Abstract:A new method for the fabrication of monodispersed Cu nanoparticles on electrode surface was explored, and a novel electrochemical sensor for the sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was constructed by assembling copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) on the precursor film poly-p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (poly-ABSA) electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The assembly process consisted of two steps: the ion-exchange and coordination of Cu2+ with the sulfonic groups contained in poly-ABSA film, and the subsequent in-situ reduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu-NPs by electrochemical method. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that Cu-NPs were highly monodispersed in whole poly-ABSA, which was strongly attached to the electrode surface. The modified electrode Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE was also characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 with high stability. Amperometry was used for the determination of H2O2 at a more positive potential of -0.2 V versus Ag/AgCl in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution, with a linear range from 0.2 mu M to 2.32 mM and a detection limit of 0.1 mu M. The Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE allowed sensitive, stable and fast amperometric sensing of H2O2, and this was promising for the development of nonenzymatic sensors. The analysis of medical disinfection solution real samples was performed using the proposed method, and the obtained results were satisfactory. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Hydrolysis-Induced Cu2O Networks and the Triggered Peroxidase-Mimic Activity by Cr6+ under Neutral Conditions.

Abstract:The current small-scale synthesis and relatively large size of Cu2O have limited its practical applications. Herein, we developed a hydrolysis strategy to prepare phase-pure Cu2O networks composed of small granules (ca. 25 nm) on a gram scale. The preparation involves in situ hydrolyzing the Hx[CuxCl2x] complexes prereduced in N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF). The DMF-soluble Hx[CuxCl2x] complexes are critical for the homogeneous nucleation of CuCl seeds and subsequent hydrolysis, allowing for separate control over the nucleation and growth stages to regulate the formation of Cu2O networks. The novel Cu2O networks possess numerous exposed active sites and hierarchical porosities, conferring high catalytic activity and fast mass transfer capability. The inherent peroxidase-mimic activity of Cu2O is severely inhibited under neutral conditions but can be triggered by Cr6+, enabling the colorimetric assay of Cr6+ with the assistance of the oxidation-induced color change of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine. Through density functional theory calculation, we confirmed that the attachment of Cr6+ on the Cu2O surface reduced the dissociation energy of H2O2, enhancing the enzyme-mimic activity. The colorimetric detection method demonstrated a sensitive and specific assay capability for Cr6+ (LOD = 0.095 μM). Our work offers a straightforward protocol for novel design of metal or metal-based nanomaterials for nanozymes or other applications.
High catalytic performance non-enzymatic H2O2 sensor based on Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres

Abstract:It is urgent to develop highly active catalysts toward hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor in many industrial and biological processes, which usually is limited by high cost of instrumentation requirements and low-accuracy detection at low level. Herein, Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres has been synthesized via a facial wet chemical method and applied as electrocatalyst for non-enzymatic H2O2 sensor. These Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres with mean sizes of 230 nm consisting of Cu2O conductive core and Cu9S5 shell show numerous advantageous characteristics of well-sustained structural integrity, the homogeneous particle size distribution and visible mesoporosity morphology. The significantly improved electrocatalytic activity by catalyzing H2O2 of the Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres as a sensor has been obtained by comparing with those neat Cu2O nanospheres and Cu9S5 hollow nanospheres. This noticeable property is largely due to the synergistic catalysis effect of the contribution of the Cu2O and Cu9S5. Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres based non-enzymatic H2O2 sensor displays the relatively wide linear range from 0.1 μM to 3.5 mM with a high sensitivity of 299.74 μA mM−1 cm−2 but low detection limit of 28.83 nM (S/N ≥ 3) for electrochemical detection of H2O2, which is potentially superior to other similar Cu2O-based sensors that has been reported in the literatures. Additionally, this sensor also demonstrates excellent selectivity of H2O2 in the presence of various coactive interferences. This novel Cu2O@Cu9S5 yolk-shell nanospheres electrocatalyst provides a broad application prospect for H2O2 sensing.

