Abstract:A general and clean method for the one-pot synthesis of thioamides was investigated using a combination of experiments and quantum chemical calculations. Ester, amide, and elemental sulfur were employed as starting materials and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as catalyst. Both alkyl and aryl thioamides with various functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields. Neither transition metals nor external oxidants were required in this reaction. The catalytic performance of EDTA originates from a stepwise, proton transfer process in which EDTA transports a proton from the benzyl carbon to a sulfur atom. Such a process is concerted by discrete charge transfer such that the associated barrier gets lowered.

Abstract:Chiral sulfide is an important fine chemical product. The intermediate product L-2-chlorosuccinic acid was prepared from L-aspartate via diazotization and chlorination. Thus,(+)-2R,2'S-thiodisuccinic acid was prepared with the total yield of 40.1%. Its structure was characterized by 1H-NMR,[α20D] =+27.3 (c=1.0,DMSO) and the optical purity was 99.3%. A novel synthesis of chiral sulfide was introduced,in which natural amino acid was applied as chiral pool.

Abstract:The coupling of acetonitrile into succinonitrile, an important terminal dinitrile for value-added nylon production, via a dehydrogenative route is highly attractive, as it combines the valuable chemical synthesis with the production of green hydrogen energy. Here, we demonstrate that it is possible to achieve a highly selective light driven dehydrogenative coupling of acetonitrile molecules to synthesize succinonitrile using anatase TiO 2 based photocatalysts in aqueous medium under mild conditions. Under optimized conditions, the formation rate of succinonitrile reaches 6.55 mmol/(g cat *h), with over 97.5% selectivity to target product. Mechanism studies reveal that water acts as cocatalyst in the reaction. The excited hole of anatase semiconductor oxidizes water forming hydroxyl radical, which subsequently assists the cleavage of sp 3 C-H bond of acetonitrile to generate ·CH 2 CN radical for further C-C coupling. The synergy between TiO 2 and Pt cocatalyst is important to enhance the succinonitrile selectivity and prevent undesirable over-oxidation and hydrolysis. This work offers an alternative route to prepare succinonitrile based on renewable energy under mild conditions and avoid the use of toxic reagents and stoichiometric oxidative radical initiators.

Abstract:An efficient enzymatic method for the synthesis of (S)-3-substituted glutaric acid monoesters which was aided by molecular docking has been described. The reaction was proceeded under mild conditions, and the desired products were afforded with up to 98% ee in the yield of 93%. The results demonstrate that molecular docking is efficient to facilitate selection of substrates in enzymatic reaction.

Abstract:The synthesis of succinimide from succinic anhydride (SA) in water over unsupported nanoporous nickel material (NiNPore) is investigated for the first time. As a result, NiNPore exhibited efficient catalytic performance for the conversion of SA into succinimide and gave 93% isolated yield. Recycling study indicated that NiNPore could be reused at least three times and still kept good catalytic activity for the transformation. Moreover, the conversion of glutaric anhydride (GA) could also proceed well into glutarimide at optimal conditions, and provided 71% isolated yield. The result indicated that SA was the main reactant rather than succinic acid in water. This work provides a promising strategy for the conversion of SA into succinimide in water.

Abstract:We have successfully developed a highly enantioselective hydrogenation of various 3-aryl and 3-methyl maleinimides to access enantiomerically pure 3-substituted succinimides catalyzed by Rh/bisphosphine-thiourea (Zhao-Phos). This efficient catalytic system furnished the desired 3 substituted succinimide products with high yields and enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield, full conversions, almost all 3-aryl succinimide products up to 99% ee, and 3-methyl succinimide with 83% ee). Our catalytic system has a strong substrate tolerance and generality. Whether the N-substituted group of maleinimides is H or other protecting groups, the maleinimides were hydrogenated well (up to >99% ee, 99% yield). Moreover, the hydrogenation succinimide products can be readily utilized for the construction of biologically active molecules, such as chiral amides and pyrrolidines.

Abstract:Bifunctional thiourea-based organocatalysts facilitate an enantioselective desymmetrization and Lossen rearrangement cascade reaction of N-sulfoxy meso-succinimides, resulting in the synthesis of cyclic β-amino acid derivatives. This catalytic system was optimized for bicyclic and tricyclic succinimide substrates affording yields from 61-91% and up to 96:4 er. This reaction proceeds via the group selective addition of the primary alcohol nucleophile to an enantiotopic carbonyl group with sequential rearrangement of the intermediate O-sulfonyl hydroxamate ester.

Abstract:The generation of thioesters through thioesterification of carboxylic acid has significant synthetic value given the easy availability of various carboxylic acids and the extensive application of thioesters. An economical and rapid thioester synthesis approach is still needed. Herein, we achieved thioesterification of carboxylic acids with valuable glycosyl thiol, aromatic and aliphatic thiols mediated by sulfonyl fluoride (SO2F2). The compatibility of numerous carboxylic acid substrates was tested, including (hetero)aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids and the reaction proceeded smoothly under mild conditions at good yields. Late‐stage modification of drug molecules rac‐Naproxen and Loxoprofen proved feasible. Besides, the gram‐scale reaction demonstrated the utility of this protocol.

