Abstract:For n = 1, 2, 3, ... let S-n be the sum of the first n primes. We mainly show that the sequence a(n) = (n)root S-n/n (n = 1, 2, 3, ... ) is strictly decreasing, and moreover the sequence a(n+1)/a(n) (n = 10, 11, ... ) is strictly increasing. We also formulate similar conjectures involving twin primes or partitions of integers.

Abstract:Let $\varphi(n)$ denote the Euler totient function. In this paper, we first establish a new upper bound for $n/\varphi(n)$ involving $K(n)$, the function that counts the number of primorials not exceeding $n$. In particular, this leads to an answer to a question raised by Aoudjit, Berkane, and Dusart concerning an upper bound for the sum-of-divisors function $\sigma(n)$. Furthermore, we give some lower bounds for $N_k/\varphi(N_k)$ as well as for $\sigma(N_k)/N_k$, where $N_k$ denotes the $k$th primorial.

Abstract:In this paper we study mixed sums of primes and linear recurrences. We show that if m=2(mod 4) and m+1 is a prime then $(m^{2^n-1}-1)/(m-1)\not=m^n+p^a$ for any n=3,4,... and prime power p^a. We also prove that if a>1 is an integer, u_0=0, u_1=1 and u_{i+1}=au_i+u_{i-1} for i=1,2,3,..., then all the sums u_m+au_n (m,n=1,2,3,...) are distinct. One of our conjectures states that any integer n>4 can be written as the sum of an odd prime, an odd Fibonacci number and a positive Fibonacci number.

Abstract:For $x>0$, let $\pi (x)$ denote the number of primes not exceeding x. For integers a and $m>0$, we determine when there is an integer $n>1$ with $\pi (n)=(n+a)/m$. In particular, we show that, for any integers $m>2$ and $a\leqslant \lceil e^{m-1}/(m-1)\rceil $, there is an integer $n>1$ with $\pi (n)=(n+a)/m$. Consequently, for any integer $m>4$, there is a positive integer n with $\pi (mn)=m+n$. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that, for each $m=1,2,3,\ldots $, there is a positive integer n such that $m+n$ divides $p_m+p_n$, where $p_k$ denotes the k-th prime.

Abstract:For $x\ge0$ let $\pi(x)$ be the number of primes not exceeding $x$. The asymptotic behaviors of the prime-counting function $\pi(x)$ and the $n$-th prime $p_n$ have been studied intensively in analytic number theory. Surprisingly, we find that $\pi(x)$ and $p_n$ have many combinatorial properties which should not be ignored. In this paper we pose 60 open problems on combinatorial properties of primes (including connections between primes and partition functions) for further research. For example, we conjecture that for any integer $n>1$ one of the $n$ numbers $\pi(n),\pi(2n),...,\pi(n^2)$ is prime; we also conjecture that for any integer $n>6$ there exists a prime $p

Abstract:For n = 1, 2, 3, ... define S(n) as the smallest integer m > 1 such that those 2k(k - 1) mod m for k = 1, ... , n are pairwise distinct; we show that S(n) is the least prime greater than 2n - 2 and hence the value set of the function S(n) is exactly the set of all prime numbers. For every n = 4, 5, ... , we prove that the least prime p > 3n with p equivalent to 1 (mod 3) is just the least positive integer m such that 18k(3k - 1) (k = 1, ... , n) are pairwise distinct modulo m. For d is an element of {4, 6, 12} and n = 3, 4, ... , we show that the least prime p >= 2n - 1 with p equivalent to -1 (mod d) is the smallest integer m such that those (2k - 1)(d) for k = 1, ... , n are pairwise distinct modulo m. We also pose several challenging conjectures on primes. For example, we find a surprising recurrence for primes, namely, for every n = 10, 11, ... the (n + 1)-th prime p(n+1) is just the least positive integer m such that 2s(k)(2) (k = 1, ..., n) are pairwise distinct modulo m where s(k) = Sigma(k)(j=1) (-1)(k-j) p(j). We also conjecture that for any positive integer m there are consecutive primes p(k), ... , p(n) (k < n) not exceeding 2m + 2.2 root m such that m = p(n) - p(n-1) + ... + (-1)(n-k) p(k). In this paper we obtain the following identity: [Formula: see text] We explain how we found the series and develop related congruences involving Bernoulli or Euler numbers; for example, it is shown that [Formula: see text] for any prime p > 3, where E0, E1, E2, … are Euler numbers. Motivated by the Amdeberhan–Zeilberger identity [Formula: see text], we also establish the congruence [Formula: see text] for each prime p > 3.

