Abstract:We estimate in the QCD sum rule approach the amount of the nucleon spin carried by the gluon angular momentum: the sum of the gluon spin and orbital angular momenta. The result indicates that gluons contribute at least one half of the nucleon spin at scale of 1 GeV^2.

Abstract:We address the proton spin puzzle with a fully relativistic and nonperturbative approach based on a light-front quantized Hamiltonian with quantum chromodynamics (QCD) input. From this, we calculate the effects from incorporating a dynamical gluon on the proton’s gluon densities, helicity distribution, and orbital angular momentum that constitute the proton spin sum rule. We predict about 26% of the proton’s spin is carried by the gluon’s helicity and about 1.3% by its orbital angular momentum in low-momentum transfer experiments. Our approach also provides a good quality description of the proton’s quark distribution functions following QCD scale evolution.

Abstract:We have calculated the Orbital Angular Momentum of quarks and gluons in the nucleon. The calculations are carried out in the next to leading order utilizing the so-called valon model. It is found that the average quark orbital angular momentum is positive, but small, and the average gluon orbital angular momentum is negative and large. We also report on some regularities about the total angular momentum of the quarks and the gluon, as well as on the orbital angular momentum of the separate partons. We have also provided partonic angular momentum, $L^{q,g}$ as a function of $Q^2$.

Abstract:The 0(++) glueball mass is analyzed in the QCD sum rules. We show that in order to determine the 0(++) glueball mass by using the QCD sum rules method, it is necessary to clarify the following three ingredients: (1) to choose the appropriate moment with acceptable parameters which satisfy all of the criteria; (2) to take into account the radiative corrections; (3) to estimate an additional contribution to the glueball mass from the lowest lying (q) over bar q resonance. We conclude that the key point is to choose suitable moments to determine the 0(++) glueball mass; the radiative corrections do not affect it sensitively and the composite resonance has little effect on it. Abstract:The transversely-polarized state of a proton with arbitrary momentum is not an eigenstate of transverse angular momentum operator. The latter does not commute with the QCD Hamiltonian. However, the expectation value of the transverse angular momentum in the state is well-defined and grows proportionally to the energy of the particle. The transverse spin content of the proton is analyzed in terms of the QCD angular momentum structure. In particular, we reconfirm that the generalized parton distributions $H+E$ provide transverse orbital angular momentum densities of quarks and gluons in the infinite momentum frame.

Abstract:The fractal properties of the total potential energy V as a function of time t are studied for a number of systems, including realistic models of proteins (PPT, BPTI and myoglobin). The fractal dimension of V(t), characterized by the exponent \gamma, is almost independent of temperature and increases with time, more slowly the larger the protein. Perhaps the most striking observation of this study is the apparent universality of the fractal dimension, which depends only weakly on the type of molecular system. We explain this behavior by assuming that fractality is caused by a self-generated dynamical noise, a consequence of intermode coupling due to anharmonicity. Global topological features of the potential energy landscape are found to have little effect on the observed fractal behavior.

Gluon contribution to the angular momentum distribution of a dressed quark state

Abstract:We compute the contribution of the gluonic component of the energy-momentum tensor (EMT) to the angular momentum density in various decompositions. We use the light-front Hamiltonian technique, and a two-component formalism in light-front gauge, where the constrained degrees of freedom are eliminated. Instead of a nucleon, we consider a simple composite spin-$1/2$ state, namely a quark dressed with a gluon. We present two dimensional light-front distributions in transverse impact parameter space, and compare the different angular momentum decompositions at the density level. Incorporating also the contribution coming from the quark part of the EMT, we verify the spin sum rule for such a state.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the instanton effects to the mass of 0(++) glueball by QCD sum rule approach. The instantons are assummed to be free from each other and be with definite density varying with their sizes. We find the upper bound of mass of the 0(++) glueball is 1.3GeV and very possibly the mass can be as low as 1GeV. Besides, the instanton effects greatly improve the stability of the sum rule and overtake the contribution of quarks and gluons condensate. The centre size of instantons at 1/3fm can give the stablest sum rule.

Abstract:Axial vector (J(PC) = 1(++)) charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are determined via QCD Laplace sum-rules. Previous sum-rule studies in this channel did not incorporate the dimension-six gluon condensate, which has been shown to be important for 1(--) and 0(-+) heavy quark hybrids. An updated analysis of axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrids is presented, including the effects of the dimension-six gluon condensate. The axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are predicted to be 5.13 and 11.32 GeV, respectively. We discuss the implications of this result for the charmonium-like 'XYZ' states and the charmonium hybrid multiplet structure observed in recent lattice calculations.

