Abstract:Compounds incorporating benzopyrone structural units are reported to possess a wide range of biological activities I. Coumarin nucleus is the basis of various compounds possessing anticoagulant activity. Plant extracts and synthetic products containing this skeleton have been used as anricoagulants'. The 3substituted coumarin derivatives have been reported to exhibit antibacterial and antifungal activities'. These led us to synthesise some new coumarin derivatives of possible biological activities and to continue our interest in benzopyran chemistry't' and their biological activitiesi, Of our synthetic interest, a series of coumarin containing a,~-unsaturated ketoximes are needed as important intermediates.