Abstract:Small-sized freestanding Co3O4 nanosheets have been successfully synthesized on conductive substrate via a novel and simple electrochemical-based strategy. The as-synthesized sheets have a small size of 30 +/- 10 nm in edge length and about 10 +/- 5 nm in thickness with most sheets lying perpendicular to the substrate. The combined properties of products such as small size, two-dimension shape and freestanding pose could lead to integrative advantages of high surface-to-volume ratio, the maximized exposed surfaces without particles aggregation, strong affinity and good conductivity. As for electrochemical tests, the as-synthesized Co3O4 nanosheets show an improved sensitivity of similar to 0.56 A M-1 cm(-2) with lower detection limit of 1 mu M at concentration range of 0-1.8 mM for H2O2 sensing, and also exhibit good performance for oxygen evolution with low evolution over-potential, high catalytic efficiency and durable stability. Abstract:H2O2 as an important intermediary is becoming more widely acknowledged, and interest in its detection has increased significantly. Herein, we developed a hollow cubic CeO2/Co(3)O(4 )heterostructure and further employed as non-enzymatic H2O2 detection sensor through a series of facile synthesis strategies using cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework as a template. The synthesized CeO2/Co(3)O(4 )with huge cavity structure offers numerous electrocatalytic active sites for the target analyte, thus endowing its high sensitivity (60.5 mu A. mM(-1 )cm (-2)), excellent selectivity, broad detection range for H2O2 (10 mu M (-1) mM), and favorable working potential (-0.45 V). Not only that the CeO2/Co3O4 sensor achieved satisfactory recovery and accuracy in real lake-water samples.
Co3V2O8 nanoparticle-assembled porous sphere as a new electrocatalyst for sensitive nonenzymatic sensing of H2O2

Abstract:The development of new highly active electrocatalysts is one of the key factors to improve the performance of enzyme-free electrochemical sensors. In this paper, Co3V2O8 was proposed as a new electrocatalyst for nonenzymatic oxidation of H2O2. A facile self-templating strategy was adopted for the synthesis of Co3V2O8 nanomaterial which was further characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), powder X-ray diffractometry (XRD), fourier translation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electrochemical techniques. The results showed that porous Co3V2O8 sphere was constructed from interconnected nanoparticle with a three-dimensional porous structure. Such unique structure made the sensor based on Co3V2O8 exhibit good electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 oxidation, and could detect H2O2 with a low detection limit of 0.34 μM, a wide linear range of 2.0 μM to 6.1 mM and a high sensitivity of 541.4 μA mM−1 cm−2. This work demonstrated an effective new sensing platform for nonenzymatic detection of H2O2.

Abstract:In the present work, ultrafine Cu 2 O nanoparticles decorated MnO 2 nanocomposite (Cu 2 O@MnO 2 ) was prepared by the in-situ growth method. The morphologies of nanomaterials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. The poor electrical conductivity of MnO 2 nanosheets and the severe aggregation of Cu 2 O nanoparticles could be sufficiently overcome through the formation of nanocomposite. The electrochemical results proved that the Cu 2 O@MnO 2 nanocomposite exhibited a better electrocatalytic effect towards the reduction of H 2 O 2 than pure MnO 2 nanosheets and Cu 2 O nanoparticles due to the synergistic effect between these materials. Under the optimal condition, H 2 O 2 could be detected in the range of 0.5–20 μM with a detection limit of 0.2 μM. The modified electrode exhibited satisfactory stability and reproducibility, and could be used to detect H 2 O 2 in real sample. The results revealed that nanocomposites containing different metal oxides owned great potential application in designing high performance non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors.

Facile Synthesis of Ag@Cu2O Heterogeneous Nanocrystals Decorated N-doped Reduced Graphene Oxide with Enhanced Electrocatalytic Activity for Ultrasensitive Detection of H2O2