Abstract:We establish quantitative lower bounds for the number of primes $p$ such that, for an odd integer $b$, $p - b \leq N$ and $p - b = 2^{k(N) + m} P_k \quad \text{for some } m \geq 0$, where $P_k$ is a product of at most $k$ primes other than 2, for $k \geq 2$. These results hold under various upper bounds for $2^{k(N)}$ depending on $k $, specifically when $2^{k(N)} \leq N^a$ for different values of $a$. Our approach combines techniques from Chen's theorem, weighted sieves, and Selberg's lower bound sieve, as well as results on primes in arithmetic progressions with large power factor moduli.

Abstract:We study whether sufficiently large integers can be written in the form cp+T_x, where p is either zero or a prime congruent to r mod d, and T_x=x(x+1)/2 is a triangular number. We also investigate whether there are infinitely many positive integers not of the form (2^ap-r)/m+T_x with p a prime and x an integer. Besides two theorems, the paper also contains several conjectures together with related analysis and numerical data. One of our conjectures states that each natural number not equal to 216 can be written in the form p+T_x with x an integer and p a prime or zero; another conjecture asserts that any odd integer n>3 can be written in the form p+x(x+1) with p a prime and x a positive integer.

Abstract:The author sharpens a result of Jia (1996), showing that the interval $[n, n+n^{\frac{1}{21.5}+\varepsilon}]$ contains prime numbers for almost all $n$. Watt's mean value bound, a delicate sieve decomposition and more accurate estimates for integrals are used to good effect.

Abstract:In this paper we solve the ternary Piatetski-Shapiro inequality with prime numbers of a special form. More precisely we show that, for any fixed $1<c<\frac{427}{400}$, every sufficiently large positive number $N$ and a small constant $\varepsilon>0$, the diophantine inequality \begin{equation*} |p_1^c+p_2^c+p_3^c-N|<\varepsilon \end{equation*} has a solution in prime numbers $p_1,\,p_2,\,p_3$, such that $p_1=x^2 + y^2 +1$. For this purpose we establish a new Bombieri -- Vinogradov type result for exponential sums over primes.

Abstract:We pose 100 new conjectures on representations involving primes or related things, which might interest number theorists and stimulate further research. Below are five typical examples: (i) For any positive integer n, there exists $k\in \{0,\ldots ,n\}$ such that $n+k$ and $n+k^2$ are both prime. (ii) Each integer $n>1$ can be written as $x+y$ with $x,y\in \{1,2,3,\ldots \}$ such that $x+ny$ and $x^2+ny^2$ are both prime. (iii) For any rational number $r>0$, there are distinct primes $q_1,\ldots ,q_k$ with $r=\sum _{j=1}^k1/(q_j-1)$. (iv) Every $n=4,5,\ldots $ can be written as $p+q$, where p is a prime with $p-1$ and $p+1$ both practical, and q is either prime or practical. (v) Any positive rational number can be written as m/n, where m and n are positive integers with $p_m+p_n$ a square (or $\pi (m)\pi (n)$ a positive square), $p_k$ is the kth prime and $\pi (x)$ is the prime-counting function.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime. We show that $$T_{p-1}=(p/3)3^{p-1} (mod p^2},$$ where the central trinomial coefficient $T_n$ is the constant term in the expansion of $(1+x+x^{-1})^n$. We also prove three congruences conjectured by Sun one of which is as follows: $$\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\binom{p-1}{k}\binom{2k}{k}((-1)^k-(-3)^{-k})=(p/3)(3^{p-1}-1) (mod p^3).$$
