Abstract:Let G be a finite group and H a subgroup of G. H is said to be S-quasinormal in G if HP = PH for all Sylow subgroups P of G. Let H-sG be the subgroup of H generated by all those subgroups of H which are S-quasinorrnal in G and H-sG the intersection of all S-quasinormal subgroups of G containing H. The symbol vertical bar G vertical bar(p) denotes the order of a Sylow p-subgroup of G. We prove the following THEOREM A. Let G be a finite group and p a prime dividing vertical bar G vertical bar. Then G is p-supersoluble if and only if for every cyclic subgroup H of (G) over bar = G/O-p'(G) of prime order or order 4 (if p = 2), (G) over bar has a normal subgroup T such that HT = H-s (G) over bar and H boolean AND T = H-s (G) over bar boolean AND T. THEOREM B. A soluble finite group G is p-supersoluble if and only if for every 2-maximal subgroup E of G such that O-p'(G) <= E and vertical bar G : E vertical bar is not a power of p, G has an S-quasinorrnal subgroup T with cyclic Sylow p-subgroups such that E-sG = ET and vertical bar E boolean AND T vertical bar(p) = vertical bar E-sG boolean AND T vertical bar(p). THEOREM C. A finite group G is p-soluble if for every 2-maximal subgroup E of G such that O-p'(G) <= E and vertical bar G : E vertical bar is not a power of p, G has an S-guasinormal subgroup T such that E-sG = ET and vertical bar E boolean AND T vertical bar, = vertical bar E-sG boolean AND T vertical bar(p).