Abstract:A novel and convenient method has been developed for the facile synthesis of functionalized succinimide derivatives via intramolecular Alder-ene reaction of 1,6-enynes. This reaction features mild and metal-free reaction conditions, which offers a green and efficient entry to synthetically important succinimide scaffolds. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that a diradical intermediate might be involved in this transformation.

Abstract:We describe a specific procedure for the synthesis of deuterium-labelled 2-（1-methylalkyl）succinate established via alkylation of diethyl malonate,Krapcho decarboxylation reaction with D 2 O and hydrolysis reaction.Two novel compounds,2-[~2H]-2-ethylsuccinic acid and 2-[~2H]-2-（1-methylheptyl）succinic acid were prepared via this synthetic route and characterized by mass spectrometry and ’H NMR.The results showed that the 2-（1-methylalkyl）succinic acids were deuterated at the β-position,which is considered as an important reaction centre in the anaerobic degradation of n-alkanes.

Abstract:Succinimide derivatives are valuable compounds in synthesis of natural products and pharmaceuticals. A catalytic hydroaminocarbonylation reaction was developed for the synthesis of succinimides from alkynes, CO and NH4HCO3. The novel transformation proceeds in the presence of Fe-3(CO)(12) without the need for expensive ligands or additives. Various substituted alkynes are selectively transformed into corresponding succinimides in good yields. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that NH4HCO3 plays an important role in the formation and stabilization of iron catalyst. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Herein, an effective and facile synthesis of 3-(pyrazol-1-yl) succinimides is first presented through silver-catalyzed aza-Michael addition of pyrazoles to maleimides. In the presence of 5 mol% of Ag2CO3, various pyrazoles smoothly reacted with maleimides in dichloroethane at 100 degree celsius, to generate 3-(pyrazol-1-yl) succinimides in excellent yields. Notably, 3-substituted asymmetric pyrazoles exclusively give 3-pyrazolyl succinimides in excellent yields possibly due to the steric bulk of the 3-substituent excluding the formation of addition products of N-2. The method can also extend to gram scale.

The disodium salt of acetylene dicarboxylic acid (tetrahydrate) was obtained from dibromosuccinic acid by treating the latter with an excess of concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.

Abstract:Developing a green and efficient method for synthesizing vinyl sulfones is challenging and highly desirable. We hereby report a green, sustainable, and unprecedented mechanochemical-assisted approach for the decarboxylative sulfonylation of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids with sodium sulfinates using only potassium iodide (50 mol%) as an activator under water-assisted grinding conditions. A library of alkyl and aryl vinyl sulfone derivatives was synthesized successfully up to 92% yield with excellent functional group compatibility under a short reaction time. This sulfonylation strategy is well tolerated by aryl α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids, and alkyl and aryl sodium sulfinate salts. The advantages of this strategy are (i) metal catalyst-, base-, oxidant-, and solvent-free, (ii) operationally simple with a short reaction time, (iii) excellent effective mass yield, atom economy, E-factor, and EcoScale score. The practicality of this method is also demonstrated in the gram-scale synthesis of vinyl sulfones.

Abstract:The utilization of carbon dioxide poses major challenges owing to its high thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness. To circumvent these problems, a simple reaction system is reported comprising ammonium carbamates as carbon dioxide surrogates, propargylic alcohols, and a silver(I) catalyst, for the effective conversion of a wide range of alcohols and secondary amines into the corresponding β-oxopropylcarbamates. A key feature of this strategy includes quantitative use of a carbon resource with high product yields under gas-free and mild reaction conditions. Notably, this catalytic protocol also works well for the carboxylative cyclization of propargylic amines and carbon dioxide surrogates to afford 2-oxazolidinones.

Abstract:A simple and fast synthesis of (S)‐pyroglutamic acid under solvent‐free condition has been achieved via thermal cyclodehydration of (S)‐glutamic acid. A simple and rapid synthesis of (S)‐pyroglutamic acid was developed by the thermal cyclodehydration of (S)‐glutamic acid under solvent‐free conditions, with continuous swirling during heating (220°C) to ensure homogeneity of the melt. The reaction proceeds until the bubbles disappear, not exceeding 5 min. The heating immediately ceases, then cooling the reaction vessel to prevent degradation and racemization. (S)‐pyroglutamic acid is obtained in 70% yield, and the enantiomeric ratio is 97:3. The same reaction under microwave heating in an aqueous solution afforded a low yield of racemic product.

Abstract:A silver-mediated decarboxylative cross-coupling of aliphatic carboxylic acids to deliver C - S couplings products is reported. This reaction occurs smoothly under mild conditions and tolerates a various 1,2-di(pyrimidin-2-yl) disulfides and aliphatic carboxylic acids bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups. It provides an alternative approach for the synthesis of alkyl pyrimidinyl sulfides, which may be applied as the key intermediates in the synthesis of drug candidates.