Abstract:A nanohybrid composed of Ag@Cu2O heterogeneous nanocrystals supported on N-doped reduced graphene oxide (Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO) has been synthesized by a simple wet-chemical method. The resultant composite consists of N-RGO sheets fully and homogeneously coated with a dense layer of Ag@Cu2O nanocrystals. Both Ag and N-RGO are in direct contact with Cu2O, and Ag nanoparticles with sizes of 2-5 nm are mainly deposited on the surface of Cu2O cubes (edge length of 500 nm). The electrochemical studies reveal that the ternary Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO composite exhibit significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity for H2O2 sensing compared with either the single component (N-RGO) or two component systems (Cu2O/N-RGO and Ag/N-RGO), which is mainly due to the synergetic catalysis of the ternary system. The nonenzymatic sensor based on Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO composite shows overwhelmingly superior comprehensive performance for the H2O2 detection over the documented Ag-based sensors. More specifically, it displays a rapid response (10 s) to H2O2 over a wide linear range of 54-700 nM with a high sensitivity of 1298.3 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) and a low detection limit of 10 nM. Moreover, the sensor also exhibits the preferable selectivity in the presence of biologically coactive compounds accompanied with long-term stability and good reproducibility. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Introducing Pt-based bimetallic nanocrystals into biosensors as a modifying agent has aroused immense interests to develop advanced non-enzymatic sensors for detecting H2O2. In this study, Pt-Cu alloy octahedra with controlled compositions are prepared through a facile method serving as a modifying agent in biosensors for H2O2 detection. The formation of Pt-Cu octahedra is achieved by simultaneous reduction of H2PtCl6 and CuCl2 by using N, N-dimethylformamide without addition of any other capping agents. A key to the synthesis of Pt-Cu octahedra is the introduction of Cl- ions, which can act as a dynamic template to facilitate the preferential overgrowth and accelerate the overall reduction kinetics. Compare to commercial Pt/C and spherical Pt-Cu nanoparticles, the Pt-Cu octahedra modified biosensors show substantially enhanced activity towards H2O2 detection due to the unique synergetic effect between Pt and Cu and surface structure. Specifically, the electrode modified by Pt55Cu45 octahedra achieves the highest sensitivity and best selectivity in neutral solution with a detection limit of 0.17 mu M. (c) 2019 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:In this study, a sensitive and stable electrochemical sensor based on CuO-CeO2/MXene is constructed for the continuous detection of H2O2. CuO-CeO2 nanomaterials are applied as a catalyst to promote the electrolysis of H2O2 on the electrode surface as well as amplify the reduction current for the aim of H2O2 detection. MXene serves as a catalyst carrier for CuO-CeO2 and enhances the electron transfer rate during the reduction process of H2O2. Furthermore, the generation of hydroxyl radical during the decomposition of H2O2 is demonstrated by UV–vis spectrum and first-principles calculation to explore the reaction mechanism. The electrolysis rate of H2O2 is obtained as 0.61 × 103 M−1 s−1 by chronoamperometry. Based on the good properties, the electrochemical sensor fabricated by CuO-CeO2/MXene exhibits high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility. A good linear relationship is ranged from 5.0 μM to 100 μM with a low detection limit of 1.67 μM for H2O2 detection. Besides, the current signal is stable and reproducible when continuously testing H2O2 content, which can calculate a reliable H2O2 concentration value for practical application. The proposed approach sheds light on the rational design and assembly of electrochemical sensors and its relevant catalytic mechanism study.

An electrochemical sensor based on FeCo bimetallic single-atom nanozyme for sensitive detection of H 2 O 2

Abstract:Efficient catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 is accompanied by electron transfer through Fe-N x active sites of hemin in the human body. Inspired by this reaction process, the Fe SAs/Co CNs were successfully synthesized by combined Co atomic sites with nitrogen-carbon doped Fe single-atom active sites (SAs). The synergy between transition metals not only reduces agglomeration during synthesis but also improves its own electrical conductivity due to the interaction between Fe and Co that promotes the formation of graphite surface. Crucially, the synergistic effect of the Co site significantly enhanced the peroxidase activity of the Fe SAs and the reaction rate of the Fenton-like reaction, resulting in an efficient detection of H 2 O 2 . Catalytic kinetic calculations and enzymatic kinetic calculations were used to verify the electron transfer rate and catalytic performance of their constructed electrochemical sensing interfaces. The results showed that Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE showed better detection performance than Fe SAs CNs@GCE. It was applied successfully to detect H 2 O 2 released from cells in real-time as well. The linear detection range of Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE for H 2 O 2 was 1–16664 μM, and the detection limit was as low as 0.25 μM. Furthermore, an electrochemical sensing chip was constructed using Fe SAs/Co CNs@SPE and the prepared microfluidic channel. The constructed portable FeSAs/Co CNs@SPE had a linear range of 1–400 μM and a detection limit of 0.36 μM and achieved the recovery detection of H 2 O 2 in serum. The electrochemical sensing interfaces constructed based on Fe SAs/Co CNs all have efficient catalytic performance and excellent real-time hydrogen peroxide detection performance, which have practical application potential for human oxidative stress level detection. And it provides a novel approach to the trace detection of bioactive small molecules.

