Abstract:This paper mainly refers to the controllable synthesis and characterization of CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) using TGA (Mercaptoacetic acid) in aqueous system. Through XRD, TEM, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and PL spectrum, we characterize the structure, morphology and optical spectra of the sample, and also analyze the factors including Cd/Te ratio, the pH value of the initial solution, water bath reflux time, solution concentration, etc. The results show that the higher Cd/Te ratio, the smaller and uniformer size of CdTe NCs. As the pH value of the solution increases, the growth of the CdTe NCs becomes faster and the average particle size is larger. The growth rate of NCs is fast in the early stage and then slows down after 1 h. The higher temperature of the water bath reflux, the faster nucleation and growth rate of CdTe NCs.

Abstract:A novel aqueous route for the synthesis of high-quality CdTe nanocrystals(NCs) is presented in this article. With both glutathione(GSH) and cysteine[n(GSH):n(cysteine)=1:3] as stabilizers, high-quality CdTe NCs with controllable photoluminescence(PL) wavelength from 500 to 630 nm can be prepared within 4 h. As-prepared CdTe NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields(PLQY) compared with CdTe NCs prepared via other aqueous methods. When the fluorescent emission peak appeared in orange-red window, the PLQY reaches 70% or above at room temperature without any post-preparative treatment.

Abstract:In this paper, we systematically investigated the aqueous synthesis conditions of CdTe nanocrystals (QDs), and found that the pH value and the concentrations of precursors significantly affected the photoluminescence quantum yield (QY) of CdTe QDs. When the concentration of precursors (Cd) was 1.25mM, and the pH of Cd precursors solution was about 8.0, CdTe QDs with high QY up to 40–67% were successfully prepared in aqueous phase. Moreover, these high luminescent QDs showed excellent stabilities in aqueous phases, and their luminescence was nearly independent of the pH of the colloid solution. The XPS and XRD characterizations implied that the high luminescence of the QDs synthesized at lower pH was possibly attributed to the formation of the thicker shell (cadmium–3–mercaptopropionic acid complexes) on particles surface, which not only decreased the traps on QDs surface, but also acted as a steric barrier to control the kinetics of QDs growth and led to the formation of a better surface structure. Our modification of conventional aqueous synthesis dramatically improved the QY of the prepared CdTe QDs, and it will become an attractive alternative to the synthesis of QDs in organic phase.

Abstract:A facile green approach has been developed to control the growth regime in the aqueous synthesis of CdTe semiconductor Quantum dots (QDs) via the electrochemistry method. The Low growth temperature and slow injection of Te precursors are used to prolong the diffusion controlled stage and thus suppress Ostwald ripening during nanocrystal growth. The experimental results showed that a low concentration of Te precursor would definitely influence the growth procedure. The narrow absorption peaks in the UV-visible absorption spectra, as well as transmission electron microscopy images indicated that the as-prepared CdTe QDs had a good monodispersity. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern suggested that the as-prepared QDs have high crystallinity and cubic structure. The QDs exhibited high fluorescence QYs about 50% and the best of QY 67% without any postpreparative treatment over a broad spectral range of 516-609 nm, which could be further broadened by long-term refluxing. The current work suggested that electrochemical method was an attractive approach to the synthesis of high-quality II-VI semiconductor QDs at a large scale.

Abstract:By using a novel procedure, a new kind of water-soluble CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) is synthesized in aqueous solutions at the temperature of 100 degrees C. In this procedure, tripeptide thiol glutathione was used as stabilizing agent, CdTe NCs with controllable photoluminescence wavelength from 500 nm to 680 nm were prepared within two hours. Compared with CdTe NCs prepared with thiohydracrylic acid as stabilizing agent, as-prepared NCs show much narrower photoluminescence FWHM, more symmetrical emission peak and higher photoluminescence quantum yield. The surface structure of as-prepared CdTe NCs is deduced, therefore, there may be some unreported circular structure on the surface. Experimental results show that as-prepared NCs have very good biological compatibility and they are nontoxic. And these CdTe NCs can conjugate with biological molecules for further biological luminescence study. The proposed hydrothermal synthesis procedure has the advantage of simplicity, inexpensiveness, time saving and mild operating conditions.

Abstract:The highly fluorescent CdTe quantum dots(QDs)have been synthesized by using thioglycolic acid(TGA) as a stabilizer and a new procedure of the introduction of Te source in aqueous solution.CdTe nanocrystals(NCs) have a tunable fluorescence emission wavelength range from 510 nm to 620 nm.Their narrowest full width at half maximum(FWHM) of about 34 nm,and the maximum quantum yield(QYs) of 60%.These CdTe nanocrystals were characterized by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray and FT-IR spectroscopy.The effects of starting pH and the molar ratio of TGA/Cd2+ on the synthesis of CdTe QDs were investigated.The experimental results indicate that starting pH plays an important role in improving optical properties and controlling the growth rate of CdTe nanocrystals.The possible growth mechanism of CdTe nanocrystals at various pH was discussed.A new modified LSW model of particles growth was proposed.

Abstract:Water-dispersed nanocrystals with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and narrow size distribution are desirable for a variety of bioapplications. In this report, we present a facile method assisted by microwave irradiation for rapidly synthesizing high-quality CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous phase. The PLQY of CdTe nanocrystals prepared in very short time (15 min) reaches as high as 82%, and the fwhm value is merely 27 nm meanwhile. Moreover, the PLQY is increased to a remarkable 98% after further amelioration through the illumination method. The key synthesis parameters (molar ratio of reagents, pH values, reaction temperature, and time) are fully discussed, and the optimum conditions are illuminated in this paper. In addition, the mechanism about microwave irradiation improving the quality of nanocrystals is discussed as well.

