Abstract:Copper nanoparticles embedded in porous carbon composite (Cu-PC) were prepared for the electrochemical detection of glucose and H2O2 via one-step carbonization of copper 1, 3, 5-benzenetricarboxylate (HKUST-1). The structure and chemical constitution of the composite were studied carefully by various characterization techniques. The results showed that the fine porosity and the uniformly distributed copper nanoparticles of octahedral Cu-PC obtained at 800 & DEG;C (Cu-PC-800) facilitate the electron and mass transfer and make it an excel-lent sensor for both glucose and H2O2. As for glucose, the detection linear range is 0.5 -3850 & mu;M, and the detection limit is 0.23 & mu;M. Meanwhile, Cu-PC-800 can efficiently detect H2O2 in an alkaline solution with a wide linear range (5 -4600 & mu;M), and a low detection limit of 1.9 & mu;M. Furthermore, the fabricated Cu-PC -800 sensor achieved the determination of glucose and H2O2 in human serum and hydrogen peroxide bacterio-static lotion, respectively.

Abstract:In this study, we reported a highly sensitive nonenzymatic glucose sensor based on Cu/Cu2O composite nanoparticles (Cu/Cu2O NPs) decorated on a single carbon fiber (SCF) by direct in-situ electrochemical cyclic voltammetry deposition. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study of the Cu/Cu2O NPs/SCF electrodes displayed a porous structure of Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles with an average size of around 30 nm, which greatly increased the surface area of single carbon fiber and provided a large number of catalysis sites towards glucose oxidation. The electrochemical behavior of Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles was characterized by cyclic voltammetry and amperometry study, in which the as-prepared electrode displayed superior catalytic performance and exhibited an ultra-high sensitivity (28,071 uA mM(-1) cm(-2)) anda wide linear range up to 7.8 mM. The in-situ electrodeposition of Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles and excellent conductivity of carbon fiber improved the electron transfer rate due to direct electron collection and resulted in a short response time (<1 s). Additionally, the electrode also showed good reproducibility, outstanding anti-interference ability and long-time stability, as well as a reliable testing result in bovine serum sample, indicating a potential application in clinical diagnosis and health monitoring.

Abstract:Copper (Cu) based metal oxides have high electrocatalytic ability. In this work, we are synthesized stone-like cuprous oxide particles (Cu2O SNPs) covered on acid functionalized graphene oxide (GOS) sheets using ultrasonic process (50 kHz and 100 W). Besides, the chemical structural and crystalline analyses of Cu2O composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The Cu2O nanomaterials were tested towards detection of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in biological samples. As expected Cu2O catalyst modified electrodes performed an outstanding catalytic ability on 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine oxidation. 8-OHdG is oxidative stress biomarker. Further, it is noted that the detection performance of Cu2O coated electrodes and it's highly enhanced due to the synergistic effect of Cu2O SNPs and GOS. Besides, the modified materials provide more electro-active faces and as well as rapid electron transport pathway and shorten diffusion. Moreover, oxidation of 8-OHdG sensor is exploring a long linear or working range of 0.02 – 1465 µM and high sensitivity (8.75 nM). The viability of the Cu2O proposed electrochemical methods have tested, to find out 8-OHdG concentrations in biological fluids (blood serum and urine) with a satisfying recovery ranges.

Abstract:The controllable morphology engineering of active electrode materials is an effective strategy to obtain high performance non-enzymatic glucose sensing. Herein, different morphologic cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O nanospheres, nanocubes and microcubes) were controllably prepared by wet-chemistry precipitation technique through adjusting the OH − concentration. The growth and evolution mechanism of Cu 2 O at different OH − concentrations were extensively studied. Electrochemical testing revealed that Cu 2 O nanospheres had the highest sensitivity of 1438 μA mM −1 cm −2 and the lowest detection limit of 0.17 μM (S/N = 3), making them the best choice for glucose sensing. Additionally, the glucose detection range spanned two orders of concentration magnitude (0.5 μM–1.332 mM and 1.332 mM–3.832 mM), and the sensor displayed excellent anti-interference ability, reproducibility, and long-term stability. The electrode material also performed well in detecting glucose in real serum samples, indicating its practical applicability as a non-enzymatic sensor.

