A Survey on the Use of the National College Textbook Epidemiology (6th Edition)

Abstract:To evaluate to the use of the textbook Epidemiology(6th edition) and to provide evidence to guide the 7th edition to better meet the needs of readers and support the undergraduate teaching of epidemiology,a network questionnaire survey was conducted among 39 teachers and 176 readers who have used the textbook.According to the results,the textbook was generally thought highly of with a rational design & layout and rare inappropriateness and mistakes of punctuation,text,sentences,pictures,and tables.Rather than guiding practice in the public health,monitoring,disease prevention and control,the textbook showed a much stronger effect on helping undergraduates acquire and grasp the basic epidemiological theory,knowledge and skills.And the part of general theory and methodology in the textbook was better evaluated than the other two parts,interdisciplinary and epidemiology & diseases.The respondents suggested that the textbook Epidemiology(7th Edition) should keep black and white printing,and each chapter should add “recommended reading lists,bibliography,or network resources” and “chapter introduction and guidance”.
