Abstract:Enantioselective addition of diethylzinc (ZnEt2) to a series of aromatic aldehydes was promoted using a modular prolinol chiral ligand, 2-(S)-2-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)pyrrolidin-1-yl)methyl)-4-nitrophenol (1a), without using titanium complex. The catalytic system employing 15 mol% of 1a was found to promote the addition of diethylzinc to a wide range of aromatic aldehydes with electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, giving up to 86% ee of the corresponding secondary alcohol under mild conditions.

Abstract:Enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to a series of aromatic aldehydes was developed by chiral ligand (S)-N-(4-methoxyphenethyl)-3-Phenyl-2-(tosylamino)propanamide (1d), which was derivatived from a modular amino acids and long chain amine containg OMe. The catalytic system employing 15 mol% of 1d without using titanium complex was found to promote the addition of diethylzinc (ZnEt2) to a wide range of aromatic aldehydes with electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, giving up to 87% ee of the corresponding secondary alcohol under mild conditions.

Abstract:A series of chiral ligands 2a–d were conveniently prepared from β-amino alcohols through a two-step sequence and applied to catalysis of enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to benzaldehyde. Among them ligand 2c was found to show the best asymmetric induction for the reaction and catalyze the addition to various aromatic aldehydes to provide (R)-secondary alcohols in up to 98.3% ee.

Abstract:A series of bifunctional Spiro ligands bearing "carboxamide-phosphine oxide" groups and ethylzinc carboxamidates from these ligands as catalysts for Et2Zn additions to aldehydes were reported. Excellent yields were obtained with moderate ee's in Et2Zn additions to benzaldehyde derivatives, implying effectiveness of our newly designed catalytic structures as well as mediocre stereocontrol by these chiral ligands. Abstract:Four aminophenols have been prepared and evaluated as the catalysts for the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes. Ligand 1a was found to show the best asymmetric induction in the catalysis of the reaction of m-chlorobenzaldehyde to provide sec-alcohol with-high yield (95%) and moderate ee (57%).

Abstract:A new series of amino alcohols with a chiral cyclopropane backbone have been developed and used in the catalytic asymmetric diethylzinc addition and phenyl transfer to various types of aldehydes. These cyclopropane-based chiral amino alcohols show high enantioselectivity in the addition of organozincs to aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. For diethylzinc addition to aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, up to 97% ee and 93% ee are obtained, respectively. For the phenyl transfer to aromatic aldehydes, the best enantioselectivity was 89% ee.

Abstract:Three 2-{(3R,7aS)-1,1-disubstituted-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo [1,2-c] [1,3]oxazol-3-yl }phenols have been synthesized from salicylaldehyde and amino alcohols derived from L-proline, and used as ligands in enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes, the ee values of obtained secondary alcohols were found in the range of 0-90%.

Abstract:A series of novel chiral tert-amino alcohols 4a-h derived from enantiomerically pure phenylalanine were synthesized efficiently and used as chiral ligands in the catalytic enantioselective ethylation of aldehydes with diethylzinc (diethylzinc-to-aldehyde addition). The use of 10 mol % of the amino alcohols led to the corresponding sec-alcohols with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 100% ee) and high yields.

Abstract:A series of pyrrolidine derivatives with β-amino alcohol moieties prepared from (S)-proline were found to catalyze the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes to yield optically active secondary alcohols with high enantioselectivities. A mechanism accounting for the configurational change with the bulkiness of chiral ligands is proposed.