Abstract:Cuprous oxide/silver (Cu2O/Ag) nanocomposites were prepared via a facile one-step method and used to construct an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection. In this method, AgNO3 and Cu(NO3)2 were reduced to Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites by glucose in the presence of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) at a low temperature. The optimum condition was the molar ratio of silver nitrate and copper nitrate of 1:10, the temperature of 50 °C. Under this condition, Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites were obtained with uniformly distributed and tightly combined Cu2O and Ag nanoparticles. The size of Cu2O particles was less than 100 nm and that of Ag particles was less than 20 nm. Electrochemical experiments indicate that the Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites-based sensor possesses an excellent performance toward H2O2, showing a linear range of 0.2 to 4000 μM, a high sensitivity of 87.0 μA mM−1 cm−2, and a low detection limit of 0.2 μM. The anti-interference capability experiments indicate this sensor has good selectivity toward H2O2. Additionally, the H2O2 recovery tests of the sensor in diluted milk solution signify its potential application in routine H2O2 analysis.

Abstract:Cuprous oxide (Cu2O), an earth-abundant, low-cost metal-oxide semiconductor, has received enormous attention for its CO2 reduction ability in aqueous media by photochemical, photoelectrochemical and electrochemical methods. An unresolved problem with all of these approaches, however, is the instability of the Cu2O caused by its tendency to undergo an irreversible redox disproportionation reaction. Here, we report a way to circumvent this troublesome behaviour of Cu2O by driving the CO2 reduction in the gas-phase via heterogeneous photocatalytic hydrogenation. To this end, Cu2O nanocubes with surfaces comprising mixed oxidation-state copper Cu(0,I,II) sites, oxygen vacancies [O] and hydroxyl OH groups were synthesized. These surfaces enable heterolysis of H2 and adsorption of CO2 under mild conditions; they facilitate the reverse water–gas shift reaction, while rendering the redox disproportionation reaction reversible. This synergism provides Cu2O nanocubes with high photocatalytic activity and stability.

Abstract:An Fe-MOF (metal-organic framework)/reduce graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposite was formed by using an efficient synthetic method. The morphology and structure of the Fe-MOF/rGO nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Fe- MOF/rGO nanocomposites were immobilized on a carbon paste electrode (CPE) to construct a highperformance nonenzymatic electrochemical H2O2 sensor. A cyclic voltammetry (CV) study showed that the Fe-MOF/rGO nanocomposites displayed better electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 reduction compared to that of Fe-MOF. An amperometric study indicated that the H2O2 sensor displayed high performance, which offered a low detection limit (0.5 μM), a high sensitivity (5.17 pA mM-1 cm-2), and a wide linear range (from 5.0 to 945 pM). An electrochemical reaction mechanism was proposed for H2O2 reduction on the Fe-MOF/rGO/CPE. Importantly, the as-fabricated H2O2 sensor exhibited good reproducibility and excellent selectivity. Furthermore, the constructed high-performance sensor was utilized to monitor the H2O2 levels in real samples, and satisfactory results were obtained. These results demonstrated that the Fe-MOF/rGO nanocomposite can be used as a good electrochemical sensor material in practical applications.

Abstract:Here, we design and synthesize a novel 2D Cu-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) metal–organic framework (MOF) sheet and ultrasmall Cu5.4O nanoparticle (Cu5.4O USNP) hybrid (Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite). The graphene-like ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF sheets offer high surface-to-volume atom ratios and many active sites, which is beneficial for loading more Cu5.4O USNPs. The Cu5.4O USNPs with ultrasmall size (<5 nm) have promising conductivity and excellent enzymatic ability for H2O2. The successfully prepared nanocomposites are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) techniques. The 2D graphene-like ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF sheets show no H2O2-sensing signals, whereas Cu5.4O USNPs exhibit a clear reduction peak for detection of H2O2. Interestingly, the combination of two kinds of nanomaterials improved the H2O2 sensing ability due to their synergistic effect. The properties of the unmodified electrodes and the Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite-modified electrodes were systemically studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), current-time (i-t) response, and square-wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 based on the Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite has a lower detection limit of 0.13 μmol·L−1 and wider linear range of 0.1 × 10−6 ~ 0.59 × 10−3 mol·L−1 and 1.59 × 10−3 ~ 20.59 × 10−3 mol·L−1 when compared with the Cu5.4O USNPs-modified electrode. The electrochemical sensor can be further used to detect H2O2 produced by cells.