Abstract:An electrochemical sensor was developed for the detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), utilizing the synergistic effects of graphene (Gr) and MOF-on-MOF nanozymes (FeCu-NZs). Initially, Fe-MOF with peroxide-like activity is synthesized using a solvothermal method. Subsequently, the organic ligand on its surface binds Cu2+, enhancing the enzyme-like activity further. The resulting FeCu-NZs exhibit a distinctive electrochemical signal in response to H2O2. Moreover, integrating FeCu-NZs with Gr significantly amplifies the electrochemical signal and effectively reduces the sensor's detection limit. The developed sensor exhibited linear ranges of 0.1-3800 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.06 μM. Additionally, FeCu-NZs catalyze H2O2 to generate abundant •OH radicals, and colorimetric detection of H2O2 is facilitated using the color rendering principle of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). Notably, this detection method was applied to determine H2O2 concentrations in real samples, achieving a recovery exceeding 95.7%. In summary, this research provides a practical platform for the construction of traditional nanozymes and the integration of electrochemical systems, which have broad applications in food analysis, environmental monitoring, and medical diagnosis.
Facile Synthesis of Ag@Cu2O Heterogeneous Nanocrystals Decorated N-doped Reduced Graphene Oxide with Enhanced Electrocatalytic Activity for Ultrasensitive Detection of H2O2

Abstract:A nanohybrid composed of Ag@Cu2O heterogeneous nanocrystals supported on N-doped reduced graphene oxide (Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO) has been synthesized by a simple wet-chemical method. The resultant composite consists of N-RGO sheets fully and homogeneously coated with a dense layer of Ag@Cu2O nanocrystals. Both Ag and N-RGO are in direct contact with Cu2O, and Ag nanoparticles with sizes of 2-5 nm are mainly deposited on the surface of Cu2O cubes (edge length of 500 nm). The electrochemical studies reveal that the ternary Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO composite exhibit significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity for H2O2 sensing compared with either the single component (N-RGO) or two component systems (Cu2O/N-RGO and Ag/N-RGO), which is mainly due to the synergetic catalysis of the ternary system. The nonenzymatic sensor based on Ag@Cu2O/N-RGO composite shows overwhelmingly superior comprehensive performance for the H2O2 detection over the documented Ag-based sensors. More specifically, it displays a rapid response (10 s) to H2O2 over a wide linear range of 54-700 nM with a high sensitivity of 1298.3 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) and a low detection limit of 10 nM. Moreover, the sensor also exhibits the preferable selectivity in the presence of biologically coactive compounds accompanied with long-term stability and good reproducibility. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Cu nanoparticle/graphene oxide/single walled carbon nanotube (CuNP/GO/SWCNT) composites were prepared by a facile electrodeposition method and used for constructing nonenzymatic glucose sensor. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy were employed to characterize the morphology and structures of the samples. The electrocatalytic performance of CuNP/GO/SWCNT composites towards glucose oxidation was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and current–time measurements. Electrochemical results indicated that CuNP/GO/SWCNT electrode exhibited a higher electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of glucose than CuNP, CuNP/GO and CuNP/SWCNT electrodes. This was because the GO/SWCNT composite as substrate material not only possessed excellent conductivity, but also provided large surface area for the high loading of the CuNPs. Meanwhile, the good dispersibility, independent and multi-layer structure of CuNP, could enhance the charge-transport properties, and afford more active sites for the catalytic oxidation of glucose. Under the optimized conditions, the sensor showed a high sensitivity of up to 930.07μAmM−1cm−2, with a wide linear range of 1μM to 4.538mM and a low detection limit of 0.34μM (S/N=3). It also exhibited excellent stability, reproducibility, selectivity, and reliable measurement in real human blood samples. All of these excellent properties made the CuNP/GO/SWCNT composite material promising for the development of effective nonenzymatic glucose sensors.
Graphene/Intermetallic PtPb Nanoplates Composites for Boosting Electrochemical Detection of H2O2Released from Cells

