Abstract:We report on a diode-pumped high power femtosecond Yb:LYSO laser. More than 3 W average power with pulse duration of 215 fs at 1042 nm and 297 fs at 1035 nm, respectively, were obtained.

Abstract:A stable diode pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked (KLM) Yb:LuYSiO5 (Yb:LYSO) laser of generating 61 fs pulses at a central wavelength of 1055.4 nm is experimentally demonstrated. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of femtosecond KLM operation in Yb:LYSO laser, and it is believed that 61 fs is the shortest pulse duration ever produced from an Yb-doped orthosilicate laser. The average output power of the mode-locked laser is 40 mW and the repetition rate is 113 MHz.

Abstract:We report on sub-40 fs pulse generation from a Yb:Sc2SiO5 laser pumped by a spatially single-mode fiber-coupled laser diode at 976 nm. A maximum output power of 545 mW was obtained at 1062.6 nm in the continuous-wave regime, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 64% and a laser threshold of 143 mW. A continuous wavelength tuning across 80 nm (1030 -1110 nm) was also achieved. Implementing a SESAM for starting and stabilizing the mode-locked operation, the Yb:Sc2SiO5 laser delivered soliton pulses as short as 38 fs at 1069.5 nm with an average output power of 76 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼79.8 MHz. The maximum output power was scaled to 216 mW for slightly longer pulses of 42 fs, which corresponded to a peak power of 56.6 kW and an optical efficiency of 22.7%. To the best of our knowledge, these results represent the shortest pulses ever achieved with any Yb3+-doped rare-earth oxyorthosilicate crystal.

Abstract:An efficient femtosecond mode-locked laser using Nd and Y-codoped SrF2 crystal as the gain medium is presented in this letter. A 332 fs pulse centered at 1057 nm with a repetition rate of 89.8 MHz, a spectral width of 4.3 nm, and a mode-locked output power of up to 395 mW has been obtained under 1 W pump power, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 39.5% and a slope efficiency of 69%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest optical efficiency in femtosecond Nd-doped crystal lasers.

Abstract:Ytterbium $(\text{Yb}^{3+})$ doped trigonal yttrium aluminum borate, $\text{Yb}^{3+}:\text{YAl}_{3}(\text{BO}_{3})$ , (abbreviated Yb:YAB), represents a well-known structurally ordered laser crystal which is very suitable for the development of high-power lasers both in the continuous-wave and Q-switched regimes at ~1μm [1]. It is an optically uniaxial (negative) crystal with non-centrosymmetric huntite-like structure (sp. gr. $R32$ , point group 32) exhibiting high nonlinearity ( $d_{\text{eff}} > 1.4$ pm/V [2]), being recognized as one of the most promising self-frequency doubling (SFD) laser crystals for generating coherent radiation in the visible spectral range [3]. The relatively broad and flat gain spectra of the $\text{Yb}^{3+}$ ions in YAB support sub-100 fs pulse generation from passively mode-locked (ML) lasers [4], [5]. In combination with its relatively good thermal conductivity ( $4.7\ \text{Wm}^{-1}\mathrm{K}^{-1}$ for 5.6 at% Yb doping [6]), as well as broad gain profiles, the Yb:YAB crystal has good potential for the power scalable operation of femtosecond lasers at ~1 μm [7]. In the present work, we report on a diode-pumped Yb:YAB laser delivering soliton pulses as short as 36 fs at 1059.7 nm with an average output power of 156 mW via Kerr-lens mode-locking (KLM).

Abstract:We report on sub-50 fs pulse generation from a passively mode-locked Yb:SrF2 laser pumped with a spatially single-mode, fiber-coupled laser diode at 976 nm. In the continuous-wave regime, the Yb:SrF2 laser generated a maximum output power of 704 mW at 1048 nm with a threshold of 64 mW and a slope efficiency of 77.2%. A continuous wavelength tuning across 89 nm (1006 - 1095 nm) was achieved with a Lyot filter. By implementing a SEmiconductor Saturable Absorber Mirror (SESAM) for initiating and sustaining the mode-locked operation, soliton pulses as short as 49 fs were generated at 1057 nm with an average output power of 117 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼75.9 MHz. The maximum average output power of the mode-locked Yb:SrF2 laser was scaled up to 313 mW for slightly longer pulses of 70 fs at 1049.4 nm, corresponding to a peak power of 51.9 kW and an optical efficiency of 34.7%.

