Abstract:Introduced in the field of many-body statistical mechanics, Yang-Baxter equation has become an important tool in a variety fields of physics. In this work, we report the first direct experimental simulation of the Yang-Baxter equation using linear quantum optics. The equality between the two sides of the Yang-Baxter equation in two dimension has been demonstrated directly, and the spectral parameter transformation in the Yang-Baxter equation is explicitly confirmed.
Exact Solution to the Quantum Rabi Model Within Bogoliubov Operators

Abstract:The quantum Rabi model can be solved exactly by the Bargmann transformation from real coordinate to complex variable recently [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{107}, 100401 (2011)]. By the extended coherent states, we recover this solution in an alternative simpler and perhaps more physical way without uses of any extra conditions, like Bargmann conditions. In the same framework, the two-photon Rabi model are solved exactly by extended squeeze states. Transcendental functions have been derived with the similar form as those in one-photon model. Both extended coherent states and squeeze states are essentially Fock states in the space of the corresponding Bogoliubov operators. The present approach could be easily extended to study the exact solvability or integrability of various spin-boson systems with multi-level, even multi-mode.
Fast Simulation of Many-Body Rydberg Atomic Systems for Quantum Sensing

Abstract:Quantum sensing based on Rydberg atoms is an emerging technology for electric-field measurement. Theoretical and numerical studies were generally limited by the many-body effect in atomic ensembles. In this work, we initially derived a many-body dynamic equation by incorporating the Rydberg- Rydberg interaction into the four-level optical Bloch equation. Particularly, we proposed a fast steady-state solution as an alternative to the transient one. As a result, we ingeniously replaced the computationally expensive matrix operations with a linearly iterative process, enabling rapid convergence within few steps while considering the Doppler frequency shift. This approach made it possible to simulate the interaction of 7000 atoms in less than a minute. Based on the many-body model, we investigated the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and Autler- Townes (AT) splitting under varying atomic gas densities; and compared the numerical results with experimental data. The comparison revealed a relatively-low error of 4.59% for the EITAT simulation by the many-body model. Moreover, we found that the linear dynamic range of the quantum sensing shrinks when considering the many-body interaction.

Abstract:We present a generalization of the master solution to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation (obtained recently in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1006.0651" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1006.0651">arXiv:1006.0651</a>) to the case of multi-component continuous spin variables taking values on a circle. The Boltzmann weights are expressed in terms of the elliptic gamma-function. The associated solvable lattice model admits various equivalent descriptions, including an interaction-round-a-face formulation with positive Boltzmann weights. In the quasi-classical limit the model leads to a new series of classical discrete integrable equations on planar graphs.

Abstract:The Yang-Baxter equation first appeared in theoretical physics, in a paper by the Nobel laureate C. N. Yang, and in statistical mechanics, in R. J. Baxter’s work. Later, it turned out that this equation plays a crucial role in: quantum groups, knot theory, braided categories, analysis of integrable systems, quantum mechanics, non-commutative descent theory, quantum computing, non-commutative geometry, etc. Many scientists have found solutions for the Yang-Baxter equation, obtaining qualitative results (using the axioms of various algebraic structures) or quantitative results (usually using computer calculations). However, the full classification of its solutions remains an open problem. In this paper, we present the (set-theoretical) Yang-Baxter equation, we sketch the proof of a new theorem, we state some problems, and discuss about directions for future research.

Abstract:How to give the set-solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation is an important subject[1]. The aim of this paper is to study this subject under inverse semigroups. For an inverse semigroup S and a map R:S × S→S×S, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for R to be a solution of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation, and then for the case of Clifford semigroups, four set-solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation are obtained. The solutions of the equation under the meaning of groups are generalized. This is an improvement of the study on Drinfeld problem.

Abstract:We study the folding of the regular two-dimensional triangular lattice embedded in the regular three-dimensional Face Centered Cubic lattice, in the presence of quenched random spontaneous curvature. We consider two types of quenched randomness: (1) a ``physical'' randomness arising from a prior random folding of the lattice, creating a prefered spontaneous curvature on the bonds; (2) a simple randomness where the spontaneous curvature is chosen at random independently on each bond. We study the folding transitions of the two models within the hexagon approximation of the Cluster Variation Method. Depending on the type of randomness, the system shows different behaviors. We finally discuss a Hopfield-like model as an extension of the physical randomness problem to account for the case where several different configurations are stored in the prior pre-folding process.

