Abstract:We demonstrate the weakness of the real-time holographic associative memory implementation in addressing accuracy and describe a novel method to implement associative memory with accurate addressing. In this method, the memory images and their background images are stored in two common holographic memory systems, and the partial image and its background image are simultaneously used to address the two holographic memory systems. The experimental results have proved the system feasible. In addition, we describe a method of associative memory with accurate addressing in a common real-time holographic memory system using combinatorial memory images and combinatorial addressing images.

Abstract:Using a morphological hit-miss transformation, an improved method for increasing the addressing accuracy of optical holographic associative memory was proposed. A scheme of an improved real-time holographic associative memory system is shown in the paper, which comprises a beam splitter, a photo triode, a electric amplifier, a summing circuit, a stop, an input and an output planes and a liquid crystal electro-optical switch. The associative output image using the improved system is also demonstrated.

Abstract:We present a holographic implementation of accurate associative memory with only one holographic memory system. In the implementation, the stored and test images are coded by using complementary-encoding method. The recalled complete image is also a coded image that can be decoded with a decoding mask to get an original image or its complement image. The experiment shows that the complementary encoding can efficiently increase the addressing accuracy in a simple way. Instead of the above complementary-encoding method, a scheme that uses complementary area-encoding method is also proposed for the holographic implementation of gray-level image associative memory with accurate addressing.

Abstract:A photorefractive optical processor for accurate holographic associative memory that uses a spatial-encoding method is presented. The associative memory of both binary images and gray-scale images can be performed with this processor. Our associative memory system performs the functions of phase distortion correction, edge-enhancement of stored images and hetero-associative memory. Abstract:This paper introduced an approach which can accurately address in the volume holographic storage system and use Moire fringe to detect the position of linear translation stage in angle-multiple-xing volume storage system. This approach effectively decreased the system error of addressing and greatly improved the access veracity of the volume holographic storage system. As many as 300 holo-grams were stored in the Fe ! LiNbo3 crystal and the images were reconstructed with equal diffraction efficiency.

Abstract:In this paper, a multi-channel associative memory instrumentation prototype was presented, which was divided into two parts spatially. The lower part is a one-channel system using diode-pumped solid-state laser for demonstrating the holographic associative memory miniaturization, while the upper one is a four-channel system for proving the parallel processing architecture. Abstract:A novel system for associative memory is proposed and constructed in this paper. It is based on the theory of wavelet matched filtering and the associative characteristic of volume holographic storage in a photorefractive crystal. A primary image can be remembered and recovered from its deformed form or main features with the system. The photorefractive crystal in the system stands for both the cell of identification calculation and that of image storage. A high efficiency is obtained by a means of parallel processing in the system. performance of the system is more accurate with the introduction of wavelet transform to the system, which is testified by the comparison between a conventional system and the novel system. Its application in fast query of human face from a face database is studied. The given experimental results are promising.

Abstract:We demonstrate a new method to implement holographic associative memory based on a coherently induced double phase conjugate mirror that has phase-conjugate reflectivity larger than unity for weak reference signal over a large range of pumping-reference intensity ratio. The phase conjugator, operated with a copper-doped KNSBN crystal, serves as a novel nonlinear feedback and gain element for the associative memory system. A vanadium-doped KNSBN crystal as storage medium improves the response speed of the holographic recording process. A stored image has been completely retrieved when a partial input addresses the associative memory system.

Abstract:In the process to output data in pixel-matched volume holographic systems,the critical factor is to ensure that the high fidelity and low Bit-Error-Rate of the retrieved page.A novel method named magnification compensation algorism was proposed,which was a post-processing to compensate for pixel shifts produced by magnification error.Furthermore,this method is demonstrated by quantitative analysis and numerical experiments,whose results show a high feasibility and significant improvement in the read out system.

Abstract:Holographic data storage is expected to realize capacity of terabytes as well as fast data-transfer rate of Gbits/sec on a disk format. This kind of performance will be a potential solution for next-generation storage of big data in diversities of applications such as cloud servers and ultra-high definition systems. In this work, we analyze and optimize the axial response of the holographic data storage, aiming at maximizing storage density while suppressing the inter-page crosstalk on the reconstructed data pages. The optical model of the three dimensional hologram recorded in the medium is presented. Based on the reconstructed data page model, inter-layer crosstalk is also analyzed by use of orthogonal reference patterns. The signal to noise ratio and bit error rate of the reconstructed data page are improved. Experiments are conducted to obtain the axial shift selectivity curves and verify the predicted storage density and capacity of a holographic optical disk.

Abstract:We describe a digital holographic storage system for the study on data storage format. Holograms are recorded, with combined angle and spatial multiplexing in LiNbO3: Fe by use of the 90degrees geomety, and reconstructions are detected with a 40-frame/s CCD camera. The data storage format and addressing method that take advantage of the unique characteristics of our volume holographic memory are discussed.

Abstract:An experimental approach to establish a single channel holographic associative memory with bipolar neural states and bipolar interconnections is presented. The optical implementation of bipolar interconnections is fulfilled by biasing the interconnection weights and dynamically thresholding the output estimate. To give the optical neurons bipolar features, a proper distributed offset is added to the output. A holographic associative memory was established. To record the memory hologram, a pair of transparencies are prepared for each of the stored patterns. Each transparency bears an additional transparent part whose aperture size is determined by the difference of transparent and opaque parts of the corresponding stored pattern. Numerical simulations show that its performance is in perfect coincidence with an ideal bipolar memory. Preliminary experimental results are also shown.

Abstract:A two-dimensional orthogonal model of optical associative memory for storage of nonnegative patterns using a single hologram is presented. Two sets of patterns after prior orthogonal processing are composed and used for hologram recording, which permits the sequential holographic recordings to be carried on spatially separated regions of the recording material. High diffraction efficiency of the hologram is achieved. Computer simulations and optical demonstrations are also given.

Abstract:We introduce a two-dimensional interleaving method to improve the output accuracy of volume holographic correlators. The method redistributes the pattern of every input and stored image without changing their inner products, so it can eliminate the impact of correlation pattern difference on calculated inner product values. Experimental tests show that this method can achieve more accurate output intensity for every channel, which agrees much better with the theoretical value than without this method.
