Abstract:Second-harmonic generation (SHG) in PPKTP, PPMgSLT, and PPMgLN crystals is analyzed by frequency-doubling CW light from a 1064 nm fiber laser over a range of powers up to 10 W. Data for fundamental powers less than 3 W is used to determine the effects of the fundamental laser linewidth on SHG and to identify imperfections in the periodicity and boundary sharpness of the crystals' poled domains which can reduce SHG. Data for fundamental powers greater than 3 W is used to diagnose and model limiting effects on SHG such as pump depletion and thermal dephasing. Thermal dephasing was found to reduce second-harmonic power by 25% or more for input fundamental powers approaching 10 W.

Abstract:We demonstrate a nonlinearity optimization method by altering distribution of passive fibers in a dissipative-soliton mode-locked fiber laser to level up output parameters. In the numerical simulation, we found that the passive fiber segment after gain fiber characterizes the highest average B-integral among fiber segments. By reducing the length of this fiber section and keeping the total passive fiber length as constant, the output pulse energy can be effectively scaled up while maintaining a short dechirped pulse duration, resulting in boosting peak power. With this method, 37-nJ pulses are generated from a dissipative-soliton mode-locked cladding pumped ytterbium-doped single-mode fiber laser in the experiment. The pulse can be dechirped to 66 fs with 350 kW peak power. Moreover, the pulse pedestal is suppressed by a vector-dispersion compressor.

Abstract:We have demonstrated 1.61W of 780nm single-frequency continuous-wave laser output with a semi-monolithic periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) crystal doubler pumped by a 2-W erbium-doped fiber amplifier boosted 1560nm diode laser. The measured maximum doubling efficiency is 77%, and the practical value should be 80% when taking into account the fundamental-wave mode matching efficiency. The measured beam quality factor of 780nm output, M2, is better than 1.04. Typical root-mean-square fluctuation of 780nm output is less than 0.5% in 30minutes. This compact frequency doubler has good mechanical stability, and can be employed for many applications, such as laser cooling and trapping, atomic coherent control, atomic interferometer, and quantum frequency standard with rubidium atoms.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Dependence of both acceptance bandwidth and frequency conversion efficiency on the linear periodicity fluctuation in domain-inverted KTP crystals was investigated. The study was mainly focused on three main emission wavelength bands of current commercially available high power optical fiber lasers. That to use these artificially introduced domain periodicity fluctuations as the potential means to match the nonlinear crystal's acceptance bandwidth to a high power fiber laser's emission linewidth is believed effective in maximizing the nonlinear frequency conversion efficiency as much as possible.

Abstract:A high-power single-frequency 1178 nm continuous-wave laser is generated in a two-stage stimulated-Brillouin-scattering-suppressed all-polarization-maintaining Raman fiber amplifier pumped by 1120 nm fiber lasers. A polarization-extinction-ratio of 30 dB is achieved due to the all-polarization-maintaining configuration and the polarization dependence gain of Raman scattering. Single-pass frequency doubling with a homemade periodically poled near-stoichiometric LiT alpha O-3 crystal (PPSLT) produces an up to 7 W narrow-linewidth laser at 589 nm. The thermally induced dephasing effect is found to be the key issue for improving second-harmonic efficiency. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America

Abstract:Highly efficient frequency doubling of a continuous-wave Yb-doped fiber laser with a passively-locked enhancement cavity is achieved. The increase in efficiency is a result of improved transverse mode matching between the fiber and doubling cavities, which is enabled by an alignment method presented here. An optical conversion efficiency as high as 36.8% from a launched 976nm diode pump to a 532 nm green laser is obtained. The maximum 532 nm output is 24.5 W, which is limited by the onset of parasitic oscillations in the fiber laser.

Abstract:We report low pump power high-efficiency frequency doubling of a fundamental laser beam at 795 nm, corresponding to the rubidium D1 line, to generate UV light at 397.5 nm using a periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystal in a ring cavity. We obtain maximum stable output power of 49 mW for mode-matching pump power of 110 mW, corresponding to 45% raw efficiency (56% net efficiency when considering the output coupling mirror's 80% transmission). This is the highest efficiency obtained at this wavelength in PPKTP with such low pump power. We obtain 80% beam coupling efficiency to single-mode fiber, demonstrating high beam quality.