Abstract:We investigate the different decompositions of the angular momentum in QCD for a relativistic spin $1/2$ composite state, namely a quark dressed with a gluon. We use light-front Hamiltonian perturbation theory, and in the light-front gauge, use the two-component framework by eliminating the constrained degrees of freedom. We also investigate the different decompositions of the angular momentum at the level of two-dimensional densities in the front form, including the effect of the so-called potential term. In this work, we consider the contribution coming from the quark part of the energy-momentum tensor. We contrast the different decompositions and also compare with other calculations in the literature. We also present the gravitational form factor related to the antisymmetric part of the energy-momentum tensor.

Spin-orbital Structure of the Nucleon Magnetic Moment

Abstract:How the nucleon magnetic moment originates from the quark spin and orbital motions is an important issue of the nucleon structure. The Gordon decomposition separates the quark vector current and magnetic moment into a spin and an orbital parts. We show that the spin part is related to the quark tensor charge, thus can be determined experimentally and computed reliably by lattice QCD. Knowledge of the spin-orbital structure of the nucleon magnetic moment would also shed light on the nucleon spin problem. As an example, we show that the spin part of the nucleon strangeness magnetic moment mu(s) is negative. If the experimental result of a positive mu(s) is confirmed, then the orbital motion of strange quarks must be important in the nucleon.
Nucleon Spin Sum Rules and Spin Polarizabilities at low $Q^2$

Abstract:We report on recently published experimental studies on spin sum rules, namely the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn, Bjorken, Burkhardt-Cottingham, Schwinger, and generalized spin polarizability sum rules. The data were taken at Jefferson Lab in Halls A and B by experiments E97-110 and EG4, respectively. They covered the very low $Q^2$ domain, down to $Q^2$$\simeq$0.02 GeV$^2$, where Chiral Effective Field Theory ($\chi$EFT) predictions should be valid. While some of the obervables agree with the state-of-the-art $\chi$EFT predictions, others are in tensions, including the Longitudinal-Transverse interference polarizability $\delta_{\rm LT}^n(Q^2)$ for which $\chi$EFT prediction was expected to be robust. This suggests that $\chi$EFT does not yet consistently describes nucleon spin observables, even in the very low $Q^2$ domain covered by the experiments.

Abstract:The proton spin puzzle has inspired a vast programme of experiments and theoretical work challenging our understanding of QCD and its role in the structure of hadrons.The proton's internal spin structure is connected to chiral symmetry and, through gluon degrees of freedom in the flavour singlet channel, to the physics of the $\eta'$ meson. Why do quarks contribute just about one third of the proton's spin? Why are $\eta'$ mesons and their interactions so sensitive to gluonic degrees of freedom? We review the status of these topics and some key observables for forthcoming experiments.

THE PROTON SPIN STRUCTURE IN A LIGHT-CONE QUARK-SPECTATOR-DIQUARK MODELa

Abstract:It is shown that the proton spin problem raised by the Ellis-Jae sum rule violation does not in conflict with the SU(6) quark model, provided that the relativistic eect from the quark transversal motions, the flavor asymmetry between the u and d valence quarks, and the intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs generated by the non- perturbative meson-baryon fluctuations of the nucleon sea are taken into account. The meson-baryon fluctuations of the nucleon sea provide a consistent picture for connecting the proton spin structure with a number of other anomalies observed in the proton's structure, such as the flavor asymmetry of the nucleon sea implied by the violation of the Gottfried sum rule and the discrepancy between two dierent measurements of the strange quark distributions in the nucleon sea. 1 The Proton Spin Puzzle and the Wigner Rotation 1.1 The Violation of the Ellis-Jae Sum Rule and the Proton Spin \Crisis" Parton sum rules and similar relations played important roles in the estab- lishment of the quark-parton picture for nucleons in deep inelastic scattering. Thus any violation of a parton sum rule may of essential importance to reveal possible new content concerning our understanding of the underlying quark- gluon structure of hadrons. Form the SU(6) quark model one would expect that the spin of the proton is fully provided by the valence quark spins. Therefore the observation of the Ellis-Jae sum rule violation received attention by its implication that the sum of the quark helicities is much smaller than the proton helicity. The EMC result of a much smaller integrated spin-dependent structure function data than that expected from the Ellis-Jae sum rule triggered the proton \spin crisis", i.e., the intriguing question of how the spin of the proton is distributed among its quark spin, gluon spin and orbital angular momentum. It is commonly taken for granted that the EMC result implies that there must be some contribution due to gluon polarization or orbital angular momentum to the proton spin. For example, in the gluonic and the strange sea explanations of the EJSR breaking, the proton spin carried by the spin of quarks was estimated to be of about 70%

