Abstract:The Bronsted acid-promoted dimerization of o-alkynylbenzaldehydes has been discovered and studied in the presence of 45% aq. HBF4 in acetic acid. The developed cascade methodology provides a convenient one-step synthesis of symmetrical 2,3,6,7-dibenzo-9-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nona-2,6-diene (Kagan's ether) analogues bearing various functionalities.

Abstract:We herein report the functionalization of alpha-C-H in alcohols through cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions. Selectfluor was used as a mild oxidant. In situ-generated HF participated in the reaction and no external strong acid was necessary. A variety of heteroaryl-substituted alcohols were achieved with good yields and with good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:A Lewis-acid-promoted approach to the synthesis of highly functionalized dihydrobenzofuran derivatives was developed. A diverse range of functional groups are tolerated in this type of reaction. The reaction mechanism investigation indicates that the highly reactive phenyl cation intermediate is probably involved in this process. The chirality of substrate is retained under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:A practical Brønsted acid promoted benzylic C-H functionalization of 2-methylazaarenes and nucleophilic addition to aldehydes was developed in good to excellent yields. A six-membered hydrogen-bonding transition state is proposed to be crucial for the reaction. Ready availability of the two starting materials, the use of acetic acid as the catalyst and the facile reaction conditions will guarantee this synthetic method attractive to the synthesis of bioactive pyridine and quinoline derivatives.

Abstract:Catalytic hydroalkylation reaction of alkenes with benzylic hydrocarbons involving t-BuOK/DMF-mediated benzylic C-H bond activation is demonstrated. Abstract:A general method to synthesize functionalized allyl -amino acid derivatives through an irreversible oxy-2-azonia-Cope rearrangement is reported. In the presence of AlCl3, the reaction of imino ethyl glyoxalates with various ,-unsaturated ketones furnished the corresponding allyl -amino acid derivatives. The key to the success of this method is the amide bond formation, which makes the rearrangement irreversible. This reaction system constitutes a new strategy for the synthesis of unusual allyl glycine derivatives, which are valuable synthetic intermediates. An efficient and operationally simple three-component version of this reaction was also performed.

Abstract:We disclose a benzylic C–H oxidative coupling reaction with alcohols that proceeds through a synergistic deprotonation, halogenation and substitution sequence. The combination of tert-butoxide bases with 2-halothiophene halogen oxidants enables the first general protocol for generating and using benzyl halides through a deprotonative pathway. In contrast to existing radical-based pathways for C–H functionalization, this process is guided by C–H acidity trends. This gives rise to new synthetic capabilities, including the ability to functionalize diverse methyl(hetero)arenes, tolerance of oxidizable and nucleophilic functional groups, precision regioselectivity for polyalkylarenes and use of a double C–H etherification process to controllably oxidize methylarenes to benzaldehydes.
