Abstract:Here we report the first highly enantioselective Rh-catalyzed carboacylation of olefins via C-C bond activation of benzocyclobutenones. Good yields and excellent enantioselectivities (92-99% ee, 14 examples) were obtained for substrates with various steric and electronic properties. In addition, fully saturated poly-fused rings were prepared from the carboacylation products through a challenging catalytic reductive dearomatization approach. These investigations provide a distinct way to prepare chiral carbon frameworks that are nontrivial to access with conventional methods.

Abstract:Rh-catalyzed highly chemo- and enantioselective hydrogenation of chromone-2-carboxylic acids was successfully established for the first time, providing a wide range of enantiopure chromanone-2-carboxylic acids with excellent results (up to 97% yield and 99% ee) and high efficiency (up to 10 000 TON). The carboxylic group in the substrate was demonstrated to play a vital role and an enantio-induction mode was elucidated by DFT calculation. This hydrogenation protocol provided straightforward access to various bioactive chromanoids.

Abstract:Abstract Enantioselective biotransformations of racemic trans -2-arylcyclopropanecarbonitriles catalyzed by Rhodococcus sp. AJ270 cells proceeded efficiently to give good to excellent optical yields of (−)-(1 R ,2 R )-2-arylcyclopropanecarboxamides and (+)-(1 S ,2 S )-2-arylcyclopropanecarboxylic acids, which were converted into optically active cyclopropylmethylamine and cyclopropylamine derivatives upon reduction and the Curtius rearrangement.

Abstract:Catalytic enantioselective reactions of trifluoromethyl carbene represent a powerful method for the construction of chiral trifluoromethyl-functionalized molecules, but the utilization of less reactive internal alkynes remains a persistent challenge in this domain. Herein, we report a chiral dirhodium(II) complex-catalyzed enantioselective cyclopropenation reaction of disubstituted alkynes by using 2,2,2-trifluorodiazoethane (CF3CHN2) as the trifluoromethyl carbene precursor. Achiral axial ligation by solvent molecules proves to be a key to improve the reactivity and control the stereoselectivity of metallocarbene species. This transformation provides efficient access to a wide range of enantioenriched trifluoromethyl group-substituted cyclopropenes, cyclopropanes, fused cyclopropane derivatives, and cyclopropyl boronate. The presented methodology constitutes a practical solution to a long-standing hurdle in catalytic enantioselective cyclopropenation of trifluoromethyl carbene with internal alkynes.
