Abstract:We study the structure and dimension of the spectrum of one-dimensional Schrodinger operators with Sturmian potentials. For this purpose we introduce the class of recurrent Moran sets which are generalizations of the well-known self-similar fractals.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the spectrality of a class of Moran measures $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ on $\mathbb{R}$ generated by $\{(p_n,\mathcal{D}_n)\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$, where $\mathcal{P}=\{p_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is a sequence of positive integers with $p_n>1$ and $\mathcal{D}=\{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is a sequence of digit sets of $\mathbb{N}$ with the cardinality $\#\mathcal{D}_{n}\in \{2,3,N_{n}\}$. We find a countable set $\Lambda\subset\mathbb{R}$ such that the set $\{e^{-2\pi i \lambda x}|\lambda\in\Lambda\}$ is a orthonormal basis of $L^{2}(\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}})$ under some conditions. As an application, we show that when $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ is absolutely continuous, $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ not only is a spectral measure, but also its support set tiles $\mathbb{R}$ with $\mathbb{Z}$.

Abstract:Summary. We compute the Hausdorff dimension and the packing dimension of subsets of Moran fractals with prescribed mixed group frequencies. For example, if E denotes the set of real numbers x in [0, 1] for which the group of digits 1, 2, 3, 4 in the decimal expansion of x occurs with relative frequency t_1 ∈ [0, 1] and the group of digits 0, 1, 2, 8, 9 in the decimal expansion of x occurs with relative frequency t_2 ∈ [0, 1] , then our results shows that dim_ H E = dim_ P E = - 1/log 10 log ( t^t_1_1 t^t_2_2 (1 - t_1)^1-t_1 (1 - t_2)^1-t_2/2^t_13^1-t_1) , where dim H denotes the Hausdorff dimension and dim P denotes the packing dimension. Observe that the two groups of digits with prescribed frequencies, namely 1, 2, 3, 4 and 0, 1, 2, 8, 9, are mixed , i.e. they are not disjoint. Previous work [LD, O1, V] has investigated the non-mixed case. In this paper we investigate the more difficult problem of finding the Hausdorff dimension and packing dimension of subsets of Moran fractals with prescribed mixed group frequencies.

Abstract:In the paper, we investigate the fine multifractal spectrum of a class of self-affine Moran sets with fixed frequencies, and we prove that under certain separation conditions, the fine multifractal spectrum $H(\alpha)$ is given by the formula $$ H(\alpha)=\inf_{-\infty<t<+\infty} \{\alpha t+\beta(t)\}. $$

Abstract:Intermediate dimensions are a class of new fractal dimensions which provide a spectrum of dimensions interpolating between the Hausdorff and box-counting dimensions. In this paper, we study the intermediate dimensions of Moran sets. Moran sets may be regarded as a generalization of self-similar sets generated by using different class of similar mappings at each level with unfixed translations, and this causes the lack of ergodic properties on Moran set. Therefore, the intermediate dimensions do not necessarily exist, and we calculate the upper and lower intermediate dimensions of Moran sets. In particular, we obtain a simplified intermediate dimension formula for homogeneous Moran sets. Moreover, we study the visualization of the upper intermediate dimensions for some homogeneous Moran sets, and we show that their upper intermediate dimensions are given by Mobius transformations.

Abstract:The determination of the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator is a fundamental problem in mathematical quantum mechanics. We discuss a series of results showing that Schrödinger operators can exhibit spectra that are remarkably thin in the sense of Lebesgue measure and fractal dimensions. We begin with a brief discussion of results in the periodic theory, and then move to a discussion of aperiodic models with thin spectra.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a systematic framework to study the dispersion surfaces of Schrödinger operators $ -\Delta + V$, where the potential $V \in C^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n,\mathbb{R})$ is periodic with respect to a lattice $\Lambda \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ and respects the symmetries of $\Lambda$. Our analysis relies on an abstract result, that expands on a seminal work of Fefferman--Weinstein \cite{feffer12}: if an operator depends analytically on a parameter, then so do its eigenvalues and eigenprojectors away from a discrete set. As an application, we describe the generic structure of some singularities in the band spectrum of Schrödinger operators invariant under the three-dimensional simple, body-centered and face-centered cubic lattices.

