Abstract:In this paper it is proved that the period function of reversible Lotka-Volterra quadratic systems is monotone, unless the associated center is isochronous. For this class of quadratic systems, the traditional criterion function on the monotonicity of period function does not work, we improve the criterion function to new different forms such that it can be used for different values of the parameters in the system. Furthermore, to overcome the difficulty that the exponential function of the parameter appears in the first integral, in our study we combine the analytic expressions with their geometric meanings and symbolic computations. These methods may be used for other problems.

Abstract:We prove that the period function of the center at the origin of the $\mathbb{Z}_k$-equivariant differential equation $\dot{z}=iz+a(z\overline{z})^nz^{k+1}, a\ne0,$ is monotonous decreasing for all $n$ and $k$ positive integers, solving a conjecture about them. We show this result as corollary of proving that the period function of the center at the origin of a sub-family of the reversible quadratic centers is monotonous decreasing as well.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the monotonicity of period function of the planar generalized quadratic Lotka-Volterra systems. By taking two invariant lines as new coordinate axes and making a constant time scale change to transform the systems and simplify the first integrals, it is proved for the case without complex invariant lines that the period function is monotone increasing, which gives a positive answer to some cases of the conjecture proposed by Chicone [4].

Abstract:We investigate the monotonicity of the minimal period of the periodic solutions of some quasilinear differential equations involving the $p$-Laplace operator. The monotonicity is obtained as a function of a Hamiltonian energy in two cases. We first extend to the case $p\ge2$ classical results for $p=2$ due to Chow and Wang, and Chicone. Then we consider a differential equation associated with a fundamental interpolation inequality in Sobolev spaces. In that case, we generalize to $p\ge2$ a recent result due to Benguria, Depassier and~Loss when $p=2$.

Abstract:For the system driven by a stationary Markov process {xi(t):t is an element of R+}, if it is in nonequilibrium steady state (i.e., irreversible), then there exists a function phi such that the fluctuation spectrum (or say: power spectrum density) of {phi(xi(t))} is nonmonotonic in [0,+infinity) under mild conditions, which means that there exist nonzero spectrum peaks of the fluctuation spectrum. For the system driven by a Markov chain with discrete time {xi(t):t is an element of Z(+)}, even if it is in equilibrium state (i.e., reversible), one cannot distinguish the equilibrium and nonequilibrium steady state in terms of the monotonicity of the fluctuation spectrum any more.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to extend the results associated with periodic orbits from two-dimensions to higher-dimensions. Because of the one-to-one correspondence between solutions for the monotone recurrence relation and orbits for the induced high-dimensional cylinder twist map, we consider the system of solutions for monotone recurrence relations instead. By introducing intersections of type ( k , l ), we propose the definition of generalized Birkhoff solutions, generalizing the concept of Birkhoff solutions. We show that if there is a ( p , q )-periodic solution which is not a generalized Birkhoff solution, then the system has positive topological entropy and the Farey interval of p / q is contained in the rotation set.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:The bifurcations and monotonicity of the period function of the Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel equation with Kerr law of nonlinearity are discussed. Firstly, by the traveling wave transformations, the Lakshmanan–Porsezian–Daniel equation is reduced to the planar Hamiltonian system whose Hamiltonian function includes a 6- th degree polynomial. Then we give the phase portraits of the Hamiltonian system, and some traveling waves including dark wave solutions, kink and anti-kink solutions and periodic solutions are constructed by using the bifurcation method of dynamical systems. Furthermore, we discuss the monotonicity of the period function of periodic wave solutions by using some Lemmas proposed by Yang and Zeng (Bull Sci Math 133(6):555-557, 2009). Finally, some numerical simulations are presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the monotonicity of the period map in terms of the energy levels for certain periodic solutions of the equation $-\varphi''+\varphi-\varphi^{k}=0$, where $k>1$ is a real number. We present a new approach to demonstrate this property, utilizing spectral information of the corresponding linearized operator around the periodic solution and tools related to Floquet theory.

