Abstract:We study the $\bar\partial$ equation subject to various boundary value conditions on bounded simply connected Lipschitz domains $D\subset\mathbb C$: for the Dirichlet problem with datum in $L^p(bD, \sigma)$, this is simply a restatement of the fact that members of the holomorphic Hardy spaces are uniquely and completely determined by their boundary values. Here we identify the maximal data spaces and obtain estimates in the maximal $p$-range for the Dirichlet, Regularity-for-Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin boundary conditions for $\bar\partial$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the boundary value problem of the classical semilinear parabolic equations $$ u_t-\Delta u=|u|^{p-1}u, \ \ in \ \ \Omega\times (0,T) $$ and $u=0$ on the boundary $\partial\Omega\times [0,T)$ and $u=\phi$ at $t=0$, where $\Omega\subset R^n$ is a compact $C^1$ domain, $1<p\leq p_S$ is a fixed constant, and $\phi\in C^2_0(\Omega)$ is a given smooth function. Introducing new idea, we show that there are two sets $\tilde{W}$ and $\tilde{Z}$ such that for $\phi\in W$, there is a global positive solution $u(t)\in \tilde{W}$ with $h^1$ omega limit $\{0\}$ and for $\phi\in \tilde{Z}$, the solution blows up at finite time.

Abstract:Dirac-harmonic maps are critical points of an action functional that is motivated from the nonlinear σ-model of quantum field theory. They couple a harmonic map like field with a nonlinear spinor field. In this article, we shall discuss the latest progress on heat flow approaches for the existence of Dirac-harmonic maps under appropriate boundary conditions. Also, we discuss the refined blow-up analysis for two types of approximating Dirac-harmonic maps arising from those heat flow approaches.

Abstract:We investigate the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary value problems for the Laplace-Beltrami equation on a smooth hypersurface $\mathcal{C}$ with the smooth boundary in non-classical setting in the Bessel potential spaces $\mathbb{H}^1_p(\mathcal{C})$ for $1<p<\infty$. To the initial BVP we apply quasilocalization and obtain model BVPs for the Laplacian. The model mixed BVP on the half plane is investigated by potential method and is reduced to an equivalent system of Mellin convolution equations in Bessel potential and Besov spaces. The symbol of the obtained system is written explicitly, which provides Fredholm properties and the index of the system. The unique solvability criteria for the initial mixed BVP in the non-classical setting is derived.

Abstract:In this paper we study the inverse boundary value problem of determining the potential in the Schrödinger equation from the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map, which is commonly accepted as an ill-posed problem in the sense that, under general settings, the optimal stability estimate is of logarithmic type. In this work, a Lipschitz type stability is established assuming a priori that the potential is piecewise constant with a bounded known number of unknown values.

Abstract:Let (Sigma, g) be a compact Riemann surface with smooth boundary partial derivative Sigma, Delta(g) be the Laplace-Beltrami operator, and h be a positive smooth function. Using a min-max scheme introduced by Djadli and Malchiodi (2008) and Djadli (2008), we prove that if Sigma is non-contractible, then for any rho is an element of (8k pi,8(k + 1)pi) with k is an element of N*, the mean field equation {Delta(g)u = rho he(u)/integral(Sigma)he(u)dv(g) in Sigma, u = 0 on partial derivative Sigma has a solution. This generalizes earlier existence results of Ding et al. (Ann Inst H Poincare Anal Non Lineaire, 1999) and Chen and Lin (2003) in the Euclidean domain. Also we consider the corresponding Neumann boundary value problem. If h is a positive smooth function, then for any p is an element of (4k pi, 4(k + 1)pi) with k is an element of N*, the mean field equation {Delta(g)u = rho he(u)/integral(Sigma)he(u)dv(g) - 1/vertical bar Sigma vertical bar in Sigma, partial derivative u/partial derivative v = 0 on partial derivative Sigma has a solution, where v denotes the unit normal outward vector on partial derivative Sigma. Note that in this case we do not require the surface to be non-contractible.

Abstract:Several important problems in partial differential equations can be formulated as integral equations. Often the integral operator defines the solution of an elliptic problem with specified jump conditions at an interface. In principle the integral equation can be solved by replacing the integral operator with a finite difference calculation on a regular grid. A practical method of this type has been developed by the second author. In this paper we prove the validity of a simplified version of this method for the Dirichlet problem in a general domain in $R^2$ or $R^3$. Given a boundary value, we solve for a discrete version of the density of the double layer potential using a low order interface method. It produces the Shortley-Weller solution for the unknown harmonic function with accuracy $O(h^2)$. We prove the unique solvability for the density, with bounds in norms based on the energy or Dirichlet norm, using techniques which mimic those of exact potentials. The analysis reveals that this crude method maintains much of the mathematical structure of the classical integral equation. Examples are included.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the pointwise boundary Lipschitz regularity of solutions for the semilinear elliptic equations in divergence form mainly under some weaker assumptions on nonhomogeneous term and the boundary. If the domain satisfies C-1,C-Dini condition at a boundary point, and the nonhomogeneous term satisfies Dini continuity condition and Lipschitz Newtonian potential condition, then the solution is Lipschitz continuous at this point. Furthermore, we generalize this result to Reifenberg C-1,C-Dini domains.

Abstract:We develop a new approach to the invertibility of the layer potentials on $L^p$ associated with elliptic equations and systems in Lipschitz domains. As a consequence, for $n\ge 4$ and $(2(n-1)/(n+1))-\epsilon<p<2$, we obtain the solvability of the L^p Neumann type boundary value problems for second order elliptic systems. The analogous results for the biharmonic equation are also established.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the existence of least energy solutions for the following biharmonic equations: Δ^2 u+(λ V(x)-δ)u=|u|^p-2u in ℝ^N where N≥ 5, 20 is a parameter, V(x) is a nonnegative potential function with nonempty zero sets V^-1(0), 0<δ<μ_0 and μ_0 is the principle eigenvalue of Δ^2 in the zero sets V^-1(0) of V(x). Here V^-1(0) denotes the interior part of the set V^-1(0):={x∈ℝ^N: V(x)=0}. We prove that the above equation admits a least energy solution which is trapped near the zero sets V^-1(0) for λ>0 large.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the $L^p$ regularity, $L^p$ Neumann and $W^{1,p}$ problems for generalized Schrödinger operator $-\text{div}(A\nabla )+ V $ in the region above a Lipschitz graph under the assumption that $A$ is elliptic, symmetric and $x_d-$independent. Specifically, we prove that the $L^p$ regularity problem is uniquely solvable for $$1<p<2+\varepsilon.$$ Moreover, we also establish the $W^{1,p}$ estimate for Neumann problem for $$\frac{3}{2}-\varepsilon<p<3+\varepsilon.$$ As a by-product, we also obtain that the $L^p$ Neumann problem is uniquely solvable for $1<p<2+\varepsilon.$ The only previously known estimates of this type pertain to the classical Schrödinger equation $-\Delta u+ Vu=0$ in $\Omega$ and $\frac{\partial u}{\partial n}=g$ on $\partial\Omega$ which was obtained by Shen [Z. Shen, On the Neumann problem for Schrödinger operators in Lipschitz domains, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 43 (1994)] for ranges $1<p\leq 2$. All the ranges of $p$ are sharp.
