Abstract:To ensure the reliability of the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT), the simultaneous wireless power and data transmission technology has gained more attention to realize real-time information exchange between the transmitter and receiver sides. In this paper, the shared channel technology and 2FSK modulation method are proposed to accomplish data and power transmission simultaneously. The theoretical analysis of the series-series compensation network is established, and the data modulation method through frequency-shifted modulation is analyzed. In order to reduce the bit error rate of transmitted data, a communication data format containing start and stop bits is proposed in this proposed system. Finally, an experimental prototype is constructed to validate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed design and approach.

Abstract:Packet corruption caused by collision is a critical problem that hurts the performance of wireless networks. Conventional medium access control (MAC) protocols resort to collision avoidance to maintain acceptable efficiency of channel utilization. According to our investigation and observation, however, collision avoidance comes at the cost of miscellaneous overhead, which oppositely hurts channel utilization, not to mention the poor resiliency and performance of those protocols in face of dense networks or intensive traffic. Discovering the ability to tolerate collisions at the physical layer implementations of wireless networks, we in this paper propose Coco, a protocol that advocates simultaneous accesses from multiple senders to a shared channel, i.e., optimistically allowing collisions instead of simply avoiding them. With a simple but effective design, Coco addresses the key challenges in achieving collision tolerance, such as precise sender alignment and the control of transmission concurrency. We implement Coco in 802.15.4 networks and evaluate its performance through extensive experiments with 21 TelosB nodes. The results demonstrate that Coco is light-weight and enhances channel utilization by at least 20 percent in general cases, compared with state-of-the-arts protocols.

Abstract:Bluetooth technology is a kind of technology suitable for short distance wireless communication and has features of high security and low interference.In the paper,a bluetooth module was developed using Signal-Chip Microcomputer and communication between bluetooth module and mobile phone with bluetooth was established so that Signal-Chip Microcomputer and bluetooth's system were controlled by a mobile phone.At the same time,the bluetooth module could be binded to a special bluetooth device,and embedded in the safe system to greatly improve the system's security and robustness.

Abstract:A method is proposed about the design of a novel wireless narrow-band communication system.The method is based on digital source coding and digital channel coding.The method employs techniques such as two-point modulation and second modulation,which is compatible with the standard of Digital Private Mobile Radio(DPMR).The method is implemented through research and development.The result of experiments shows that the receiving sensitivity of the system reaches -110 dBm.The system can meet the demands of long-distance voice communication or long-distance data communication with medium or low bit rate.

Abstract:The advent of Bluetooth wireless technology makes it possible to transmit real-time audio in mobile devices. Bluetooth is cost-efficient and power-efficient, but it is not suitable for traditional audio encoding and real-time streaming due to limited bandwidth, high degree of error rates, and the time-varying nature of the radio link. Therefore, audio streaming over Bluetooth poses problems such as guzzling of both power and bandwidth. In order to overcome the above mentioned problems, an algorithm is proposed in this work to optimize the audio stream from the source to the sink by estimating the proximity between them. The optimization is achieved by adjusting the bit rate of the audio stream thus conserving power. We considered carefully various Bluetooth signal parameters and the most suitable parameter for estimating the proximity has been determined experimentally. The experiments were carried out using Class II BS003 Bluesoleil dongle. This work will enable the Bluetooth users to perform a seamless and optimized streaming of MP3 stereo audio data.

Abstract:In order to satisfy the demand of future Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) with high mobility, high data rate and low cost, Tsinghua University proposes a novel BWA system named BRadio with independent intellectual property rights. This paper describes the BRadio system from the aspects of physical layer technologies, Medium Access Control (MAC), networking methods, and services. The physical layer technologies focus on Time domain and Frequency domain United Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (TFU-OFDMA), Time domain and Frequency domain United Single Carrier Modulation time division multiple Access (TFU-SCMA), Interleave Division Multiple Access (IDMA), and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). In MAC layer we describe several new functionalities in BRadio system. The networking methods of BRadio are divided into networking independently and networking with the existing networks. BRadio can support various services, among which, the Personal Media Service (PMS) is presented in detail. Relying on the technical superiority of its high data rate, high mobility and low cost, as well as its flexible networking and comprehensive service platform, BRadio has become a potential technical solution for BWA.