Abstract:Let be a compatible tower on and let be the Moran measure generated by infinite convolutions of discrete measures induced by them. In this paper, we first prove that under certain situations, the compatible tower condition can ensure that is a spectral measure, that is the Hilbert space admits an exponential orthonormal basis. Furthermore, if we restrict to be a class of generalized Sierpinski-type family, then we obtain that the existence of compatible tower and the spectrality of are equivalent.

Abstract:It is well known that the open set condition and the positivity of the $t$-dimensional Hausdorff measure are equivalent on self-similar sets, where $t$ is the zero of the topological pressure. We prove an analogous result for a class of Moran constructions and we study different kinds of Moran constructions with this respect.

Abstract:The Kohmoto-Kadanoff-Tang renormalisation-group method is extended to deal with the electronic properties of a class of one-dimensional quasiperiodic lattices. A unified trace map is obtained and it is shown that the energy spectra of the quasiperiodic lattices are Cantor-like, that is the spectra are self-similar and the energy gaps in the spectra are densely populated.

Abstract:In the paper, we define a class of new fractals named ``non-autonomous attractors", which are the generalization of classic Moran sets and attractors of iterated function systems. Simply to say, we replace the similarity mappings by contractive mappings and remove the separation assumption in Moran structure. We give the dimension estimate for non-autonomous attractors. Furthermore, we study a class of non-autonomous attractors, named `` non-autonomous affine sets or affine sets'', where the contractions are restricted to affine mappings. To study the dimension theory of such fractals, we define two critical values $s^*$ and $s_A$, and the upper box-counting dimensions and Hausdorff dimensions of non-autonomous affine sets are bounded above by $s^*$ and $s_A$, respectively. Unlike self-affine fractals where $s^*=s_A$, we always have that $s^*\geq s_A$, and the inequality may strictly hold. Under certain conditions, we obtain that the upper box-counting dimensions and Hausdorff dimensions of non-autonomous affine sets may equal to $s^*$ and $s_A$, respectively. In particular, we study non-autonomous affine sets with random translations, and the Hausdorff dimensions of such sets equal to $s_A$ almost surely.

Abstract:We study the fractal dimension of the spectrum of a quasiperiodical Schrodinger operator associated to a sturmian potential. We consider potential defined with irrationnal number verifying a generic diophantine condition. We recall how shape and box dimension of the spectrum is linked to the irrational number properties. In the first place, we give general lower bound of the box dimension of the spectrum, true for all irrational numbers. In the second place, we improve this lower bound for almost all irrational numbers. We finally recall dynamical implication of the first bound.

Abstract:We prove that the Beurling dimensions of the spectra for a class of Moran spectral measures are in 0 and their upper entropy dimensions. Moreover, for such a Moran spectral measure μ, we show that the Beurling dimension for the spectra of μ has the intermediate value property: let t be any value in 0 and the upper entropy dimension of μ, then there exists a spectrum whose Beurling dimension is t. In particular, this result settles affirmatively a conjecture involving spectral Bernoulli convolution in Fu et al. (2018) [20]. Furthermore, we prove that the set of the spectra whose Beurling dimensions are equal to any fixed value in 0 and dim ‾ e μ has the cardinality of the continuum.

Abstract:We consider discrete Schrödinger operators with pattern Sturmian potentials. This class of potentials strictly contains the class of Sturmian potentials, for which the spectral properties of the associated Schrödinger operators are well understood. In particular, it is known that for every Sturmian potential, the associated Schrödinger operator has zero-measure spectrum and purely singular continuous spectral measures. We conjecture that the same statements hold in the more general class of pattern Sturmian potentials. We prove partial results in support of this conjecture. In particular, we confirm the conjecture for all pattern Sturmian potentials that belong to the family of Toeplitz sequences.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the spectral properties of a family of discrete one‐dimensional quasi‐periodic Schrödinger operators (depending on a phase theta). In large disorder, under some suitable conditions on v and a diophantine rotation number, we prove using basically KAM theory that the spectrum of this operator is pure point for all θ∈[0,2π) with exponential decaying eigenfunctions.