Abstract:Main observation and conclusion Cu-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are regarded as promising sensing materials, which have abundant metal sites, large surface area and simple synthesis processes. In this work, a novel three-dimensional flower-like Cu-MOF was synthesized, which was combined with ultra-thin MXene nanosheets to construct a novel electrochemical sensor for H2O2. During the electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2, the catalytic activity of Cu-MOF/MXene/GCE results in the ultra-sensitive detection of H2O2 owing to the structure properties of MOFs, the nature of Cu-contained nanomaterials as well as the high electrical conductivity of MXene. The Cu-MOF/MXene/GCE showed a wide linear range from 1 mu mol/L to 6.12 mmol/L using chronoamperometry at the detection potential of -0.35 V, and the detection limit is estimated to be 0.35 mu mol/L. The sensor also shows good anti-interference due to the lower detection potential, specific catalysis of Cu-MOF to H2O2, which promises the sensor good selectivity in complexed samples. Meanwhile, the electrochemical sensor is capable to detect H2O2 in milk and serum samples with satisfactory recoveries. The ultra-sensitivity, rapid detection, and easy operation of the proposed sensor present significant prospect for real-time analysis and monitoring of H2O2 in foods and biological samples.
Synthesis of honeycomb Ag@CuO nanoparticles and their application as a highly sensitive and electrocatalytically active hydrogen peroxide sensor material

Abstract:Copper acetate/silver nitrate/polyvinylpyrrolidone was first prepared into nano-hybrid silver-doped copper oxide by electrospinning, and then nano-honeycomb particles were produced through heat-treatment. For the first time, honeycomb Ag@CuO nanoparticles were prepared by electrospinning, and a H2O2 sensor was constructed by modifying the carbon paste electrode (CPE) with the honeycomb Ag@CuO nanoparticles. This work performed the structural, morphological, and phase analysis of the Ag@CuO nanoparticles by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicated the synthesis of Ag@CuO hybrid nanoparticles with high purity, and cyclic voltammetry and amperometry show that the Ag@CuO modified electrode has high electrocatalytic performances with fast voltammetric responses and a notably decreased overpotential compared to that of even the CuO modified CPE. In addition, the Ag/CuO-CPE based H2O2 sensor has the highest sensitivity of 1982.14 μA (mmol L-1)-1 cm-2, the lowest detection limit of 0.01 μmol L-1 ((S/N) = 3), and the measured linear response for H2O2 oxidation ranged from 0.05 μmol L-1 to 100 μmol L-1 and 100 μmol L-1 to 1.5 mmol L-1. The proposed method was applied to the determination of H2O2 in coconut fruit samples from canned coconut, and the satisfactory results confirmed the applicability of this sensor in practical analysis.
Interfacial Engineering of Hierarchical Transition Metal Oxide Heterostructures for Highly Sensitive Sensing of Hydrogen Peroxide.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a major messenger molecule in cellular signal transduction. Direct detection of H2O2 in complex environments provides the capability to illuminate its various biological functions. With this in mind, a novel electrochemical approach is here proposed by integrating a series of CoO nanostructures on CuO backbone at electrode interfaces. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrate successful formation of core-shell CuO-CoO hetero-nanostructures. Theoretical calculations further confirm energy-favorable adsorption of H2O2 on surface sites of CuO-CoO heterostructures. Contributing to the efficient electron transfer path and enhanced capture of H2O2 in the unique leaf-like CuO-CoO hierarchical 3D interface, an optimal biosensor-based CuO-CoO-2.5 h electrode exhibits an ultrahigh sensitivity (6349 mu A m m(-1) cm(-2)), excellent selectivity, and a wide detection range for H2O2, and is capable of monitoring endogenous H2O2 derived from human lung carcinoma cells A549. The synergistic effects for enhanced H2O2 adsorption in integrated CuO-CoO nanostructures and performance of the sensor suggest a potential for exploring pathological and physiological roles of reactive oxygen species like H2O2 in biological systems.
