Abstract:Enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to a series of aromatic aldehydes was developed by chiral ligand (S)-N-(4-methoxyphenethyl)-3-Phenyl-2-(tosylamino)propanamide (1d), which was derivatived from a modular amino acids and long chain amine containg OMe. The catalytic system employing 15 mol% of 1d without using titanium complex was found to promote the addition of diethylzinc (ZnEt2) to a wide range of aromatic aldehydes with electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, giving up to 87% ee of the corresponding secondary alcohol under mild conditions.

Abstract:New amino acid-based modular chiral ligands were readily synthesized and used to catalyze the asymmetric conjugate addition of Et(2) Zn to various cyclic enones in the presence of a variety of copper sources. Moderately high ee of up to 72% were obtained using ligand (S)-1e under mild conditions.

Abstract:A series of chiral ligands 2a–d were conveniently prepared from β-amino alcohols through a two-step sequence and applied to catalysis of enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to benzaldehyde. Among them ligand 2c was found to show the best asymmetric induction for the reaction and catalyze the addition to various aromatic aldehydes to provide (R)-secondary alcohols in up to 98.3% ee.

Abstract:A novel procedure for selective direct N,N-alkylation of the chiral Betti base was developed, and a new family of chiral ligands, (S)-1-(α-cycloaminobenzyl)-2-naphthols, were prepared. The ligands with five- and six-membered cyclic amines showed highly efficient asymmetric induction in the addition of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes in 93–96% yields and 91–99% ee.

Abstract:A series of chiral C2-symmetric bis(β-hydroxy amide) ligands was synthesized via the reaction of isophthaloyl dichloride and amino alcohols derived from l-amino acid. The titanium(IV) complex of C2-symmetric chiral ligand 3b was effective for the asymmetric alkynylation of aldehydes and the propargyl alcohols were obtained in high yields (up to 94%) and high enantiomeric excesses (up to 98%) under optimized conditions. The results obtained using ligand 3h support that the two β-hydroxy amide moieties in these ligands behave as two independent ligands in the catalytic system.

N-monosubstituted amino alcohols, on average, gave slightly higher enantioselectivities than their N,N-disubstituted analogues. These results imply that the restricted and rigid structure of amino alcohol is not the absolute requirement for the highly enantioselective dialkylzinc addition to diphenylphosphinoylimines. Abstract:A series of non-azacyclo beta-aminoalcohols derived from natural L-phenylalanine were readily synthesized in three steps. They were used as chiral ligands in the catalytic asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes. The results showed that ligands with diethyl or dipropyl substituents on the carbinol carbons of the aminoalcohols favored higher enantioselectivities, and ligands with N,N-dimethyl groups gave better asymmetric induction than other NN-dialkyl substituted ligands. Compound 5b was the most optimal ligand among these aminoalcohols, allowing to obtain a 96% ee. The results showed that high en antioselection should be determined by the subtle combination of the carbinol parts and amino parts of the aminoalcohols. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Nine C-2-symmetric chiral disulfonamides were designed and synthesized from L-valine, L-phenylalanine and L-leucine respectively via one-pot ring opening of aziridines. The application of these disulfonamides as catalyst in the addition of diethyl zinc to benzaldehyde in three reagent systems: Ligand-Ti((OPr)-Pr-i)(4)-Et2Zn; Ligand-Ti((OPr)-Pr-i)(4)-H2O-Et2Zn; Ligand-Et2Zn was also described.