Abstract:An LD pumped YAG-KTP intracavity frequency doubling laser has been developed. A cw linearly polarized green laser at 532 nm is obtained. The pumping threshold, output power, and slope efficiency are 12 mW, 2.5 mW, and 5%, respectively. The influence of the states of pump light on transverse modes of the frequency doubling laser has been studied. The experimental methods and results are reported briefly.

Abstract:447.3 nm blue light generation was demonstrated through direct frequency doubling a continuous-wave Cesium vapor lasers 894.6 nm output using a PPKTP nonlinear crystal. The diode-pumped Cs vapor laser has an output power as large as 10 W with a very narrow emission linewidth less than 10 GHz. The PPKTP crystal is about 30 mm long and has a moderate acceptance wavelength bandwidth. The second harmonic wave generation efficiency achieved is about 4.4 %/W. Power depletion in second harmonic pulses, which relates to the absorption related thermal effects, was observed when using high pump power, long pulse duration, or high repetition rate.

Abstract:This paper studies the frequency doubling of femtosecond laser pulses with a wavelength of 790 nm using a 2 mm thick KDP crystal. The energy conversion efficiency is better than 40% after the energy and chirp of the fundamental harmonic are optimized. Moreover, the frequency doubling is analyzed as a function of laser pulse frequency chirp. It is found that the frequency doubling conversion efficiency reaches a maximum when there is no frequency chirp; for the same grating position, the frequency conversion efficiency is better by using positively chirped fundamental laser pulses than by using negatively chirped pulses.

Abstract:We demonstrate a simple, compact and cost-efficient diode laser pumped frequency doubling system at 795 nm in the low power regime. In two configurations, a bow-tie four-mirror ring enhancement cavity with a PPKTP crystal inside and a semi-monolithic PPKTP enhancement cavity, we obtain 397.5nm ultra-violet coherent radiation of 35mW and 47mW respectively with a mode-matched fundamental power of about 110mW, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 32% and 41%. The low loss semi-monolithic cavity leads to the better results. The constructed ultra-violet coherent radiation has good power stability and beam quality, and the system has huge potential in quantum optics and cold atom physics.

Abstract:In order to compare and select the technology of locking frequency of pump source, by using intra-modulation technology and Pound-Drever-Hall ( PDH ) technology separately, and choosing periodically poled KTP ( PPKTP ) crystal as nonlinear crystal, stable frequency operation of 894. 6nm continuous light two-mirror standing wave frequency doubling cavity was realized. The results show that frequency doubling cavity has the same blue light power output using two locking technologies and under different input light powers. 447. 3nm blue light of 178mW is obtained when the maximum fundamental light power of 350mW and the corresponding conversion efficiency is 50. 8%. Under the condition of the maximum fundamental power, the power fluctuation of blue light obtained by intra-modulation technology and PDH technology are 3. 4% and 2. 3% in 2h respectively. The research is helpful for preparing stable output of 447. 3nm blue light to obtain nonclassical light source at D1 line of cesium atom.

Abstract:The periodically poled LiTaO3 frequency-doubling broad-band and quasi-cw lasers of seeded ytterbium-doped double-clad fiber amplifier have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. PPLT is 40 mm long and 7.67 μm in period. The central wavelength of fundamental laser is 1.064 μm and 6 nm in bandwidth. Applying the quasi-phase matching theory and the character of fundamental laser spectrum, the relation of second harmonic power with the temperature was explained. The frequency-doubling efficiency of 1.8% is obtained when the broad band laser power is 2.2 W.

Abstract:The system of LD pumped solid-state laser is designed.LD pumped Nd∶YAG/KTP intracavity frequency doubling CW green laser is studied on its output characteristics,optical-to-optical conversion efficiency and output power stability.The effectiveness of changing the laser's mode by tilting the reflector is verified.TEM00 continuous green laser is obtained,the ellipticity of the output beam is 0.96.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate the effects of pump power and polarization state on the evolution of bright-dark pulses (BDPs) in a figure-eight passively mode-locked thulium/holmium co-doped fiber laser (THDFL) using nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) technology. As the pump power increases from 0.5 W to 1 W, the BDPs are separated and exhibit a linear increase in the time interval between the bright pulse (BP) and dark pulse (DP), which roughly corresponds to the reciprocal of the modulation frequency in the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. Additionally, the polarization state in the cavity is altered by adjusting the polarization controller (PC), and the central wavelength of spectrum, pulse waveform, and full width at half maximum ( FWHM ) of BDPs in different states are presented.

