Abstract:A highly regioselective Ni-catalyzed electrochemical reductive relay cross-coupling between an aryl halide and an alkyl halide has been developed in an undivided cell. Abstract:Compared with conventional reductive coupling, reductive coupling under electrochemical conditions without external reductants is greener, milder, and more efficient and is of increasing interest to organic chemists. In this work, we report the sacrificial anode, nickel-catalyzed electrochemical allylation reaction of aryl and alkyl halides. The reaction can be applied to a range of allylation reagents such as trifluoroalkenes, oxalates, and acetates.

Abstract:We describe the first nickel-N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling reaction of a variety of unactivated aryl chlorides, heterocyclic chlorides, aryl dichlorides, and vinyl chloride. The mononuclear and binuclear nickel-NHC complexes Supported by heteroarene-functionalized NHC ligands are found to be highly efficient for the coupling of unactivated aryl chlorides and organozinc reagents, leading to biaryls and terphenyls in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. For all aryl chlorides, the binuclear nickel catalysts show activities higher than those of mononuclear nickel complexes because of Possible bimetallic cooperative effect.

Abstract:We report a nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling between readily available nitroarenes and phosphine oxides to approach phosphinic amides. This reaction used NiCl2/Xantphos as a catalyst, zinc as a reductant, and TMSCl as an additive, resulting in various phosphinic amides with moderate to good yields. Abstract:Herein, we report the first general C(sp<sup>2</sup>)-C(sp<sup>2</sup>) reductive cross-coupling reaction of diverse triarylphosphines with a wide range of aryl halides by palladium/nickel co-catalysis. This protocol offers a unique route for the synthesis of biaryl compounds via the activation of inert C(Ar)-P bonds. The mechanistic studies demonstrate that the formation of the phosphonium salts in situ plays a key role in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A facile and rapid synthesis of unsymmetrical aryl disulfides using PPh3-mediated reductive coupling of thiophenols with aryl sulfonyl chlorides was described. Good functional group tolerance and scalability were achieved in this strategy. More importantly, the approach enables the introduction of sulfonyl chlorides into the synthesis of asymmetric organic disulfides under catalyst- and base-free conditions. Using this method, unsymmetrical aromatic disulfides could be prepared from inexpensive and readily available starting materials in moderate to excellent isolated yields, through a nucleophilic substitution pathway.

Abstract:Nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling (XEC) reactions of (hetero)aryl electrophiles represent appealing alternatives to palladium-catalyzed methods for biaryl synthesis, but they often generate significant quantities of homocoupling and/or proto-dehalogenation side products. In this study, an informer library of heteroaryl chloride and aryl bromide coupling partners is used to identify Ni-catalyzed XEC conditions that access high selectivity for the cross-product when using equimolar quantities of the two substrates. Two different catalyst systems are identified that show complementary scope and broad functional-group tolerance, and time-course data suggest the two methods follow different mechanisms. A NiBr2/terpyridine catalyst system with Zn as the reductant converts the aryl bromide into an aryl-zinc intermediate that undergoes in situ coupling with 2-chloropyridines, while a NiBr2/bipyridine catalyst system with tetrakis(dimethylamino)ethylene as the reductant uses FeBr2 and NaI as additives to achieve selective cross-coupling.
