Abstract:Nowadays traffic jam becomes a serious problem and also one of the major bottlenecks that restrict the city's development. ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) is proposed to deal with this problem, which generally combines computer science, information system, communication and control technologies. However, many cities in the world have become so crowded in the peak time that most available route planning methods based on static city maps could not work well. In this paper, we design and implement a kind of intelligent traffic guidance system based on pricing model and dynamic toll collection policy, which includes vehicle-mounted terminal, application software and developed pricing algorithm in the server side.

Abstract:Aiming at the inefficiency of traditional manual charging method,automatic toll collection system for highway based on radio frequency technology is provided.This paper gives a briefing on the analysis and description of the hardware design and software,and focuses on the design of communication protocol and implementation of charging software in the host computer.Practical test shows that the system is reliable and stable in data communication,can efficiently complete the function of automatic toll collection and is useful for highway information construction.

Abstract:Conventional GIS system can't express the complicated relations between objects.In order to solve this problem,the GIS data model is studied,then a geographic object data model is given in express highway based on the OpenGIS geometry data model,and at last the express-highway-GIS-T-system based on the object data model is implemented to enhance the capability of data representation in conventional GIS system.After that,a further extended GIS_T system is presented to users: Highway mangers who view that the system is according to the management criterion in the express highway,developers who view that the system is complete object-oriented,map operators who view that the system represents the real world.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a novel traffic control concept of internal boundary control for bi-directional lane-free traffic of automated vehicles on freeways. The internal boundary control can help exploit the capacity resources of road infrastructure and eliminate traffic jams by sharing the total bidirectional capacity for traffic on freeways when the total demand of the bi-directional traffic (also in consideration of on/off-ramp flows in both directions) does not exceed the total capacity. When this condition is not met, however, applying the internal boundary control alone cannot reach the pursued goal. Thus, one other traffic control measure ramp metering is introduced as well. This paper studies how to prevent freeway congestion using both control measures. A cell transmission model (CTM) based non-holding-back quadratic programming optimal control model is formulated. The investigation results show that the proposed integrated control scheme can maximize the utilization of road infrastructure and remove congestion at overloaded ramp-merging areas. It is the first time to study the combination of the two control measures and its potential.

Abstract:A multi-phase intelligent traffic controller based on inductive vehicle detection technology is designed to resolve complex intersection traffic signal control problems.With six control algorithms and eight operation modes,this controller can meet control requirements of most complex types of intersections.Also,the controller has the functions of green-conflict detection,fault detection and degradation mechanism under fault conditions,so the controller can ensure traffic safe and smooth in most cases.A single-intersection multi-phase traffic signal self-adaptive control strategy based on vehicle queuing length is proposed.The algorithm ensures traffic smooth and makes vehicle delay as short as possible.The controller has been practically applied in Hangzhou and other cities,and the results are satisfactory.

Abstract:Taking Beijing urban expressway system as a research object, its traffic flow characteristics were analyzed based on the survey data collected from its representative sections, and a optimization control strategy for the on-ramp metering was suggested. A feedback control to the on-ramp was realized by the ime occupancy and the vehile speed as the control variables, and using the comprehensive control effect of both parameters to determine the on-ramp metering rate. The critical threshold in the model was calibrated using the linear discriminant function in the pattern recognition. The suggested strategy was verified by simulation with software VISSIM. The results show that compared with those of without signal control mode, the suggested strategy increases the average speed on the mainline upstream at on-ramp by about 8%, and decreases the travel time on the mainline section by 7.2%.

Abstract:Traffic flow characteristics are analyzed based on the representative site data collected from Beijing urban expressway. On the basis of the characteristics, the local on-ramp metering rate is determined by the comprehensive control effects from two parameters adopting time occupancy and speed as control variable to realize feedback control. In order to validate the feasibility of the method, we make use of VISSIM to validate this method by video survey data between Sitong Bridge and Lianxiang Bridge in North Ring. The simulation result shows that the method can improve average speed on mainline upstream at on-ramp about 7% and decreases the travel time on mainline section by 9.5% compared with un-signal control mode. It denotes that the method is feasible and can offer reference for the theory of ramp control and application in engineering practices.

Based on the general research of these key problems, an algorithm of allocation for highway - net toll collection is obtained to have the total solution using the linking and regulation matrices to describe the highway - net structure. Abstract:Regarding the exclusive characteristics of mixed traffic in China, this paper offers some ideas to design scenarios for mixed urban traffic control after analyzing the characteristics of urban networks and traffic flow. Based on mix-flow theories, the paper establishes a system, namely HiCON, of urban mixed traffic control, including ramp metering, single-point control, coordinated arterial and regional control, and transit priority control. Implementations of HiCON in Beijing, Qingdao, and Fuzhou, respectively, have shown promising results: 10-20% reduction of delay, and 5-10% reduction of travel time, both for vehicles and in average.