Abstract:We prove that perturbing the periodic annulus of the reversible quadratic polynomial differential system $\dot x=y+ax^2$ , $\dot y=-x$ with a ≠ 0 inside the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems we can obtain at most two limit cycles, including their multiplicities. Since the first integral of the unperturbed system contains an exponential function, the traditional methods cannot be applied, except in Figuerasa, Tucker and Villadelprat (2013, J. Diff. Equ. , 254 , 3647–3663) a computer-assisted method was used. In this paper, we provide a method for studying the problem. This is also the first purely mathematical proof of the conjecture formulated by Dumortier and Roussarie (2009, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. , 2 , 723–781) for q ⩽ 2. The method may be used in other problems.

Invariant curves of low smooth quasi-periodic reversible mappings

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain the invariant curves of quasi-periodic reversible mappings with finite smoothness. Since the reversible property is difficult to maintain in the process of approximating smooth functions by analytical ones, Rüssmann's method in \cite{HR} is invalid. Inspired by the recent work of Li, Qi and Yuan in \cite{LJ}, we turn to regard the reversible mapping as the Poincaré map of a reversible differential equation. By constructing a KAM theorem for a reversible differential equation which is quasi-periodic in time, we obtain the invariant curves of the reversible mapping. Beyond that, we establish some variants of invariant curve theorems for quasi-periodic reversible mappings.

On the non-existence of isochronous centers in planar discontinuous differential systems

Abstract:The determination of whether a center is isochronous or not is a well-known problem in the qualitative theory of planar systems. In this paper, we explore planar piecewise discontinuous differential systems characterized by a straight switching line $y=0$ and $x=0$, respectively. Our investigation reveals that such systems do not possess an isochronous center at the origin.

Under some reasonable assumptions, we prove the existence of quasi-periodic solutions in a small neighborhood of zero solutions and the stability of zero solutions.

Abstract:We consider the existence of invariant curves of real analytic reversible mappings which are quasi-periodic in the angle variables. By the normal form theorem, we prove that under some assumptions, the original mapping is changed into its linear part via an analytic convergent transformation, so that invariants curves are obtained. In the iterative process, by solving the modified homological equations, we ensure that the transformed mapping is still reversible. As an application, we investigate the invariant curves of a class of nonlinear resonant oscillators, with the Birkhoff constants of the corresponding Poincar$\acute{e}$ mapping all zeros or not.

Monotonicity of limit wave speed of periodic traveling wave solutions via Abelian integral

Abstract:In this article, we investigate monotonicity of limit wave speed of periodic traveling wave solutions for a perturbed generalized KdV equation via Abelian integral. We have answered an open problem outlined by Yan et al. (2014) and the conjecture proposed by Ouyang et al. (2022). Geometric singular perturbation theory allows for the reduction of a three-dimensional dynamical system to a near-Hamiltonian planar system. Furthermore, utilizing the monotonic behavior of the ratio of Abelian integrals, we develop a method to show the existence of at most one isolated periodic traveling wave which is much simpler proof than that in Yan et al.(2014). Finally, we present numerical simulations that perfectly match the theoretical outcomes.

Abstract:We study dynamical systems arising as time-dependent compositions of Pomeau-Manneville-type intermittent maps. We establish central limit theorems for appropriately scaled and centered Birkhoff-like partial sums, with estimates on the rate of convergence. For maps chosen from a certain parameter range, but without additional assumptions on how the maps vary with time, we obtain a self-norming CLT provided that the variances of the partial sums grow sufficiently fast. When the maps are chosen randomly according to a shift-invariant probability measure, we identify conditions under which the quenched CLT holds, assuming fiberwise centering. Finally, we show a multivariate CLT for intermittent quasi-static systems. Our approach is based on Stein’s method of normal approximation.