Abstract:Rational design and construction of electrocatalytic nanomaterials is vital for improving the sensitivity and selectivity of nonenzymatic electrochemical sensors. Here, we report a novel graphene supported intermetallic PtPb nanoplates (PtPb/G) nanocomposite as an enhanced electrochemical sensing platform for high-sensitivity detection of H2O2 in neutral solution and also released from the cells. The intermetallic PtPb nanoplates are first synthesized via a simple wet-chemistry process and subsequently assembled on graphene via a solution-phase self-assembly approach. The obtained nanocomposite exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity for the electrochemical reduction of H2O2 in a half-cell test and can detect H2O2 with a wide linear detection range of 2 nM to 2.5 mM and a very low detection limit of 2 nM. Under the same conditions, the sensitivity of PtPb/G for the detection of H2O2 is more than 12.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C. The high-density of electrocatalytic active sites on the unique PtPb nanoplates and the synergistic effect between PtPb nanoplates and graphene appear to be the main factors in contributing to the outstanding electroanalytical performance. The PtPb/G can be also used for the practical detection of H2O2 released from Raw 264.7 cells.

Abstract:Hollow mesoporous CuCo2O4 (meso-CuCo2O4) microspheres were successfully synthesized by decomposing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as the template. The as-prepared CuCo2O4 microspheres were first simultaneously used for H2O2 biosensing and glucose biofuel cell (GFC) as the enzyme mimic. The resulting of meso-CuCo2O4 displayed not only excellent catalytic performances to H2O2 including a super-fast response time (within 2s), a super-high sensitivity (654.23 μA mM-1 cm-2) and a super-low detection limit (3nM at S/N = 3) on the sensor, but also great values in GFC as anode material with an open circuit voltage of 0.85V, a maximum power density of 0.33 mWcm-2 and a limiting current density of 1.27 mAcm-2, respectively. The preeminent catalytic abilities to H2O2 and glucose may be attributed to the surpassing intrinsic catalytic activity of CuCo2O4 and large specific area of mesoporous structure. These significant findings deriving from this work not only provided a novel exploration for the fabrication of hollow spherical mesoporous bimetallic oxides, but also promoted the development of the supersensitive detection of H2O2 and non-enzymatic biofuel cell.

Abstract:Free-standing Cu/Cu2O/CuO modified by graphene was formed through two steps: Firstly, the commercial Cu foil was thermal annealed to form Cu/Cu2O/CuO; Secondly, the Cu/Cu2O/CuO was modified by graphene through electrochemical exfoliated method. The SEM, XRD, TEM and XPS have been used to characterize the morphology, the crystalline phase, and the surface composition of the hybrid electrode as-prepared. The effects of Cu and its oxides on graphene has been uncovered by the Raman results. The sensitivity of the glucose sensor in 0.1 M NaOH by using the as-prepared hybrid material reaches 3102μA·mM-1cm-2within a linear range of 0.002-2.88 mM, which is better than that of the Cu/graphene and the Cu/Cu2O/CuO prepared at the same conditions. The sensor also shows excellent anti-interference ability, good cycling stability and time stability. The advantage of the sensor is caused by the strengthened synergistic effects between the graphene and the Cu/Cu2O/CuO due to the alleviated detrimental effects of the metal on the property of the graphene through using oxides middle layer as well as the large active area that obtained. This work provides a new way to study the effects of graphene in improving the property of the metal oxide especially in using for glucose sensor.
Non-enzymatic Amperometric Glucose Sensor Based on Copper Nanowires Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide

Abstract:A nanocomposite consisting of one-dimensional copper nanowires and two-dimensional reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (CuNWs/rGO) was synthesized by a simple one-step wet-chemical synthetic process. The Cu NWs anchored onto the rGO nanosheets with wrinkles and folds had a smooth surface. The CuNWs/rGO hybrids exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward glucose oxidation due to the superior conductivity along one-dimensional direction and excellent catalytic activity of Cu NWs and rapid electron transfer in the two-dimensional rGO sheets. A wide linear range up to 11 mM, high sensitivity (1625 mu A/(mM.cm(2))), low detection limit (0.2 mu M) and fast response (< 2 s) to glucose oxidation were obtained under a working potential of 0.58V for the hybrid with optimized Cu/rGO mass ratio in the alkaline solution. Furthermore, the CuNWs/rGO composites displayed high selectivity to glucose and resistance against poisoning by commonly interfering species such as ascorbic acid, dopamine, uric acid, acetamidophenol and some carbohydrates. The CuNWs/rGO hybrids with good reproducibility, stability and poisoning resistance to chloride ions were therefore promising for the potential application as non-enzymatic amperometric glucose sensors with improved electrochemical performances.
Ag-Doped CuO Microflowers on Multilayer Graphene for a Highly Sensitive Non-Enzymatic Glucose Sensor

