinkras, which appear as a decategorification of special complexes on quadrics. We emphasize the role of R-symmetry for recovering higher-dimensional gauge and gravity multiplets.

The spinor string in a Clifford substructure of space-time

Abstract:We factorize the space-time coordinates of Minkowski space into Weyl spinors with components in a split Clifford algebra. Poisson brackets are defined for Clifford-valued canonical variables and applied to the quantization of the point particle and string. In particular, we obtain the Lorentz algebra for the quantum string, and show that the string supports both integral and half-integral spin states. Commutation and anti-commutation relations are derived for the amplitudes of the spinning string. The Clifford algebra is augmented with the octonions through an R-algebra tensor product, and we apply the results of Manogue, Schray and Dray on octonionic Lorentz transformations to obtain a Lorentz invariant string action in ten dimensions.

Complexifying the spacetime algebra by means of an extra timelike dimension: Pin, Spin and algebraic spinors

Abstract:Because of the isomorphism ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{1,3}(\Bbb{C})\cong{C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{2,3}(\Bbb{R})$, it is possible to complexify the spacetime Clifford algebra ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{1,3}(\Bbb{R})$ by adding one additional timelike dimension to the Minkowski spacetime. In a recent work we showed how this treatment provide a particular interpretation of Dirac particles and antiparticles in terms of the new temporal dimension. In this article we thoroughly study the structure of the real Clifford algebra ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{2,3}(\Bbb{R})$ paying special attention to the isomorphism ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{1,3}(\Bbb{C})\cong{C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{2,3}(\Bbb{R})$ and the embedding ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{1,3}(\Bbb{R})\subseteq{C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{2,3}(\Bbb{R})$. On the first half of this article we analyze the Pin and Spin groups and construct an injective mapping $\operatorname{Pin}(1,3)\hookrightarrow\operatorname{Spin}(2,3)$, obtaining in particular elements in $\operatorname{Spin}(2,3)$ that represent parity and time reversal. On the second half of this paper we study the spinor space of the algebra and prove that the usual structure of complex spinors in ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{1,3}(\Bbb{C})$ is reproduced by the Clifford conjugation inner product for real spinors in ${C \kern -0.1em \ell}_{2,3}(\Bbb{R})$.

Abstract:We consider a construction of the fundamental spin representations of the simple Lie algebras $\mathfrak{so}(n)$ in terms of binary arithmetic of fixed width integers. This gives the spin matrices as a Lie subalgebra of a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded associative algebra (rather than the usual $\mathbb{N}$-filtered Clifford algebra). Our description gives a quick way to write down the spin matrices, and gives a way to encode some extra structure, such as the real structure which is invariant under the compact real form, for some $n$. Additionally we can encode the spin representations combinatorially as (coloured) graphs.

Abstract:The exterior algebra of Minkowski space naturally has the structure of a sixteen-dimensional Clifford algebra representation, and so can be used as the space of spinors. We examine plane, circular, and spherical solutions to the free Dirac equation in this extended notion of Minkowski space, and indicate how they can be used to obtain solutions to the standard four-dimensional Dirac equation.

Abstract:It is known that there is a correspondence between representations of superalgebras and ordinary (non-graded) algebras. Keeping in mind this type of correspondence between the twisted quantum affine superalgebra $U_{q}(gl(2r|1)^{(2)})$ and the non-twisted quantum affine algebra $U_{q}(so(2r+1)^{(1)})$, we proposed, in the previous paper [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1109.5524" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1109.5524">arXiv:1109.5524</a>], a Wronskian solution of the T-system for $U_{q}(so(2r+1)^{(1)})$ as a reduction (folding) of the Wronskian solution for the non-twisted quantum affine superalgebra $U_{q}(gl(2r|1)^{(1)})$. In this paper, we elaborate on this solution, and give a proof missing in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1109.5524" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1109.5524">arXiv:1109.5524</a>]. In particular, we explain its connection to the Cherednik-Bazhanov-Reshetikhin (quantum Jacobi-Trudi) type determinant solution known in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="hep-th/9506167" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9506167">arXiv:hep-th/9506167</a>]. We also propose Wronskian-type expressions of T-functions (eigenvalues of transfer matrices) labeled by non-rectangular Young diagrams, which are quantum affine algebra analogues of the Weyl character formula for $so(2r+1)$. We show that T-functions for spinorial representations of $U_{q}(so(2r+1)^{(1)})$ are related to reductions of T-functions for asymptotic typical representations of $U_{q}(gl(2r|1)^{(1)})$.

Quantum Spin Chains and Symmetric Functions

Abstract:We consider the question of what quantum spin chains naturally encode in their Hilbert space. It turns out that quantum spin chains are rather rich systems, naturally encoding solutions to various problems in combinatorics, group theory, and algebraic geometry. In the case of the XX Heisenberg spin chain these are given by skew Kostka numbers, skew characters of the symmetric group, and Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. As we show, this is revealed by a fermionic representation of the theory of "quantized" symmetric functions formulated by Fomin and Greene, which provides a powerful framework for constructing operators extracting this data from the Hilbert space of quantum spin chains. Furthermore, these operators are diagonalized by the Bethe basis of the quantum spin chain. Underlying this is the fact that quantum spin chains are examples of "quantum integrable systems." This is somewhat analogous to bosons encoding permanents and fermions encoding determinants. This points towards considering quantum integrable systems, and the combinatorics associated with them, as potentially interesting targets for quantum computers.

Abstract:We establish the spin-statistics theorem for topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) in the framework of Atiyah. We incorporate spin via spin structures on bordisms, and represent statistics using super vector spaces. Unitarity is implemented using dagger categories, in a manner that is equivalent to the approach of Freed–Hopkins, who employed -equivariant functors to address reflection-positivity. A key contribution of our work is the introduction of the notion of fermionically dagger compact categories, which extends the well-established concept of dagger compact categories. We show that both the spin bordism category and the category of super Hilbert spaces are examples of fermionically dagger compact categories. The spin-statistics theorem for TQFTs emerges as a specific case of a more general result concerning symmetric monoidal dagger functors between fermionically dagger compact categories.

Abstract:The space of spinors, defined as the basic representation of a Clifford algebra, can be expressed as the spin representation of an orthogonal Lie algebra. At the same time, these spin representations can also be characterized as finite-dimensional projective representations of the special orthogonal group. From a geometrical perspective, the behavior of spinors under the action of Lie groups can be examined. Thus, one has the advantage of making a concrete and basic explanation about what spinors are in a geometrical sense. In this study, the spinor representations of an orthogonal frame moving on a analytic curve is investigated geometrically. The spinor equations corresponding to a modified orthogonal frame and a modified orthogonal frame with are derived. The relations between modified orthogonal frames and the Frenet frame are established regarding their spinor formulations. Our motivation in this paper is to give spinor representations of the modified orthogonal frame. Consequently, this study has been planned as an interdisciplinary study between Clifford algebras and geometry.