Abstract:High-efficiency continuous-wave (CW) Tm:YLF laser by the dual-end-pumping configuration is presented. Under the total input pump power of 24.0 W, the highest, output power reaches 9.8 W in the wavelength range of 1910 - 1926 nm by use of 10% output coupling, corresponding to optical conversion efficiency of 40.9% and slope efficiency of 51.4%. The free-running laser spectrum of Tm:YLF is measured.

Abstract:Femtosecond pulse generation from diode-pumped praseodymium (Pr) lasers in the near-infrared has been a long pursuit for the optics community. Utilizing the Pr:LiYF4 crystal in a novel dispersion arrangement scheme that includes a set of triple Gires-Tournois interferometer mirrors, mode-locked ultrashort pulses as short as 451 fs at 915 nm have been achieved when the crystal is directly pumped by a blue laser-diode. The pulse energy is 3 nJ and peak power is 7.2 kW at the repetition rate of 85.5 MHz. This is the first demonstration of diode-pumped Pr lasers arriving the femtosecond regime.

Abstract:In this letter, we report a diode-pumped nano-second laser with the output energy 10 J, the repetition rate 50 Hz, and the average power 500 W. The main amplifier was made up of eight amplify modules. Each amplify module was pumped by an 808 nm laser diode and cooled by water from the back end of the Nd:YAG slab. To our knowledge, this represents the highest pulse repetition rate for the 10 J class nano-second single-aperture Nd:YAG laser. The beam quality was controlled by means of mechanical design and adjustment and compensation by a home-made deforming mirror. The beam quality was controlled well with the beam quality of the laser 2.61DL.

Abstract:We report on the first sub-60 fs pulse generated from a diode-pumped SESAM mode-locked Yb-laser based on a non-centrosymmetric Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 crystal as a gain medium. In the continuous-wave regime, pumping with a spatially single-mode, fiber-coupled 976 nm InGaAs laser diode, the Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 laser generated 391 mW at 1041.7 nm with a slope efficiency as high as 65.1%, and a wavelength tuning across 59 nm (1019 to 1078 nm) was achieved. By implementing a commercial SESAM to initiate and sustain the soliton type mode-locking, and using only a 1 mm-thick laser crystal, the Yb:YAl3(BO3)4 laser delivered pulses as short as 56 fs at a central wavelength of 1044.6 nm with an average output power of 76 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼67.55 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this result represents the shortest pulses ever achieved from Yb:YAB crystal.

Abstract:Abstract We demonstrate an efficient ultrafast source with 195 fs pulse duration, 54 W average power at 200 kHz repetition rate and near diffraction-limited beam quality. The compact setup incorporates a thin-disk Yb:YAG regenerative amplifier (RA) and a subsequent nonlinear pulse compression stage with periodic-layered Kerr media (PLKM), which is one of the multiple-thin-solid-plate schemes based on nonlinear resonator theory. In virtue of the formation of quasi-stationary spatial soliton in PLKM, the near diffraction-limited beam quality of the RA remained almost undisturbed after post-compression. The nonlinear pulse compression module is simple and efficient with a transmission of 96%. To the best our knowledge, for pulse energy over 200 μJ, this is the highest output power reported for the multiple-thin-solid-plate scheme. This source manifests an economical combination to mitigate the bandwidth limitations of Yb-based high-power chirped pulse amplifiers.

Abstract:A 2 μm laser has important applications and prospects in various fields such as LIDAR, material processing, environmental monitoring, and space communication, as well as fundamental researches. Being designed for the room-temperature operation, our Tm:YLF laser with L flat concave resonator incorporates a laser-diode end-pump setup, in which a volume Bragg grating and double Fabry–Pérot etalons serve as a line-width limiting element. With an injection power of 49.58 W, a maximum output power of 17.78 W is achieved with a center wavelength of 1908.55 nm and a linewidth limited from 2 to 0.1 nm. A corresponding slope efficiency of 42.89% and an optical–optical conversion efficiency of 35.86% are obtained.

