Abstract:Fe3O4 and Pd nanoparticles were assembled on sulfonated graphene (s-G) by an easy chemical approach and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The resulting material could be dispersed homogeneously in water or water/ethanol and further used as an excellent semi-heterogeneous catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction in an environmentally friendly solvent under ligand-free ambient conditions. The high heterogeneous catalytic activity appears to be due to the small size of Pd nanoparticles and homogeneous distribution of the nanoparticles on the Fe3O4/s-G matrix. In addition, the catalytic activity did not deteriorate even after repeated applications, which may be due to the easy and efficient magnetic separation of the catalyst and the high dispersion and stability of the catalyst in an aqueous solution.
Efficient Protocol for the Phosphine-Free Suzuki-Miyaura Reaction Catalyzed by Palladium on Carbon at Room Temperature

Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for the phosphine-free Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids has been developed which utilizes the commercially available 10% Pd/C (3.5 mol% Pd) in ethanol-water (1:1) and Na2CO3 at room temperature. The reaction is convenient, environmentally benign and generates excellent yields of the coupled products (94-100%). The catalyst can be recycled using simple filtration and washing sequences without significant decrease in the yield of coupling product up to the fourth run.

Abstract:Pd(OAc)(2) in a mixture of water and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is shown to be an extremely active catalyst for the Suzuki reaction of aryl iodides and bromides. The reaction can be conducted under mild conditions (50 degrees C) without the use of a microwave or phosphine ligand in high yields. The isolation of the products is readily performed by the extraction of diethyl ether, and the Pd(OAc)(2)-PEG can be reused without significant loss in activity.

Abstract:An efficient and recyclable Pd nano-catalyst was developed via immobilization of Pd nanoparticles on polyimide linked covalent organic frameworks (PCOFs) that was facilely prepared through condensation of melamine and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride. The Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) catalyst was thoroughly characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of Pd NPs catalyst was evaluated by Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction and nitroarene reduction in water, respectively. The excellent yields of corresponding products revealing revealed that the Pd NPs catalyst could be applied as an efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for above two reactions.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Bearing an intrinsic green nature, biopolymers are expected to serve as ideal alternatives in the sustainable conversion process. In this paper, a N-Heterocyclic carbene functionalized hydroxyethyl cellulose supported palladium catalyst (HEC-NHC-Pd) has been successfully prepared through a surface functionalization approach. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized through TEM, CP/MAS 13C NMR, and XPS analyses, etc. The new and eco-friendly catalyst was effectively employed in Suzuki reactions in ethanol aqueous solution. Dependent on dual coordination sites (OH and N-Methylimidazole) binding to the active component (Pd), the palladium complex exhibited high stability and low metal leaching (<1%). Additionally, the environmental friendliness catalyst could be retrieved through simple centrifugation within a few cycles. This study also offers a new pathway for the application of such biopolymer surface functionalization in organic transformations.

Abstract:Stable palladium (II) complexes, incorporating a double (N-benzoylthiourea) arrangement bonded to a complex heterocyclic scaffold, are used as precursors of catalytic species able to promote Suzuki–Miyaura, Mizoroki–Heck, Hiyama, Buchwald–Hartwig, Hirao and Sonogashira–Hagihara cross-coupling transformations in water. These sustainable processes are chemoselective and very versatile. The nanoparticles responsible for these catalytic reactions were analyzed and studied. Their usefulness is demonstrated after several tests and analyses. The heterogeneous character of this species in water was also confirmed.

Abstract:Nafion–Teflon bimembrane was used as an efficient support for the preparation and application of heterogeneous palladium catalysts. The supported palladium catalysts exhibit high activity and stability in the Suzuki cross-coupling of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids to afford the corresponding biaryls in good to excellent yields, and can be readily recovered and reused several times without significant loss of activity.

