Abstract:It is widely recognized that the scandium addition to aluminum alloys is an effective way to improve the comprehensive properties. To the present, researchers are concentrated on Al-Mg alloys, for multicomponent Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy, the microscopic characterization of the alloy heat treatment has gained a high level of research interest. However, researches on the evolution of precipitate microstructure in controlled plastic deformation combined with the role played by Sc have received scant attention. In the present paper, a micro-alloyed Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Sc-Zr alloy was prepared by adding 0.2% scandium. Based on mastering the two-stage homogenization treatment in the early stage, the alloy was subjected to equal channel angular extrusion deformation, and subsequently the microstructure, dislocation evolution and precipitation behavior were observed. It is revealed that after second pass deformation, the grains in the deformation-prone zone are obviously shortened by 31% on average along the cross-section direction, compared with the first pass. Following two passes deformation, Al 3 (Sc, Zr), Al 3 Zr and MgZn 2Â phases are formed within grains, inhibiting grain coarsening and recrystallization during deformation. With the introduction of plastic deformation, it is analyzed that the shadow lines with different depths and stacking faults with different structures in the interior of the phase. Also, the overall proportion of the recrystallized structure and substructure of the alloy increases with the increasing deformation. In addition, after secondary deformation, the scandium rich compounds at the trigeminal grain boundary are reduced, while the zirconium rich compounds are significantly increased. Therefore, the different diffusivity of Sc/Zr elements and the combined effect of controlled thermal deformation can be considered to prepare the Al 3 Sc (Al 3 Zr) with core-shell structure in the later stage.