Abstract:In situ synthesis of Ag-doped CuO microflowers on multilayer graphene (MLG) and their application in non-enzymatic detection of glucose are studied here. Mechanically exfoliated MLG has particular advantages such as low defects and cost efficiency. However, the deposition of CuO on its surface is still a challenge due to the lack of active sites on the MLG surface. In this work, a one-step chemical bath deposition approach is developed to synthesize homogeneous CuO microflowers and Ag-doped CuO microflowers on MLG surfaces. The CuO structures are composed of ultra-small CuO nano-spindles and internal nano-gaps. The materials are well characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and evaluated as glucose sensors. The electrode of Ag-doped CuO microflowers on MLG exhibits a sensitivity of 1527 μA mM−1cm−2 in a linear response range of 0.01 mM ~ 6.0 mM with an excellent selectivity and a long-term stability. The composite is a promising material for glucose sensors due to its facile synthesis and highly detective performance.

Abstract:In the present work, ultrafine Cu 2 O nanoparticles decorated MnO 2 nanocomposite (Cu 2 O@MnO 2 ) was prepared by the in-situ growth method. The morphologies of nanomaterials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. The poor electrical conductivity of MnO 2 nanosheets and the severe aggregation of Cu 2 O nanoparticles could be sufficiently overcome through the formation of nanocomposite. The electrochemical results proved that the Cu 2 O@MnO 2 nanocomposite exhibited a better electrocatalytic effect towards the reduction of H 2 O 2 than pure MnO 2 nanosheets and Cu 2 O nanoparticles due to the synergistic effect between these materials. Under the optimal condition, H 2 O 2 could be detected in the range of 0.5–20 μM with a detection limit of 0.2 μM. The modified electrode exhibited satisfactory stability and reproducibility, and could be used to detect H 2 O 2 in real sample. The results revealed that nanocomposites containing different metal oxides owned great potential application in designing high performance non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:Cuprous oxide/silver (Cu2O/Ag) nanocomposites were prepared via a facile one-step method and used to construct an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection. In this method, AgNO3 and Cu(NO3)2 were reduced to Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites by glucose in the presence of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) at a low temperature. The optimum condition was the molar ratio of silver nitrate and copper nitrate of 1:10, the temperature of 50 °C. Under this condition, Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites were obtained with uniformly distributed and tightly combined Cu2O and Ag nanoparticles. The size of Cu2O particles was less than 100 nm and that of Ag particles was less than 20 nm. Electrochemical experiments indicate that the Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites-based sensor possesses an excellent performance toward H2O2, showing a linear range of 0.2 to 4000 μM, a high sensitivity of 87.0 μA mM−1 cm−2, and a low detection limit of 0.2 μM. The anti-interference capability experiments indicate this sensor has good selectivity toward H2O2. Additionally, the H2O2 recovery tests of the sensor in diluted milk solution signify its potential application in routine H2O2 analysis.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensors with high sensitivity and stable detecting ability have been particularly in demand in the charming medical health and environmental monitoring. In this work, spherical ZnFe2O4/g-C3N4 (ZFO/g-C3N4) nano/microcomposites with different contents of g-C3N4 were controllably synthesized through a solvothermal calcination strategy, and the morphologies of their target materials were systematically characterized via scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Subsequently, the as-prepared spherical ZFO/g-C3N4 composites are designed as an outstanding electrochemical sensor for H2O2, and its sensitivity was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. The ZFO/g-C3N4 microspheres exhibited a synergistic catalytic effect with a broad linear detection range between 5 and 200 μM and a detection limit of 1 μM (S/N = 3). The enhanced electrochemical performances of uniform ZFO/g-C3N4 composites with a three-dimensional net structure proved that the combination of a two-dimensional material (C3N4) and spinel-type metal oxide (ZnFe2O4) produces apparent activity, showing broad application potential in nonenzymatic sensors.

