Abstract:From the 1-BuOH-soluble fraction of a MeOH extract of leaves of Schefflera arboricola, collected in Okinawa, six new lupane glucosides, named schefflerins A-F (1-6) and one new dammarane glucoside, named schefflerin G (7), were isolated together with three known compounds, citroside A (8), and oleanane saponins, oleanolic acid (9) and echinocystic acid (10) 3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1 -> 4')-O-beta-D-glucuronopynosides. Their structures were elucidated through a combination of spectroscopic analyses and the structure of schefflerin F (6) was determined by X-ray crystallographic method using SPring-8 synchrotron radiation.

Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation on the stem bark of Schefflera heptaphylla led to the isolation of five new ursane-type triterpenoid saponins (1-5). Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical methods. It is noteworthy in this study that the genins of all compounds are reported for the first time. All compounds isolated from this plant were evaluated for their inhibitory activities on lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in RAW264.7 cells, and compounds 2 and 5 showed weak anti-inflammatory activities under their non-cytotoxic concentrations.

Abstract:Six new sesquiterpene lactones, scorzoaustriacoside (1), scorzoaustriacin (2), scorzoaustriacin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside (3), 4-epi-dihydroestafiatol (4), 14-isovaleroxyscorzoaustricin (5). and 14-isovaleroxyscorzoaustricin sulfate (6), along with five known guaianolides, were isolated front all acetone extract of the roots of Scorzonera austriaca. The structures of the new compounds Were elucidated mainly by interpretation of their 1D and 2D NMR and FIRMS data. Several isolates obtained in this investigation were evaluated against a Small panel of cancer cell lines.

Abstract:Ten new triterpenoids, schiglausins A-J (1-10), as well as four known compounds, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra glaucescens. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods, including extensive NMR spectra and CD experiment. Compound 8 was determined to be a norlanostane triterpenoid. The crystal structure of compound 1 has been determined using single-crystal X-ray analysis while its absolute configuration was assigned on the basis of the CD spectrum. All isolates were tested for their FXR agonistic and antagonistic effects.

Abstract:Five new triterpenoid monodesmosides (sinocrassulosides I-V, 1-5) and six bisdesmosides (sinocrassulosides VI-XI, 6-11), in which 2-11 possess different acyl groups in the glycosidic moieties, were isolated from the roots of Sinocrassula asclepiadea FRANCH. Sinocrassulosides VI (4) and V (5) also contained a novel A-seco aglycone in their structures. All of the structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic and physicochemical evidence.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:Four new compounds, 9 alpha-hydroxy-1 beta-methoxycaryolanol (1), stigmast-5-ene-7 alpha,22 alpha-diol-3 beta-tetradecanoate (2), 7-O-(6'-acetoxy-beta-D-glucopyranosyl)coumarin (3), and 8-O-(6'-acetoxy-beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-7-hydroxycoumarin (4), together with ten known compounds. were isolated from the aerial parts of Sinacalia tangutica. The structures of the new compounds were established by means of extensive spectroscopic analyses (1D- and 2D-NMR, EI-MS, HR-ESI-MS, as well as IR and UV) and by comparison of their spectroscopic data with those of structurally related compounds reported in the literature.

Abstract:A new flavonoid glycoside, 5-methoxy-7-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-( - )-afzelechin (1), together with seven known flavonoids, 7-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-( - )-epiafzelechin (2), sakuranin (3), genkwanin (4), 4 ',5-dihydroxy- 3 ',7-dimethoxyflavone (5), luteolin-3 ',7-dimethyl ether-5-beta-D-glucoside (6), and luteolin-7-methyl ether-5-beta-D-glucoside (7), were isolated from the stem barks of Daphne giraldii. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 2, 3, and 5-8 were first reported from the titled plant.

Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 2-8 and 11-13 were first isolated from Rutaceae and the others were isolated for the first time from Z. armatum.

Abstract:Dryopteris fragrans (L.) schott is a deciduous perennial herb in the genus Dryopteris , used to treat all kinds of skin diseases and arthritis as a folk remedy of Northeast Chinese. A new glycoside was isolated from the aerial parts of Dryopteris fragrans . The structure was elucidated as 6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3-ethyl-7-hydroxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one.on the basis of spectroscopic methods and named fragranoside F.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the whole plants of Salvia scapiformis Hance afforded eight compounds, including one new lignan, (+)-8α-hydroxypinoresinol-8-O-[6′′-O-(4′′′-hydroxybenzoyl)]-β-d-glucopyranoside (1), four known lignans, (+)-8α-hydroxy-pinoresinol-8-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (2), (+)-8α-hydroxypinoresinol (3), (+)-pinoresinol (4), and (+)-medioresinol (5), and three known triterpenoids, ursolic acid (6), 4-epi-niga-ichigoside F1 (7), and niga-ichigoside F1 (8). Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses and comparison with spectroscopic data in the literature. The absolute configuration of the new compound 1 was determined by chemical transformation and GC analysis.
