Abstract:Abstract In this paper we will study the dynamics of the periodic asymmetric oscillator xʺ + q+(t)x+ + q–(t)x– = 0, where q+; q– ∊ L1(ℝ / 2πℤ) and x+ = max(x; 0), x– = min(x; 0) for x ∊ ℝ. It will be proved that the exponential growth rate does exist for each non-zero solution x(t) of the oscillator. The properties of these rates, or the Lyapunov exponents, will be given using the induced circle di®eomorphism of the oscillator. The proof is extensively based on the Denjoy theorem in topological dynamics and the unique ergodicity theorem in ergodic theory.

Asymptotic Behavior Of Solutions For Systems Of Periodic Reaction-Diffusion Equations In Unbounded Domains

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of the time-dependent solutions to a coupled system of reaction-diffusion equations with periodic coefficients in unbounded domains, including the whole space R-n, the exterior Omega(e) of a bounded domain and the half-space R-+(n) = {x = (x(1), . . . , x(n)) is an element of R-n; x(n) > 0}, under Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is shown that if the reaction function in the system possesses a mixed quasi monotone property and the corresponding periodic system has a pair of coupled upper and lower solutions then the periodic system has a pair of quasi-solutions and the sector between the quasi-solutions is an attractor of the system of periodic reaction-diffusion equations. Under some additional conditions this attractor leads to the asymptotic stability of a periodic solution for the periodic system. The approach to the problem is based on the method of upper and lower solutions, a ladder argument and a bootstrap technique. Finally, a competitor-competitor-mutualist model is given to illustrate the obtained results.

Abstract:In this paper we study the dynamical behavior of the differential equationx″+ax+−bx−=f(t), where x+=max⁡{x,0}, x−=max⁡{−x,0}, a and b are two different positive constants, f(t) is a real analytic almost periodic function. For this purpose, firstly, we have to establish some variants of the invariant curve theorem of planar almost periodic mappings, which was proved recently by the authors (see [11]). Then we will discuss the existence of almost periodic solutions and the boundedness of all solutions for the above asymmetric oscillation.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors are concerned with the forced isochronous oscillators with a repulsive singularity and a bounded nonlinearityx '' + V'(x) + g( x) = e(t, x, x'),where the assumptions on V, g and e are regular, described precisely in the introduction. Using a variant of Moser's twist theorem of invariant curves, the authors show the existence of quasi-periodic solutions and boundedness of all solutions. This extends the result of Liu to the case of the above system where e depends on the velocity.

Abstract:Out-of-time-ordered correlators (OTOCs) are an effective tool in characterizing black hole chaos, many-body thermalization, and quantum dynamics instability. Previous research findings have shown that the OTOCs' exponential growth (EG) marks the limit for quantum systems. However, we report in this paper a periodically-modulated nonlinear Schrödinger system, in which we interestingly find a way of OTOCs' growth: super-EG. We show that the quantum OTOCs, which stems from the quantum chaotic dynamics, will increase in a super-exponential way. We also find that in the classical limit, the hyper-chaos revealed by a linearly-increasing Lyapunov exponent actually triggers the super-EG of classical OTOCs. The results in this paper break the restraints of EG as the limit for quantum systems, which give us insight into the nature of quantum chaos in various fields of physics from black hole to many-body system.

Periodic Solutions of a Delay Differential Equation with a Periodic Multiplier

Abstract:A simple non-autonomous scalar differential equation with delay, exponential decay, nonlinear negative feedback and a periodic multiplicative coefficient is considered. It is shown that stable slowly oscillating periodic solutions with the period of the feedback coefficient, and also with the double period of the feedback coefficient exist. The periodic solutions are built explicitly in the case of piecewise constant feedback function and the periodic coefficient. The periodic dynamics are shown to persist under small perturbations of the equation which make it smooth. The results are confirmed and illustrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the definition of Q factor for nonlinear oscillators. While available definitions of Q are often limited to linear resonators or oscillators with specific topologies, our definition is applicable to any oscillator as a figure of merit for its amplitude stability. It can be formulated rigorously and computed numerically from oscillator equations. With this definition, we calculate and analyze the Q factors of several oscillators of different types. The results confirm that the proposed Q formulation is a useful addition to the characterization techniques for oscillators.

Abstract:In this paper, we will give some optimal estimates on the rotation number of the linear equation x + p(t)x = 0, and that of the asymmetric equation x + p(t)x(+) + q(t)x(-) = 0, where p(t) and q(t) are almost periodic functions and x(+) = max {x,0}, x(-) = min {x,0}. These estimates are obtained by introducing some kind of new norms in the spaces of almost periodic functions.
Oscillatory solutions at the continuum limit of Lorenz 96 systems

Abstract:In this paper, we study the generation and propagation of oscillatory solutions observed in the widely used Lorenz 96 (L96) systems. First, period-two oscillations between adjacent grid points are found in the leading-order expansions of the discrete L96 system. The evolution of the envelope of period-two oscillations is described by a set of modulation equations with strictly hyperbolic structure. The modulation equations are found to be also subject to an additional reaction term dependent on the grid size, and the period-two oscillations will break down into fully chaotic dynamics when the oscillation amplitude grows large. Then, similar oscillation solutions are analyzed in the two-layer L96 model including multiscale coupling. Modulation equations for period-three oscillations are derived based on a weakly nonlinear analysis in the transition between oscillatory and nonoscillatory regions. Detailed numerical experiments are shown to confirm the analytical results.
