Abstract:A simple and direct synthesis of 2-aminoimidazoles from vinyl azides and cyanamide was developed. An attractive feature of this protocol is that the desired products are generated in a highly efficient and eco-friendly manner without the use of a catalyst. A plausible mechanism has been proposed.

Abstract:A method for the synthesis of amide-containing molecules was developed using vinyl azides as an enamine-type nucleophile towards carbon electrophiles, such as imines, aldehydes, and carbocations that were generated from alcohols in the presence of BF3OEt2. After nucleophilic attack of the vinyl azide, a substituent of the resulting iminodiazonium ion intermediate migrates to form a nitrilium ion, which is hydrolyzed to afford the corresponding amide.

Abstract:An interesting approach to functionalized imidazolidines is described. These compounds are obtained in a copper(I)-catalyzed domino three-component coupling and cyclization reaction involving two formaldehyde-derived imine units and a terminal alkyne. Alternatively, imidazolidines can be obtained from propargylamines and formaldehyde-derived imines. This strategy provides a straightforward and atom-economic pathway to construct imidazolidines with high yields and benefits from readily available starting materials, convenient one-pot operations.

Abstract:A facile method for the synthesis of tetrahydropyrimidines is described. Diethylamine was treated with methyl propiolate to provide Michael adduct (beta-amino acrylate). In the presence of organic acid, the cyclization between imines with beta-aminoacrylateoccurred at room temperature and completed within several minutes to give tetrahydropyrimidines with liberation of ammonium salt. Formaldimines show good toleration to the reaction.

Abstract:In the presence of KI and (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (PIDA), primary amines bearing an alpha-hydrogen can be efficiently converted to fluoroalkylated imidazoles by reacting with fluoroalkylated alkynes and sodium azide via a cascade Michael addition/azidation/cycloamination process. KI plays a crucial role in this reaction by generating iodine(I) species to promote the cyclization. Substrate scope was explored, and the application of this protocol was demonstrated. Additionally, a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:The synthesis of α-alkyl, α’-2-azinyl amines by addition of 2-heteroaryl-based nucleophiles to alkyl substituted iminium ion is typically a challenging synthetic transformation due to mismatched reactivities and competing deprotonation adja-cent to the carbon-nitrogen double bond. Here, we report a solution to this problem through the development of a multi-component coupling process wherein a putative 2-azinyl indium nucleophile, generated in situ from the corresponding 2-iodo heteroarene and indium powder, adds to an iminium ion that is also formed directly in the reaction. This modular and operationally straightforward carbonyl azinylative amination (CAzA) displays a broad scope, does not require a tran-sition metal catalyst and only a metal reductant is needed to generate a reactive 2-azinyl nucleophile in the reaction. Beyond the addition to iminium ions, the 2-azinylation of polyfluoromethyl ketones to form the corresponding tertiary al-cohols is also disclosed. Together, the products of these reactions possess a high degree of functionality, are typically challenging to synthesize by other methods, and contain motifs recognized as privileged in the context of pharmaceuti-cals and agrochemicals.

Abstract:The polymerization of triple-bond building blocks will generate functional polymers owing to their unsaturated backbones, which facilitate the electron delocation within the main chains. Currently, the research focus in this area is the alkyne-based polymerization, and the carbon-nitrogen triple-bond based polymerization to produce stable nitrogen-containing polymers is rarely reported. In this paper, a new polymerization of diisocyanoacetate was successfully established. The silver acetate-catalyzed polymerization of diisocyanoacetate in the acetonitrile or DMF readily produced soluble polyimidazoles with high molecular weights (M-w up to 32500) in excellent yields (up to 94%) at room temperature after 2 h. Moreover, this polymerization performed in a single component fashion, which shows remarkable advantages over the traditional two- or multicomponent ones. In addition, the resultant polyimidazoles could be postfunctionalized to yield ionized polyelectrolytes and could feature the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics by incorporation of an AIE-active tetraphenylethene moiety in its polymer chains. This single component polymerization will become a powerful tool for the preparation of polyimidazoles and be potentially applicable in materials and biological fields.

Abstract:A diazo approach toward functionalized naphtho[1,2-d]imidazole derivatives has been developed. It involved a new reaction of arylamidines with 2-(α-diazoacyl)-2H-azirines giving 5-aryl-4-(α-diazoacyl)-1H-imidazoles under mild conditions in good yields.