Abstract:We perform an analysis of the quark angular momentum in a light-cone representation by taking into account the effect due to the Melosh-Wigner rotation and find that there is a relativistic correction factor connecting the quark orbital angular momentum with the quark model spin distribution: L-q(x) = [M-L(x)]Delta q(QM)(x). The quark orbital angular momentum L-q(x) and the quark helicity distribution L-q(x) are connected to the quark model spin distribution Delta q(QM)(x) by a relation 1/2 Delta q(x) + L-q(x) = 1/2 Delta q(QM)(x), which means that one can decompose the quark model spin contribution Delta q(QM)(x) by a quark helicity term Delta q(x) plus an orbital angular momentum term L-q(x). There is also a new relation connecting the quark orbital angular momentum with the measurable quark helicity distribution and transversity distribution (delta q(x)): Delta q(x) + L-q(x) = delta q(x), from which we may have new sum rules connecting the quark orbital angular momentum with the nucleon axial and tensor charges. Near-Maximal Mixing of Scalar Gluonium and Quark Mesons: A Gaussian Sum-Rule Analysis

Abstract:Gaussian QCD sum-rules are ideally suited to the study of mixed states of gluonium (glueballs) and quark ($q\bar q$) mesons because of their capability to resolve widely-separated states of comparable strength. The analysis of the Gaussian QCD sum-rules (GSRs) for all possible two-point correlation functions of gluonic and non-strange ($I=0$) quark scalar ($J^{PC}=0^{++}$) currents is discussed. For the non-diagonal sum-rule of gluonic and $q\bar q$ currents we show that perturbative and gluon condensate contributions are chirally suppressed compared to non-perturbative effects of the quark condensate, mixed condensate, and instantons, implying that the mixing of quark mesons and gluonium is of non-perturbative origin. The independent predictions of the masses and relative coupling strengths from the non-diagonal and the two diagonal GSRs are remarkably consistent with a scenario of two states with masses of approximately 1 GeV and 1.4 GeV that couple to significant mixtures of quark and gluonic currents. The mixing is nearly maximal with the heavier mixed state having a slightly larger coupling to gluonic currents than the lighter state.

Abstract:We study two- and three-gluon glueballs of $C=+$ using the method of QCD sum rules. We systematically construct their interpolating currents, and find that all the spin-1 currents of $C=+$ vanish. This suggests that the ground-state spin-1 glueballs of $C=+$ do not exist within the relativistic framework. We calculate masses of the two-gluon glueballs with $J^{PC} = 0^{\pm+}/2^{\pm+}$ and the three-gluon glueballs with $J^{PC} = 0^{\pm+}/2^{\pm+}$. We propose to search for the $J^{PC} = 0^{-+}/2^{-\pm}/3^{\pm-}$ three-gluon glueballs in their three-meson decay channels in future BESIII, GlueX, LHC, and PANDA experiments.

Abstract:We consider the vector and the pseudovector glueball in the top-down holographic model of large-$N_c$ QCD of Witten and their decays into ordinary mesons described by the D8 brane construction due to Sakai and Sugimoto. At leading order, the relevant interactions are determined exclusively by the Chern-Simons action of the D8 branes and are thus rigidly connected to the chiral anomaly and the Wess-Zumino-Witten terms. As found in a previous study of the pseudovector glueball, which we revisit and complete, the resulting decay widths are surprisingly large, implying that both the pseudovector and the vector glueball are very broad resonances, with a conspicuous dominance of decays into $a_1\rho$ and $K_1(1400) K^*$ in the case of the vector glueball. We also obtain a certain weak mixing of vector glueballs with ordinary vector mesons, but we conclude that it does not provide an explanation for the so-called $\rho\pi$ puzzle in charmonium decays.

Abstract:We investigate the interaction of strong color fields in the glasma stage of high-energy nuclear collisions with the spins of quarks and antiquarks. We employ the perturbative solution of the quantum kinetic theory for the spin transport of (massive) quarks in a background color field governed by the linearized Yang-Mills equation and derive expressions for the quark-spin polarization and quark-antiquark spin correlation at small momentum in terms of field correlators. For the Golec-Biernat–Wusthoff dipole distribution the quark-spin polarization vanishes, but the out-of-plane spin correlation of quarks and antiquarks is nonzero. Our order-of-magnitude estimate of the correlation far exceeds that caused by vorticity effects, but does not fully explain the data for vector meson alignment.