Abstract:Zinc oxide nanowires were synthesized and impregnated with trace amounts of palladium ions by adsorption, which was then employed as a heterogeneous catalyst in the Suzuki reaction. To obtain an in-depth understanding of the structure and properties of the ZnO nanowires and the resultant catalyst, different analysis techniques were performed. The as-synthesized catalyst demonstrated exceptional efficiency in promoting the reaction between aryl halides and arylboronic acids, enabling the achievement of biphenyl derivatives in high yields ranging between 82% and 99%. The analysis conducted using transmission electron microscopy demonstrated the formation of palladium nanoparticles during the reaction, confirming their role as the active species driving the catalytic transformation. Further investigation was carried out to examine the effect of the support on the catalytic activity of the catalyst. The results indicated that the morphology and crystallographic structure of zinc oxide had a significant impact on the catalytic activity of the prepared catalyst. The catalytic performance of PdCl2/ZnONWs, where palladium chloride immobilized on ZnO nanowires, was found to be exceptional. The catalyst demonstrated the ability to be recovered and reused up to three times without a noticeable decline in its catalytic activity. Additionally, the loading of palladium species could be reduced to 7.6 mol part per million. Abstract:Pd nanoparticles supported on humic acid-coated nanoferrites as magnetically-recoverable catalyst was expediently prepared from inexpensive precursors and characterized by techniques such as SEM, TEM, XPS, FT-IR, XRD, ICP-AES, EDX. The as made catalyst displayed an admirable catalytic activity towards the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl halides (or) aryl diazonium salts with aryl boronic acid in non-toxic solvent EtOH/water under mild conditions. The same catalyst showed high efficiency for the Heck reaction of aryl halides with styrene was carried out with high efficiency offering good yields under ligand-free conditions. Additionally, the reduction of olefins using molecular hydrogen was also achieved using the same catalyst under ambient and base-free conditions affording the products in good to excellent yields. The magnetic activity of nano-Fe3O4 allowed the effortless recovery of the catalyst and demonstrated subsequent recyclability up to 5 cycles without a significant loss in the activity.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Abstract Single-atom catalysts have emerged as a new frontier in catalysis science. However, their applications are still limited to small molecule activations in the gas phase, the classic organic transformations catalyzed by single-atom catalysts are still rare. Here, we report the use of a single-atom Pd catalyst for the classic Suzuki–Miyaura carbon–carbon coupling reaction under phosphine-free and open-air conditions at room temperature. The single-atom Pd catalyst is prepared through anchoring Pd on bimetal oxides (Pd-ZnO-ZrO 2 ). The significant synergetic effect of ZnO and ZrO 2 is observed. The catalyst exhibits high activity and tolerance of a wide scope of substrates. Characterization demonstrates that Pd single atoms are coordinated with two oxygen atoms in Pd-ZnO-ZrO 2 catalyst. The catalyst can be fabricated on a multi-gram scale using a simple in situ co-precipitation method, which endows this catalytic system with great potential in practical applications.

Abstract:Well dispersed Pd nanoparticles supported on amino functionalized metal-organic frameworks MIL-53(Al)-NH2 (Al(OH)[H2N-BDC], H2N-BDC=2-aminoterephthalic acid, MIL=Materials of Institut Lavoisier) were prepared using a direct anionic exchange approach and subsequent reduction with NaBH4. Abstract:Supported palladium catalysts have garnered much interest in the modern chemical industry due to their high catalytic activity and excellent recyclability. Carbon nanofibers are outstanding supports for palladium species because of their large surface areas and chemically inert properties. Herein, with poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as the co-spinning agent, palladium cation embedded polyimide nanofibers were first prepared by electrospinning and thermal imidization. Then, these composite nanofibers were carbonized to prepare palladium embedded nitrogen doped carbon nanofibers. It was found that raising the carbonization temperature could reduce the fiber diameter and increase the size of micropores in the fiber. Meanwhile, the Pd2+ cations in the nanofibers were reduced to Pd0 nanoparticles and their sizes grew with the increase of carbonization temperature. The palladium nanoparticles were partially or totally embedded inside the carbon nanofibers. Suzuki reaction catalysis results show that these palladium embedded carbon nanofibers could effectively catalyze the Suzuki reactions of aromatic iodides and bromides with phenylboronic acid to afford the biaryl products with excellent yields. Moreover, this fibrous catalyst can be readily recovered by filtration and reused for 5 times with little loss of initial activity. The remarkable catalytic efficiency and stability of this novel palladium embedded carbon nanofibers could be attributed to the embedment of palladium nanoparticles and chelation of doped nitrogen atoms in the carbon fibers.

Abstract:A new magnetic nanoparticles-supported palladium(II) nanomagnetic catalyst (Pd-AcAc-Am-Fe3O4@SiO2) was synthesized and characterized using attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR), inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The nanomagnetic catalyst was used as convenient and efficient catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of various aryl bromides/chlorides/iodides with phenylboronic acid. The effects of varying solvents, base, temperature, reaction time and catalyst amount on the performance of the Suzuki– Miyaura cross-coupling reaction were investigated. The notable advantages of this heterogeneous nanomagnetic catalyst are excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, short reaction times and easy magnetic work-up and recyclability. Moreover, the new nanomagnetic catalyst could be easily recovered with an external magnet and could be reused at least six times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract:A new functionalized SBA-16 catalyst immobilized palladium (II) has been synthesized. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP), small-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nitrogen physical adsorption and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies have been used to characterize the catalyst. The catalyst exhibited very high activity for Suzuki coupling reaction of aryl halides with arylboronic acids in EtOH/water under air atmosphere. On the other hand, the synthesized catalyst could be separated from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and reused up to five runs without significant loss in activity.

Abstract:Silica-immobilized benzamide palladium complex was prepared and characterized. The complex exhibits excellent catalytic activity and stability for Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction under mild aqueous reaction condition. Various aryl bromides were coupled with arylboronic acids in i-PrOH/H2O, under open air at room temperature, in the presence of 0.22 mol% of the catalyst to afford corresponding cross-coupled products in high yields.