Abstract:With the rapid development of wireless communication technologies, interference management (IM) and security/privacy in data transmission have become critically important. On one hand, due to the broadcast nature of wireless medium, the interference superimposed on the desired signal can destroy the integrity of data transmission. On the other hand, malicious receivers (Rxs) may eavesdrop a legitimate user's transmission and thus breach the confidentiality of communication. To counter these threats, we propose a novel encoding method, called immunizing coding (iCoding), which handles both IM and physical-layer security simultaneously. By exploiting both channel state information (CSI) and data carried in the interference, an iCoded signal is generated and sent by the legitimate transmitter (Tx). The iCoded signal interacts with the interference at the desired/legitimate Rx, so that the intended data can be recovered without the influence of disturbance, i.e., immunity to interference. In addition, since the data carried in the iCoded signal which is obtained via encoding the desired data and interference cooperatively, is different from the original desired data, the eavesdropper cannot access unauthorized information by wiretapping the desired signal, thus achieving immunity to eavesdropping. Our theoretical analysis, experimental and numerical evaluation have shown iCoding to effectively manage interference while preventing potential eavesdropping, hence enhancing the legitimate user's transmission and secrecy thereof.

Due to the sensitivity of those commands and data, security mechanisms, such as encryption, authentication, and authorization, have been developed and adopted in the standards. Nevertheless, vulnerabilities continue to be discovered. In the literature, few successful attacks against the Bluetooth connection establishment stage have been reported. Many attacks simply assume that connections are already established or use a compromised agent, e.g, a malicious app or a careless user, to initialize the connection. We argue that such assumptions are strong and impractical. A stealthily established connection is a critical starting point for any practical attack against Bluetooth devices. In this paper, we demonstrate that the Bluetooth Specification contains a series of vulnerabilities that will enable an attacker to impersonate a Bluetooth device and successfully establish a connection with a victim device. The entire process does not require any involvement of the device owner/user or any malicious app on the victim device. The attacker could further escalate permissions by switching Bluetooth profiles to retrieve sensitive information from the victim device and inject arbitrary commands. We name our new attack as the Blacktooth Attack. To demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of the Blacktooth attack, we evaluate it against 21 different Bluetooth devices with diverse manufacturers and operating systems, and all major Bluetooth versions. We show that the newly proposed attack is successful on all victim devices.

Abstract:Enabling direct communication between wireless technologies immediately brings significant benefits including, but not limited to, cross-technology interference mitigation and context-aware smart operation. To explore the opportunities, we propose FreeBee-a novel cross-technology communication technique for direct unicast as well as cross-technology/channel broadcast among three popular technologies of WiFi, ZigBee, and Bluetooth. The key concept of FreeBee is to modulate symbol messages by shifting the timings of periodic beacon frames already mandatory for diverse wireless standards. This keeps our design generically applicable across technologies and avoids additional bandwidth consumption i.e., does not incur extra traffic, allowing continuous broadcast to safely reach mobile and/or duty-cycled devices. A new interval multiplexing technique is proposed to enable concurrent broadcasts from multiple senders or boost the transmission rate of a single sender. Theoretical and experimental exploration reveals that FreeBee offers a reliable symbol delivery under a second and supports mobility of 30 mph and low duty-cycle operations of under 5%.

Abstract:A combined source coding and channel coding scheme is proposed for efficient image transmission over the bandwidth limited radio channel. Abstract:According to the scenarios of fewer nodes with less mobility, a practical approach to Ad hoc based on Bluetooth is proposed, including the design of network routing, application framework and a distributed path discovery algorithm which is easily implemented in L2CAP (logical link control and adaptation protocol) layer of Bluetooth. In order to verify and test the approach, an experimental system is implemented. Combining with the test data, performances of Ad hoc based on Bluetooth is theoretically derived and comparatively analyzed in detail, including the analysis of linking time, bandwidth and average delay. It is concluded that this approach to Ad hoc based on Bluetooth is fit for multi-hop communication and text, voice and video communication can be well supported.

Abstract:Bluetooth which operates in the 2.4GHz ISM band provides short range, low cost, low power pico-cellular wireless connectivity. It intends to become the Wireless Personal Area Network standard itself. The Bluetooth specification proposes a Round Robin scheduler as possible solution for scheduling slaves in a Bluetooth Piconet. However, this basic scheme performs badly under asymmetric traffic conditions. Recently, several polling schemes have been proposed to improve performance on asymmetric transmissions and to enhance the performance of real-time traffic. In this paper, we present a new polling algorithm for Bluetooth Piconet that supports both delay and bandwidth guarantees and aims to remain fair and efficient with asymmetric flow rates. We present an extensive set of simulations and provide performance comparisons with Round Robin. And the results show that the performance of our algorithm can be better than that of the Round Robin. In addition, our modification does not introduce any control overhead. © 2005 IEEE.
