Abstract:The one-pot synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted coumarins from substituted 2-(hydroxymethyl)phenols with beta-keto esters catalyzed by Mn3O4 nanoparticles was developed. A series of 3,4-disubstituted coumarin derivatives were obtained in good yields.

Abstract:A one-pot two-step reaction of 4-aminocoumarin with arylglyoxal monohydrates and p-toluenesulfonates has been developed, which offers 3-alkoxy-substituted chromeno[4,3-b]pyrrol-4(1H)-ones in moderate to good yields. At first, arylglyoxal monohydrates and 4-aminocoumarin were converted into 3-hydroxychromeno[4,3-b]pyrrol-4(1H)-one intermediates in AcOH under reflux. Then the title compounds in an in situ reaction of the intermediates with p-toluenesulfonates catalyzed by DBU in refluxing toluene were obtained.

Abstract:A series of coumarins were synthesized via the reaction of salicylic aldehydes with β-keto esters catalyzed by lanthanide bis [(trifluoromethyl) sulfonyl] imides at room temperature under solvent-free conditions. This method has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, simple operations and high yields. All products were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and MS.

Abstract:A facile approach has been developed for the synthesis of dihydrocoumarin derivatives through the reaction of phenols and cinnamoyl chloride in the presence of ecofriendly solid-acid catalyst montmorillonite K-10 via a tandem esterification-Friedel-Crafts alkylation process under microwave irradiation. The catalyst could be easily recovered and recycled.

Abstract:The Er(OTf) 3 -catalyzed cascade cyclization reaction of para -quinone methides ( p -QMs) with various 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed, which efficiently constructed a series of versatile 4-aryl-3,4-dihydrocoumarins and 4-aryl-4 H -chromenes. Herein, we not only propose a novel cyclization strategy of p -QMs, but also provide an easy access to structurally diverse coumarins and chromenes.

Abstract:An efficient strategy for the synthesis of a variety of 3-substituted isocoumarins has been developed. The reaction proceeded from o-halobenzoic acids and 1,3-diketones via a copper(I)-catalyzed domino reaction in DMF under the action of K(3)PO(4) at 90-120 °C without a ligand to afford the corresponding 3-substituted isocoumarin derivatives in good to excellent yields. o-Halobenzoic acids could be o-iodobenzoic acid, o-bromobenzoic acid, and o-chlorobenzoic acid derivatives. 1,3-Diketones could be alkyl- and aryl-substituted 1,3-diketones.

Abstract:Sulfocoumarins are key structural motifs in several bioactive molecules. Herein, we describe a simple, one-pot procedure for the synthesis of structurally diverse sulfonocoumarin-3-carboxylates by heating 2-hydroxyaryl aldehydes with an active sulfonyl chloride in the presence of pyridine. The process tolerates numerous functional groups including alkoxy, alkyl, halogen, nitro, and even nucleophilic phenolic hydroxy. Additionally, reactions of 2-hydroxyaryl ketones and 2-methylaminoaryl aldehydes give 4-substituted sulfocoumarins and 1-aza-2-sulfocoumarins, respectively. A gram-scale synthesis and further derivatizations are also reported. The ester group is easily removed via Happer’s decarboxylation.

Abstract:4-Hydroxycoumarins are among the most versatile heterocyclic scaffolds, and they are extensively used in the synthesis of a wide range of chemical molecules. Because of their biological and pharmacological effects, 4-hydroxycoumarin-based compounds are important among heterocyclic structures. In this study, a new method is developed to synthesize 4-hydroxycoumarins using a phosphoric anhydride and trifluromethanesulfonic acid (P 4 O 10 /TfOH) reagent system without the employment of either a catalyst or solvent. The direct condensation of phenols with malonic acid at ambient conditions provided 4-hydroxycoumrins in 85–90% yield. In medicinal chemistry, the 4-hydroxycoumarin motif is often used to make new hybrid heterocyclic scaffolds that can be used to find new molecules. The method was then successfully extended to synthesize hybrids of 4-hydroxycoumarin, such as biscoumarylphenylmethane, dioxinocoumarin, and tetracoumarylpehylenebismethane, in a one-pot method from phenol, avoiding the intermediate step of isolating and purifying 4-hydroxycoumarin.

Abstract:Coumarins 3‐aldehyde were synthesized under mild conditions with 3‐phenylpropiolates and 1,3‐dioxolane via tandem visible light‐catalyzed cascade radical cyclization and acidic hydrolysis process in one pot. New synthetic method of coumarins 3‐aldehyde via visible light stimulation and oxidation promotion cascade radical cyclization/hydrolysis process is reported. this reaction involves a two‐step procedure, the 1,3‐dioxolane radical is initiated in situ from 1,3‐dioxolane via the excited Ru(bpy)3Cl2 and oxidant TBHP, subsequently an addition to triple bond of various alkynes produces vinyl radicals, the radical intermediates can smoothly convert to coumarin 3‐aldehyde via tandem cyclization/acidic hydrolysis process in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, the synthetic application valuable of coumarin 3‐aldehyde is also evaluated in this work.
