Abstract:A novel and convenient method has been developed for the facile synthesis of functionalized succinimide derivatives via intramolecular Alder-ene reaction of 1,6-enynes. This reaction features mild and metal-free reaction conditions, which offers a green and efficient entry to synthetically important succinimide scaffolds. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that a diradical intermediate might be involved in this transformation.

Abstract:We have successfully developed a highly enantioselective hydrogenation of various 3-aryl and 3-methyl maleinimides to access enantiomerically pure 3-substituted succinimides catalyzed by Rh/bisphosphine-thiourea (Zhao-Phos). This efficient catalytic system furnished the desired 3 substituted succinimide products with high yields and enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield, full conversions, almost all 3-aryl succinimide products up to 99% ee, and 3-methyl succinimide with 83% ee). Our catalytic system has a strong substrate tolerance and generality. Whether the N-substituted group of maleinimides is H or other protecting groups, the maleinimides were hydrogenated well (up to >99% ee, 99% yield). Moreover, the hydrogenation succinimide products can be readily utilized for the construction of biologically active molecules, such as chiral amides and pyrrolidines.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:The green and efficient synthesis of mono-, dis- and tri-substituted aryl sulfides and selenides was achieved via I 2 mediated reaction of aromatic hydrocarbons with diphenyl disulfide or diselenide. A series of C–S and C–Se coupling products were obtained in good to excellent yield in the presence of 1.0 equiv. I 2 using water as solvent at 90 °C. Our study showed that S–S and Se–Se bonds were activated by I 2 , which acted as a free radical initiator to generate PhS • and PhSe • free radicals, and conversion to C–S–C and C–Se–C bonds through a coupling reaction. The developed method achieves desirable products without using odorous and toxic thiols. This protocol is simple, highly efficiency, and avoids using metal catalyst, and acid and base additives.

Abstract:1-Iodoalkynes are one type of the most reactive and the most practical intermediates in organic synthesis. Here, some facile and efficient methods for the 1-iodination of terminal alkynes are developed using N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) as an iodination reagent and some inexpensive mild bases as catalysts. K2CO3 and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) have been proven to be the most suitable inorganic and organic bases, succeeding in 17 examples with excellent yields (up to 99%).

Abstract:An efficient Dess-Martin periodinane (DMP)-promoted dearylation of N-arylsulfonamides was developed through a highly selective oxidative cleavage of the inert C(aryl)—N bonds in secondary sulfonamides while leaving the S—N bond unchanged.This metal-free reaction proceeds under mild conditions and provides access to various biologically important primary sulfonamides,some of which are otherwise unattainable using conventional aminolysis and hydrolysis methods.The concise and efficient dearylation reaction provides the use of an aryl group as a removable protecting sulfonamide group under metal catalyst-free conditions.

Abstract:Herein, we report a general method for the synthesis of NH-sulfoximines and NH-sulfonimidamides through direct electrochemical oxidative catalysis involving an iodoarene(I)/iodoarene(III) redox couple. In addition, dibenzothiazines can be synthesized from [1,1'-biaryl]-2-sulfides under standard conditions. Notably, only a catalytic amount of iodoarene is required for the generation in situ of an active hypervalent iodine catalyst, which avoids the need for an excess of a hypervalent iodine reagent relative to conventional approaches. Moreover, this protocol features broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance, delivering the target compounds with good-to-excellent yields even for a scale of more than 10 g.

Abstract:Abstract A highly efficient method for the synthesis of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles has been developed by utilizing readily available tosylhydrazones and ammonium thiocyanate with ecofriendly EtOH as the solvent at room temperature. The reaction shows a wide scope of substrates and good functional-group tolerance. This protocol can be scaled up to a gram level and can be applied to coupling reactions with 4-(4-bromophenyl)-1,2,3-thiadiazole as the substrate.

Abstract:A simple, general and efficient method is developed for the metal-free iodination of arylboronic acids. The protocol uses very cheap molecular iodine as the halide source and potassium carbonate as the base. The method is highly tolerant of various functional groups present in the substrates. Importantly, the iodination strategy can also be applied very effectively in the one-pot, two-step synthesis of biaryl derivatives.

Abstract:The commercially available and cheap sodium dithionite is used as the source of sulfonyl group for the synthesis of sulfones and sulfonamides from (hetero)aryl iodides under catalyst-free conditions. During the reaction process, sodium sulfinates generated insitu are the key intermediate, which can be further converted into diverse sulfones and sulfonamides. This transformation proceeds through a radical process initiated by sodium dithionite, providing a convenient route to sulfonyl-containing compounds.

Abstract:N,N'-Disulfonylhydrazines have been proven to be the most reactive precursors of the sulfonyl radicals among all types of sulfonyl substituted hydrazines as early as half a century ago. However, the sulfonyl radicals generated from these compounds have not been used in organic synthesis except the simple self-dimerization synthesis of disulfones controlled by the "solvent-cage-effects". In this article, N,N'-disulfonylhydrazines were introduced as new sulfonylating reagents and their combinations with NIS were disclosed as new iodosulfonylating reagents of alkynes. Finally, a highly efficient method for the synthesis of (E)-beta-iodovinyl arenesulfones was developed by mixing an alkyne, a N,N'-disulfonylhydrazine and NIS in aqueous THF at room temperature for 5 min.
