Abstract:Let $\X$ be a class of finite groups closed under taking the subgroups, homomorphic images and extensions. By $\D_\X$ denote the class of finite groups $G$ in which every two $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. In the paper, the following statement is proven. Let $A$ be a normal subgroup of a finite group $G$. Then \centerline{$G\in\D_\X$ if and only if $A\in \D_\X$ and $G/A\in \D_\X$.} This statement implies that the $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate if and only if the so called $\X$-sub\-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. Thus we obtain an affirmative solution to a problem posed by H.Wielandt in 1964.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group and H a subgroup of G . We say that H has an IC -property if the intersection of H and [H,G] satisfy some conditions. In this paper, we investigate the structure of a finite group G under the assumption that some maximal subgroups, 2-maximal subgroups, 3-maximal subgroups of G have the IC p -property and obtain some new characterizations of p -solvable and solvable groups.

Abstract:Recently sub-factors, sub-indices and infinite difference of group subsets have been introduced as a research topic by the author. We assign four sub-indices |G:A|±, |G:A|± and the ∞ -difference length to every subset A of a group G . We note that all sub-indices are equal (i.e., A is index stable in G ) if A is a subgroup or a normal sub-semigroup of G . It is proved that index stability of primes in integers is equivalent to a well-known open problem in number theory. In order to develop the theory, in this paper, we study sub-index properties in finite groups and give some criteria for the index stability. Also, an algorithm for finding sub-factors of finite groups is obtained. As an application of the topic, we provide some lower bounds for the order of the subgroup generated by a given subset of finite groups. Finally, we state many questions, problems, conjectures and some future directions of the topic.

Abstract:Let H be a subgroup of a group G . Then H is called an ICΦs− subgroup of G if (H∩[H,G])HG/HG⊆Φ(H/HG)HsG/HG , where H sG is the subgroup of H generated by all those subgroups of H which are s -permutable in G . We prove the p -supersolvability of a finite group G under the assumption that certain p -subgroups of G are ICΦs− subgroups of G . Our main result generalizes and extends some recent work of Gao and Li (2022).

Abstract:Let H be a subgroup of a finite group G . We say that H satisfies the Π-property in G if for any chief factor L / K of G , ∣ G / K : N G/K ( HK/K ∩ L / K )∣ is a π ( HK/K ∩ L / K )-number. We obtain some criteria for the p -supersolubility or p -nilpotency of a finite group and extend some known results by concerning some subgroups that satisfy the Π-property.

Abstract:Given a finite group G, two elements are ≡ m -related if they lie in exactly the same maximal subgroups of G. This equivalence relation was introduced by P. J. Cameron, A. Lucchini and C. M. Roney-Dougal to understand better the generated set for finite groups. We study the relation ≡ m in a conjugacy class of G and determine sufficient conditions to ensure that such conjugacy class is contained in the Fitting subgroup F(G) of G. If G is soluble and x, y are two ≡ m -related elements of G such that (|xG |, |yG |) = 1, we prove that they lie in F(G).

Abstract:A subgroup $H$ of a finite group $G$ is said to be an $\mathscr{H}C$-subgroup of $G$ if there exists a normal subgroup $T$ of $G$ such that $G=HT$ and $H^g \cap N_T(H)\leq H$ for all $g\in G$. In this paper, we investigate the structure of a finite group $G$ under the assumption that certain subgroups of $G$ of arbitrary prime power order are $\mathscr{H}C$-subgroups of $G$.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a group. A subset $S$ of $G$ is said to normally generate $G$ if $G$ is the normal closure of $S$ in $G.$ In this case, any element of $G$ can be written as a product of conjugates of elements of $S$ and their inverses. If $g\in G$ and $S$ is a normally generating subset of $G,$ then we write $\| g\|_{S}$ for the length of a shortest word in $\mbox{Conj}_{G}(S^{\pm 1}):=\{h^{-1}sh | h\in G, s\in S \, \mbox{or} \, s{^{-1}}\in S \}$ needed to express $g.$ For any normally generating subset $S$ of $G,$ we write $\|G\|_{S} =\mbox{sup}\{\|g\|_{S} \,|\,\, g\in G\}.$ Moreover, we write $\Delta(G)$ for the supremum of all $\|G\|_{S},$ where $S$ is a finite normally generating subset of $G,$ and we call $\Delta(G)$ the conjugacy diameter of $G.$ In this paper, we determine the conjugacy diameters of the semidihedral $2$-groups, the generalized quaternion groups and the modular $p$-groups. This is a natural step after the determination of the conjugacy diameters of dihedral groups, which were recently found by the first author (finite case) and by Kedra, Libman and Martin (infinite case).

Using the concept of s-conditionally permutable subgroups, some new characterizations of finite groups are obtained and several interesting results are generalized.

Abstract:We study index theory on homogeneous spaces associated to an almost connected Lie group in terms of the topological aspect and the analytic aspect. On the topological aspect, we obtain a topological formula as a result of the Riemann-Roch formula for proper cocompact actions of the Lie group, inspired by the work of Paradan and Vergne. On the analytic aspect, we apply heat kernel methods to obtain a local index formula representing the higher indices of equivariant elliptic operators with respect to a proper cocompact actions of the Lie group.

Abstract:Let be a class of finite groups containing a group of even order and closed under subgroups, homomorphic images, and extensions. Then each finite group possesses a maximal -subgroup of odd index and the study of the subgroups can be reduced to the study of the so-called submaximal -subgroups of odd index in simple groups. We prove a theorem that deduces the description of submaximal -subgroups of odd index in an alternating group from the description of maximal -subgroups of odd index in the corresponding symmetric group. In consequence, we classify the submaximal soluble subgroups of odd index in alternating groups up to conjugacy.

The Conjugacy Ratio of Abelian-by-$\mathbb Z$ Groups

Abstract:Let $G = K \rtimes \langle t \rangle $ be a finitely generated group where $K$ is abelian and $\langle t\rangle$ is the infinite cyclic group. Let $ R $ be a finite symmetric subset of $K$ such that $S = \{ (r,1),(0,t^{\pm 1}) \mid r \in R \}$ is a generating set of $G$. We prove that the spherical conjugacy ratio, and hence the conjugacy ratio, of $G$ with respect to $S$ is $0$ unless $G$ is virtually abelian, confirming a conjecture of Ciobanu, Cox and Martino in this case. We also show that the Baumslag--Solitar group $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ has a one-sided Følner sequence $F$ such that the conjugacy ratio with respect to $F$ is non-zero, even though $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ is not virtually abelian. This is in contrast to two-sided Følner sequences, where Tointon showed that the conjugacy ratio with respect to a two-sided Følner sequence is positive if and only if the group is virtually abelian.