Abstract:A complete understanding of the sequence-specific interaction between the EcoRI restriction endonuclease and its DNA substrate requires identification of all contacts between the enzyme and substrate, and evaluation of their significance. We have searched for possible contacts adjacent to the recognition site, GAATTC, by using a series of substrates with differing lengths of flanking sequence. Each substrate is a duplex of non-self-complementary oligodeoxyribonucleotides in which the recognition site is flanked by six base pairs on one side and from zero to three base pairs on the other. Steady-state kinetic values were determined for the cleavage of each strand of these duplexes. A series of substrates in which the length of flanking sequence was varied on both sides of the hexamer was also examined. The enzyme cleaved both strands of each of the substrates. Decreasing the flanking sequence to fewer than three base pairs on one side of the recognition site induced an asymmetry in the rates of cleavage of the two strands. The scissile bond nearest the shortening sequence was hydrolyzed with increasing rapidity as base pairs were successively removed. Taken together, the KM and kcat values obtained may be interpreted to indicate the relative importance of several likely enzyme-substrate contacts located outside the canonical hexameric recognition site.

Abstract:The expressway toll-gate is a facility for charging on vehicles. The reasonable setting of the number of toll lanes is an important part of the design of the toll plaza. The factors affecting the number of toll lanes are the traffic volume, service time and service level. This paper establishes and improves the model of the number of toll lanes based on Queuing Theory. And a calculation model for the number of lanes that is suiting for multiple payment and different vehicle models is proposed. This calculation model provides support for the calculation and selection of the number of toll lanes in the expressway.

Abstract:A unit of weight processor and barrier controller in the portable and extendable tolling system is presented in this paper.Three alternative working modes are easily to handle and switch.Single tolling units in a tolling house can be extended to four;toll can be expanded after power up;normal toll state can be resumed after power off.This unit alleviates the traffic jam pressure at thruway toll-gate,and at the same time realizes the wireless transmission for the encrypted weight information.With the 802.11b wireless net covered the overall toll area,mixed tolling work for both car and truck and the barrier/carriageway management can be controlled By selecting portable POS or toll lane controller to process the tolling and controlling the barrier of hybrid vehicle sequence,which enormously improve the passing speed for vehicles at tolling house,and meanwhile enhance the personal security and working efficiency for toll staff.

Abstract:In order to solve the congestion problem in the exit ramp area,the frontage road control model was developed and simulated by the Vissim.The traffic flow characteristic and the performance of frontage road control were analyzed under no control,priority control,pre-timed control and adaptive control.The results shows that the frontage road give-way control can get a optimal performance when the exit ramp vehicles have the priority,and the frontage road control is necessary when the traffic load exceeding 50 percent,and that if the vehicles of the frontage road do not give way to the off-ramp vehicles,the adaptive signal control can achieve the optimal performance.The overall vehicle delays can reduce 42 percent,especially in the mainline traffic state where the overall vehicle delays can reduce 46 percent.

Abstract:The expressways in Beijing are confronted with more serious traffic congestions. Based on the survey data obtained from the typical sections at the expressways, the time dependent characteristics of traffic flow parameters were analyzed in detail and the data gap was found in this paper. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method is proposed to transfer the data of traffic flow parameters for describing the fluctuation characteristics of traffic flow. Two methods of identification, the graph method and the control line method, were proposed as to the change time of traffic bottleneck forming and dissipating. The findings in this paper have already been applied in traffic management and ramp control at the expressways in Beijing.

Abstract:Traffic exhaust pollution, especially in congested areas of freeways, is one of the main causes of air pollution. With the increase in the number of vehicles, traffic and environmental issues have become more prominent. In addition, traffic congestion leads to frequent starting and stopping of vehicles, further exacerbating environmental pollution. This article focuses on the problem of frequent starting and stopping of vehicles, using variable speed limit control to smooth traffic flow, reduce vehicle speed, and alleviate exhaust emissions caused by traffic congestion. At the same time, considering the traffic and environmental benefits of bottleneck areas on freeways, the VT-Micro model is used to calculate exhaust emissions, and a coordinated control method for the mainline and ramp of freeways is proposed. The simulation experiment results show that the total driving time of the mainline and ramp collaborative control method considering environmental benefits has been reduced by 24.69%, CO emissions have been reduced by 4.79%, HC emissions have been reduced by 7.65%, NOx emissions have been reduced by 2.48%, and fuel consumption has been reduced by 4.98%.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an entry control framework to improve highway throughput. By modeling the framework with a virtual queuing system, we can derive each entry's waiting time, which is distributed to drivers' smart devices in real-time to improve highway throughput. Using this framework, a driver can wait at home instead of waiting in the ramp to save fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emission. Through analysis, we show that the proposed framework will bring economic efficiency and reduce environment pollution by leveraging today's communication and computing technology development. Simulation results show that the proposed entry control framework can significantly improve the capacity of highway systems.