Abstract:Quantum computers provide a promising method to study the dynamics of many-body systems beyond classical simulation. On the other hand, the analytical methods developed and results obtained from the integrable systems provide deep insights on the many-body system. Quantum simulation of the integrable system not only provides a valid benchmark for quantum computers but is also the first step in studying integrable-breaking systems. The building block for the simulation of an integrable system is the Yang-Baxter gate. It is vital to know how to optimally realize the Yang-Baxter gates on quantum computers. Based on the geometric picture of the Yang-Baxter gates, we present the optimal realizations of two types of Yang-Baxter gates with a minimal number of CNOT or $R_{zz}$ gates. We also show how to systematically realize the Yang-Baxter gates via the pulse control. We test and compare the different realizations on IBM quantum computers. We find that the pulse realizations of the Yang-Baxter gates always have a higher gate fidelity compared to the optimal CNOT or $R_{zz}$ realizations. On the basis of the above optimal realizations, we demonstrate the simulation of the Yang-Baxter equation on quantum computers. Our results provide a guideline and standard for further experimental studies based on the Yang-Baxter gate.

Abstract:The Yang-Baxter Equation (YBE) plays a crucial role for studying integrable many-body quantum systems. Many known YBE solutions provide various examples ranging from quantum spin chains to superconducting systems. Models of solvable statistical mechanics and their avatars are also based on YBE. Therefore, new solutions of the YBE could be used to construct new interesting 1D quantum or 2D classical systems with many other far-reaching applications. In this work, we attempt to find (almost) exhaustive set of solutions for the YBE in the lowest dimensions corresponding to a two-qubit case. We develop an algorithm, which can potentially be used for generating new higher-dimensional solutions of the YBE.

Abstract:Adiabatic quantum computation is of fundamental importance in the field of quantum computation as it offers an alternative approach to the gate-based model for the manipulation of quantum systems. Recently, an interesting work [arXiv:1805.10549] indicated that we can solve a linear equation system via an algorithm inspired by adiabatic quantum computing. Here we demonstrate the algorithm in a four-qubit nuclear magnetic resonance system by determining the solution of an eight-dimensional linear equation Ax = b. The result is by far the maximum-dimensional linear equation solution with a limited number of qubits in experiments, which include some ingenious simplifications. Our experiment provides the possibility of solving so many practical problems related to linear equations systems and has the potential applications in designing the future quantum algorithms.

Abstract:Many important problems in science and engineering can be reduced to the problem of solving linear equations. The quantum algorithm discovered recently indicates that one can solve an N-dimensional linear equation in O(log N) time, which provides an exponential speedup over the classical counterpart. Here we report an experimental demonstration of the quantum algorithm when the scale of the linear equation is 2 x 2 using a nuclear magnetic resonance quantum information processor. For all sets of experiments, the fidelities of the final four-qubit states are all above 96%. This experiment gives the possibility of solving a series of practical problems related to linear systems of equations and can serve as the basis to realize many potential quantum algorithms.

Abstract:We experimentally implement direct characterization of quantum dynamics (DCQD) algorithm of a single qubit proposed in M. Mohseni and D. A. Lidar [Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 170501 (2006)], which does not require quantum state tomography. The number of experimental configurations is reduced by a factor of 2 compared with that of standard quantum process tomography, which can be increased four times with an ideal Bell state analyzer. We combine the DCQD algorithm with maximum-likelihood estimation to give the physical characterization of quantum dynamics. It can also be applied to obtaining partial information about quantum dynamics.

Abstract:The Baxterization process for the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation is studied. We introduce the local dynamical Hecke ,Temperley-Lieb and Birman-Murakami-Wenzl operators, then by inserting spectral parameters, from each representation of these operators, we get dynamical R matrix under some conditions. As applications, we reformulate trigonometric degeneration of elliptic quantum group representations and also get dynamical R matrix for critical ADE integrable lattice models. Through Baxterization, we construct some one dimensional integrable systems that are dynamical version of the Heisenberg spin chain.

Abstract:The problem on the set-theoretical solutions to the quantum Yang–Baxter equation was presented by Drinfel'd as a main unsolved problem in quantum group theory. The set-theoretical solutions are a natural extension of the usual (linear) solutions. In this paper, we not only give a further study on some known set-theoretical solutions (the Venkov's solutions), but also find a new kind of set-theoretical solutions which have a geometric interpretation.