Abstract:We investigate the second harmonic generation of high-power laser pulses under quasi-phase-matched conditions in periodically poled materials. The local phase-mismatch existed in every single domain of a periodical structure is found to affect the performance of the doubling process. For frequency doubling of high-power femtosecond pulses, this effect can be so severe that back conversion occurs and the doubling efficiency drops dramatically. We also propose a method to suppress the undesired effects by introducing an overall phase-mismatch. The doubling efficiency and the quality of the second harmonic pulses are significantly improved by compensation between the local and overall phase mismatches. Furthermore, we show by numerical simulations that the pulse duration of the back-converted fundamental pulse can be reduced by a factor of two, resulting from the interplay of the phase mismatches and the existence of group-velocity mismatch between the fundamental and the harmonic.

Abstract:The relationship between the output frequency tripling (3ω) wavefront and the input fundamental laser (1ω) wavefront is researched in theory and experiment in the frequency conversion process based on type II/II KDP (KH2PO4) crystals. Theoretical results show the output 3ω wavefront distortion is three times of the input 1ω wavefront distortion on the phase-matching condition. The output 3ω and 1ω wavefront are measured by Hartman wavefront sensor in the high power frequency tripling laser system. Experimental results show that the output 3ω wavefront PV value is 2.97 times of the 1ω wavefront value and the output 3ω wavefront RMS value is 3.57 times of the 1ω wavefront value. Therefore, the theoretical relationship between the output 3ω wavefront and the input 1ω wavefront in the frequency conversion system is proved correct within the range of permitted experimental errors.

Abstract:Frequency doubling in an external cavity is a prevalent method to generate an ultra-violet laser at 397.5 nm.A semi-monolithic resonant frequency doubling cavity based on the PPKTP crystal is built and is used to realize the resonant frequency doubling of the 795 nm single frequency continuous-wave laser amplified via a semiconductor tapered amplifier.Under the condition of 203 mW input power of a 795 nm laser,the 397.5 nm single frequency continuous-wave ultra-violet laser with a power of 60.4 mW is obtained,and the frequency doubling conversion efficiency is 30％;and the maximum doubling efficiency is 34.6％ with a fundamental power of about 87.5 mW.The beam quality factor M2 of the frequency doubling ultra-violet laser is superior to 1.21,indicating the better beam quality.The typical root-mean-square fluctuation of the output power within 30 min is less than 1.9％.This frequency doubler is compact,has good mechanical stability,and can be used to achieve steady output of ultraviolet laser.The ultra-violet laser can be used to generate the squeezed or entangled states of the rubidium transition line,and plays an important role in the quantum optics,precise measurement and other fields.

Abstract:We describe the results of our efforts in suppressing spiking of a high power, high beam quality 1319 nm Nd: YAG microsecond-pulse laser with three different intracavity frequency doublers. The 1319 nm laser is generated by a quasi-continuous-wave diode-pumped Nd: YAG ring laser system. One potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP), two KTPs and one lithium triborate (LBO) as frequency doublers are installed in the ring resonator and tested, respectively. At 800 Hz repetition rate, with a pulse width of 100 mu s, performances of spiking suppression for each case are observed. The average output power are 23.6 W, 22.7 W and 23.4 W with beam quality factors of M-2 = 2.21, 1.28 and 1.25 for one KTP, two KTPs and one LBO, respectively. The corresponding brightness are 270 MW/(cm(2) . sr), 780 MW/(cm(2) . sr) and 860 MW/(cm(2) . sr). With better beam quality, higher brightness, and easier maintainability, the LBO is the best option of the three. A laser rate equation model including the insertion loss of the doubler is applied for theoretical analysis of the output temporal pulse shape and power, and the simulated results agree well with the experimental data.