Abstract:Highly luminescent positively charged CdTe nanocrystals were prepared from a facile and reproducible approach by the reaction of Cd2+ and HTe- in the presence of mercaptoethylamine. The influence of various experimental variables, including pH value, growth temperature, Te-to-Cd ratio, as well as Cd-to-ligand ratio, on the growth rate and optical properties of CdTe nanocrystals have been systematically investigated. Experimental results indicate that the pH value and Te-to-Cd molar ratio play the crucial role in determining luminescent properties of the obtained CdTe nanocrystals. The mechanism for the resulting high-quality optical properties of the resulting CdTe nanocrystals was also elucidated.

Abstract:Surface passivation of nanocrystals with suitable organic or inorganic materials is key to improving the photoluminescence (PL) efficiency and stability of nanocrystals. Although the hot-injection organometallic approach is a powerful tool to achieve different kinds of core/shell structures, direct synthesis of such structures in aqueous phase, which bears many advantages such as biocompatibility, water-solubility, environment-friendliness, and cheapness, is less often reported. Herein we present a facile approach for the one-pot preparation of a water-soluble core/shell structure with CdTe cores packed in a CdS shell in aqueous phase. In comparison with plain CdTe nanocrystals, the PL efficiency of the obtained CdTe/CdS core/shell structure can approach about 75%. The stability of the core/shell structure to UV irradiation and oxidation is also improved.

Abstract:Over the past few years, CdTe quantum dots have been demonstrated as powerful probes for biophotonics applications. The aqueous phase synthesis technique remains the best approach to make high quality CdTe QDs in a single‐pot process. CdTe QDs prepared directly in the aqueous phase can have quantum yield as high as 80%. In addition, the surface of CdTe QDs prepared using the aqueous phase technique is functionalized with reactive groups that enable them to be directly conjugated with specific ligands for targeted delivery and sensing. In this contribution, we review recent progress in fabricating aqueous CdTe QDs and exploiting their optical properties in novel approaches to biomedical imaging and sensing applications. Abstract:This work focused on a catalyst-free solution-based method to synthesize single-crystal CdE (E = S, Se and Te) nanowires. Using the hot coordinating solvents method, we have successfully synthesized high aspect ratio CdE nanowires. In this paper, we present our very recent results on the synthesis of CdTe nanowires and summarize our understanding of the effect of reaction parameters on the growth of CdE nanowires. The reaction parameters include ligands for Cd-complexes and E-complexes, ligand-to-Cd mole ratio, Cd-to-E mole ratio, precursor concentration, reaction temperature and the injection process. We propose the optimum conditions for the growth of CdE nanocrystals with a large aspect ratio. Possible growth mechanisms were also investigated using time-dependent studies. Furthermore, a Raman study shows a higher concentration of tellurium on the surface of CdTe nanowires. This is understandable because the free energy of Te is smaller than that of CdTe and thus Te crystals can easily form during the synthesis. Our high aspect-ratio nanowires have good dispersibility and exhibit huge potential applications in areas such as solution processed photovoltaic cells and transistors.
Aqueous Synthesis of CdTe/CdS/ZnS Quantum Dots and Their Optical and Chemical Properties

Abstract:In this paper, we described a strategy for synthesis of thiol-coated CdTe/CdS/ZnS (core-shell-shell) quantum dots (QDs) via aqueous synthesis approach. The synthesis conditions were systematically optimized, which included the size of CdTe core, the refluxing time and the number of monolayers and the ligands, and then the chemical and optical properties of the as-prepared products were investigated. We found that the mercaptopropionic acid (MPA)-coated CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs presented highly photoluminescent quantum yields (PL QYs), good photostability and chemical stability, good salt tolerance and pH tolerance and favorable biocompatibility. The characterization of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) showed that the CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs had good monodispersity and crystal structure. The fluorescence life time spectra demonstrated that CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs had a longer lifetime in contrast to fluorescent dyes and CdTe QDs. Furthermore, the MPA-stabilized CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs were applied for the imaging of cells. Compared with current synthesis methods, our synthesis approach was reproducible and simple, and the reaction conditions were mild. More importantly, our method was cost-effective, and was very suitable for large-scale synthesis of CdTe/CdS/ZnS QDs for future applications.
Synthesis And Characterization Of Thiol-Stabilized Cdte, Cdse Nanocrystals By A Modified Hydrothennal Method

Abstract:A modified method to prepare high-quality thiol-stabilized CdTe and CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) was reported in this paper. The experimental results showed that the PL properties of the CdTe NCs were strongly dependent on the initial TGA-to-cadmium ratio and concentration of the precursors in the solution. When the concentration of Cd2+ was 6mM and [TGA]/[Cd2+] was 2.4, the high reactivity of the monomers resulted in generating a large amount of nanoparticles in the nucleation stage, in favor of the reconstruction and optimum surface NCs in the following growth. Using lower concentration ([Cd2+]=2mM) of precursors, this aqueous synthesis of thiol-stabilized CdTe NCs provided lower reaction yields, the optimum properties of NCs were obtained when [TGA]/[Cd2+] was 1.2. In addition, CdSe NCs with the maximum PL QV of approximately 16% can be obtained with Na2SeSO3 as Se precursor instead of NaHSe.
