Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp(3)) - H bond aminocarbonylation of 8-methylquinolines and isocyanates has been realized under mild conditions. This approach is applicable to different aryl and alkyl isocyanates, leading to the synthesis of various alpha-quinolinyl amide compounds in moderate to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed according to the experimental results obtained.

Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed cascade oxidative alkenylation/cyclization of picolinamides and alkenes to furnish pyrido pyrrolone derivatives is described, in which three C-H bonds and one N-H bond broke, while one C-C bond and one C-N bond formed. The reaction proceeded with high yield and high regioselectivity and stereoselectivity. Moreover, copper acetate can also be used in catalytic amounts with O-2 serving as the terminal oxidant.

Abstract:Herein, we disclose a general and practical iminoarylation of alkenes by nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling of unsaturated oxime esters with readily available aryl halides, providing an expedient approach for constructing pyrroline derivatives. The absence of organometallic reagents enables the reaction to occur under mild conditions with a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. Moreover, other C-based electrophiles, including alkenyl, alkynyl and alkyl halides, or pseudohalides, were also competent substrates for this reaction.

Abstract:N-Nitroso compounds are a versatile class of organic structures that allow expedient access to a diversity of synthetically useful architectures through demonstrated reactivities. We report herein the development of a Rh(III)-catalyzed N-nitroso-directed methodology for the ortho-olefination of arenes. The heightened reactivity endowed by the N-nitroso group translates to mild reaction conditions, high reaction yields, and synthetic compatibility of otherwise elusive substrates (e.g., an unactivated olefin, 1-octene). Comprehensive mechanistic studies on the electronic effect, deuterium exchange, kinetic isotope effect, kinetic profile, and numerous Rh(III) complexes have established [RhCp*](2+) as the catalyst resting state, electrophilic C-H activation as the turnover-limiting step, and a five-membered rhodacycle as a catalytically competent intermediate. The ability to elaborate the N-nitroso moiety to an amine functionality provides a seminal example of the innumerable synthetic possibilities offered by this transformable directing group.

Abstract:A synthetic method of isoquinolines from aryl ketone O-acyloxime derivatives and internal alkynes has been developed using [Cp*RhCl(2)](2)-NaOAc as the potential catalyst system. The present transformation is carried out by a redox-neutral sequence of C-H vinylation via ortho-rhodation and C-N bond formation of the putative vinyl rhodium intermediate on the oxime nitrogen, where the N-O bond of oxime derivatives could work as an internal oxidant to maintain the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:We report a new protocol for palladium-catalyzed acetoxylation of the -C(sp(3))H bonds of N-alkylpicolinamide substrates using PhI(OAc)(2) oxidant. These reactions involve the use of substoichiometric amounts of Li2CO3 additive, which effectively suppresses the competing intramolecular CH amination process. Under these conditions, N-propylpicolinamides bearing substituents can be cleanly converted to -acetoxylated amine products in excellent yield. This CH acetoxylation can also be used in concert with other Pd-catalyzed picolinamide-directed CH functionalization reactions for rapid scaffold diversification.

Abstract:Rhodium(III)-catalyzed chelation-assisted highly regio- and stereoselective direct olefination of imidazoles with olefins has been developed. A broad range of C2-substituted N-(2-pyrimidyl)imidazoles underwent smooth C5-olefination with both activated and unactivated olefins to furnish the corresponding products in good to excellent yields with high tolerance of functional groups on both coupling partners in the presence of a cationic rhodium(III) catalyst. The combination of a catalytic amount of Cu(OAc)(2) (copper(II) acetate) and O-2 (oxygen) serves as the terminal oxidant. This protocol strongly relies on the use of 2-substituted imidazoles as the substrates, and the presence of readily installable and removable pyrimidyl directing group was found to be critical for catalysis. Mechanistic studies suggest the involvement of a five-membered rhodacycle as the key intermediate in the catalytic cycle. The method can also be extended to the coupling reaction of benzimidazoles with olefins.

Abstract:We report herein a Rh(III)-catalyzed alkenyl CH activation protocol for the coupling of oxadiazoles with alkynes and synthesis of 2-acylamino and 2-amino pyridines, an important heterocyclic scaffold for various naturals products and synthetic pharmaceuticals bearing a readily reacting functional group. The selective protection/deprotection of amino groups through simple solvent switching, good functional group compatibility, superior product yield, and high regioselectivity are some of the notable synthetic features witnessed in this reaction protocol.

Abstract:A β‐hydroxy elimination instead of common oxidization of carbonyl groups in secondary propargylic alcohols were successfully developed to form 2‐benzyl substituted isoquinoline N‐oxides by a Rh‐catalyzed C‐H activation and annulation cascade, in which moderate to excellent yields (up to 92%) could be obtained under mild reaction conditions, along with good regioselectivity, broad generality and applicability.

Abstract:Co(III)-catalyzed highly regio- and stereoselective direct C6 olefination of 2-pyridones with alkynes has been developed with the assistance of chelation. Upon variation of the reaction conditions, 2-pyridones react well with diaryl alkynes via a C6 olefination/directing group migration pathway to give the tetrasubstituted 6-vinyl-2-pyridones, but the C6–H olefination with terminal alkynes works effectively to afford only the C6-olefinated 2-pyridones. A judicious choice of a solvent and an additive is crucial for catalysis. The protocols feature 100% atom economy, excellent site selectivity, high stereoselectivity, an ample substrate scope, and good compatibility of functional groups.