Abstract:Cobalt phthalocyanine nanorods were non-covalently absorbed onto graphene (Gr) through a one-step microwave radiation-assisted synthesis, and a novel cobalt phthalocyanine nanorod-graphene nanocomposite (nanoCoPc-Gr) was obtained. The formation of nanoCoPc on the surface of Gr was characterized by UV spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). HRTEM demonstrated that the nanorods were well-dispersed on the surface of Gr. The electrochemical performance of this type of nanocomposite was further investigated. NanoCoPc-Gr accelerates the electron transfer, and a glassy carbon electrode modified with the complex exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity towards hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Based on the electrocatalytic oxidation towards hydrogen peroxide, an amperometric enzyme electrode sensitive to glucose is also described, which was achieved by the immobilization of glucose oxidase onto the nanoCoPc-Gr electrode. The proposed glucose biosensor displayed good amperometric response characteristics towards glucose in a 0.1M buffer solution, such as a low overpotential (+500mV vs. SCE), a fast amperometric response (approximately 3s), a good linearity (R =0.9999) with the concentration range from 1.67×10−5 M to 1.60×10−3 M, and a low detection limit of 1.46×10−5 M (S/N =3).
3D Porous Graphene Architecture Integrated with Cu2O for Enhanced Electrochemical Sensing Performance

Abstract:Construction and functionalization of a 3D graphene architecture are crucial to harness and extend the unique features of graphene and thus essential for its numerous conventional and novel applications. Herein, a 3D honeycomb-patterned porous graphene architecture is constructed through a facile and low-cost self-assembly process and then integrated with Cu2O nanoparticles via a simple electrodeposition procedure. The 3D porous graphene structure is prepared by the breath figure method using a graphene oxide (GO)-based complex in which GO is modified by a surfactant as the casting material. Benefiting from the intercalation of the surfactant between the GO nanosheets and the fabrication of a 3D porous structure, the aggregation inhibition of GO nanosheets and increases in accessible surface area are realized at both nano- and microscales, resulting in good electrochemical performance. Moreover, the deposition of Cu2O nanoparticles can further improve the electrochemical sensing performance of the porous reduced graphene oxide (rGO) structure. Extremely low detection limit (30.72 nM) with a linear range of 0 μM to 30 μM, excellent anti-interference, repeatability, reproducibility, stability, and high accuracy for actual sample testing are shown when the 3D porous Cu2O/rGO film is applied as an electrochemical sensor for DA detection. This work provides not only a superior electrochemical biosensor but also a simple, yet effective and general strategy for the construction and functionalization of a 3D graphene structure.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) graphene-based nanomaterials have shown wide applications in electrochemical fields such as biosensors. In this study, we displayed a simple fabrication of 3D structural reduced graphene oxide (3D structural RGO) decorated with molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2QDs) through a three-step reaction process. With its abundant raw materials, this strategy is economic and non-toxic. Various characterization techniques were utilized to characterize the morphologies of the synthesized MoS(2)QDs, graphene oxide (GO), and 3D structural RGO-MoS(2)QDs composites. Simultaneously, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied to characterize the structure and properties of composites. In order to understand the effects of the reaction period on the structure of 3D structural RGO-MoS(2)QDs, a series of samples with various reaction periods were prepared for morphological characterization. Finally, the fabricated 3D structural RGO-MoS(2)QDs composites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode as an electrochemical non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor. The obtained results indicate that the fabricated electrochemical H2O2 sensor exhibits a wide detection range (0.01-5.57 mM), low detection limit (1.90 mu M), good anti-interference performance, and long-time stability (18 days). Abstract:A nonenzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) sensor was fabricated using the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and ferroferric oxide (Fe(3)O(4)) nanocomposites as the sensing material. The nanocomposites were synthesized by coprecipitation method and characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that the RGO sheet was evenly decorated by the well-crystallized Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles. The nanocomposites showed enhanced catalytic ability to the reduction of hydrogen peroxide compared with the RGO, Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles alone and the mixture materials. The sensor has a quite wide linear range from 0.1mM to 6mM (R(2)=0.990) with less than 5s response time. Moreover, its detection limit is 3.2 μM (S/N=3). The anti-interference ability, long-term stability and potential application in real samples of the sensor is also assessed. This work expands the application of the graphene-based nanomaterials in the sensor areas.