Abstract:We developed a high-power continuous-wave (CW) 1048 nm Yb:YAG laser oscillator with a folded cavity structure. Based on a surface gain slab structure of Yb:YAG, the CW laser output property of 1030 and 1048 nm wavelengths is theoretically analyzed. In order to achieve a CW single-wavelength laser output at 1048 nm, a high-power pump and the suppression of laser oscillations at other wavelengths were required. In our experiments at 4200 W of pump power, we obtained a maximum output power of 1330 W, with an optical–optical conversion efficiency of 31 %, a maximum slope efficiency of 46.4 % and a beam quality ( β ) of 1.7 times the diffraction limit. We also proposed a laser oscillator. To the best of our knowledge, we obtained the highest power and beam quality for Yb:YAG laser oscillators at 1048 nm. This work could provide a useful platform for developing 1048 nm lasers with higher power and beam quality and increasing the accessibility of the 1048 nm regime.

Abstract:A diode-pumped self-frequency-doubled Nd,Lu:YAl3 (BO3)4 (Nd,Lu:YAB) laser has been operated both continuous wave (cw) and Q-switched. This is a new self-frequency-doubling crystal, which is easier to grow than the related Nd:YAB. Under cw operation, TEM00 mode output powers at the fundamental of 210 mW, or, at the second harmonic wavelength of 531 nm, of up to 24 mW have been obtained, for 880 mW of pump power. When the laser was Q-switched using an acousto-optic modulator, the maximum average power at 531 nm was over 100 mW. The laser operated at pulse repetition rates of up to 70 kHz and delivered pulsewidths in the range of 6–22 ns. These represent the highest visible output power and shortest pulsewidth obtained to date from a diode-pumped Nd:YAB laser.

Abstract:In this paper, we report two crystals Tm:YLF laser pumped by a fiber coupled diode laser with total power of 180 W at 792 nm. When the incident power reached up to 117.0 and 37.3 W of the emission wave-length at 1.91 μm was achieved. Through linear fit, the corresponding slope efficiency of 38.5%, optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 31.9% and the beam quality factor of M 2 ∼ 1.1 were obtained, indicating nearly diffraction limited beam propagation. To our best knowledge, this is the best beam quality among the reported paper results under the similar experiments.

Abstract:A high efficient diode-pumped Tm:YAP laser is reported. The maximum output power at 1981 run is 5.2 W and the slope efficiency is 30%. Unpolarized absorption near 800 run and unpolarized fluorescence spectra near 1800 nm pumped by laser diode (LD) are measured. In addition, the relationship between operation temperature and output power is discussed.

Abstract:We demonstrate a novel and very simple design for an efficient high-power femtosecond Yb:KGW slab laser oscillator. The laser is capable of producing output powers of more than 5 W at 44-MHz repetition rate and pulse widths as short as 161 fs with a nearly diffraction limited beam and an optical-to-optical efficiency of more than 28%. The laser is pumped by a single broad-area laser diode and employs simple pump optics consisting of three lenses. The laser output power is distributed between two beams and single or combined outputs are discussed. In combination with a tapered fiber the laser was used to generate femtosecond supercontinua with up to 1.3-W average power and spectra spanning from 420 to over 1750 nm.

Abstract:High power and high beam quality continuous wave Tm:YLF laser by the dual-end-pumped is presented in this letter. The highest output power reaches 21.3 W when the totally input pump power is 54.6 W. The optical conversion efficiency is 39.0% and the slope efficiency is 47.3% With an F-P etalon in, the cavity, the output center wavelength is tuned to 1908 nm with about 0.5 nm FWHM. With the optimal cavity, the beam quality factor M-2 can be similar to 1.1. As we know, our work is the first time to investigate the Tm:YLF laser output spectrum with an F-P etalon in the cavity, and acquire near-diffraction limited laser output.
