Abstract:In this article, we study an oscillating multiplier operator T_α ,β , 0<α <1 , on an n -dimensional (n≥ 2) compact connected manifold ( 𝕄,g) without boundary. We prove that T_α ,β is bounded on Hardy spaces H^p( 𝕄) , 0<p<∞ , if and only if | 1/2-1/p| ≤β/(nα ) . We also obtain that T_α ,β is bounded on L^1( 𝕄) if and only if β >(n α )/2 . These results are analogues of some well-known theorems on ℝ^n by Wainger, Fefferman-Stein, Sjölin and Miyachi. Our results also extend previous theorems on compact Lie groups.
Irrationality of generic quotient varieties via Bogomolov multipliers

Abstract:The Bogomolov multiplier of a group is the unramified Brauer group associated to the quotient variety of a faithful representation of the group. This object is an obstruction for the quotient variety to be stably rational. The purpose of this paper is to study these multipliers associated to nilpotent pro-$p$ groups by transporting them to their associated Lie algebras. Special focus is set on the case of $p$-adic Lie groups of nilpotency class $2$, where we analyse the moduli space. This is then applied to give information on asymptotic behaviour of multipliers of finite images of such groups of exponent $p$. We show that with fixed $n$ and increasing $p$, a positive proportion of these groups of order $p^n$ have trivial multipliers. On the other hand, we show that by fixing $p$ and increasing $n$, log-generic groups of order $p^n$ have non-trivial multipliers. Whence quotient varieties of faithful representations of log-generic $p$-groups are not stably rational. Applications in non-commutative Iwasawa theory are developed.

Abstract:Let 0 < p ≤ 1 < q < ∞, and ω1, ω2 ∈ A1 (Muckenhoupt-class). We study an oscillating multiplier operator Tγ,β and obtain that it is bounded on the homogeneous weighted Herz-type Hardy spaces when . Also, for the unweighted case, we obtain the boundedness of Tγ,β under certain conditions on γ. These results are substantial improvements and extensions of the main results in the papers by Li and Lu and by Cao and Sun. As an application, we prove the boundedness of the spherical average S uniformly on t > 0.

Abstract:Let $G$ be the semidirect product $N \rtimes \mathbb{R}$, where $N$ is a stratified Lie group and $\mathbb{R}$ acts on $N$ via automorphic dilations. Homogeneous left-invariant sub-Laplacians on $N$ and $\mathbb{R}$ can be lifted to $G$, and their sum $\Delta$ is a left-invariant sub-Laplacian on $G$. In previous joint work of Ottazzi, Vallarino and the first-named author, a spectral multiplier theorem of Mihlin--Hörmander type was proved for $\Delta$, showing that an operator of the form $F(\Delta)$ is of weak type $(1,1)$ and bounded on $L^p(G)$ for all $p \in (1,\infty)$ provided $F$ satisfies a scale-invariant smoothness condition of order $s > (Q+1)/2$, where $Q$ is the homogeneous dimension of $N$. Here we show that, if $N$ is a group of Heisenberg type, or more generally a direct product of Métivier and abelian groups, then the smoothness condition can be pushed down to the sharp threshold $s>(d+1)/2$, where $d$ is the topological dimension of $N$. The proof is based on lifting to $G$ weighted Plancherel estimates on $N$ and exploits a relation between the functional calculi for $\Delta$ and analogous operators on semidirect extensions of Bessel--Kingman hypergroups.

A maximal oscillatory operator on compact manifolds

Abstract:This is a continuation of our previous research about an oscillatory integral operator $T_{\alpha, \beta}$ on compact manifolds $\mathbb{M}$. We prove the sharp $H^{p}$-$L^{p,\infty}$ boundedness on the maximal operator $T^{*}_{\alpha, \beta}$ for all $0<p<1$. As applications, we first prove the sharp $H^{p}$-$L^{p,\infty}$ boundedness on the maximal operator corresponding to the Riesz means $I_{k,\alpha}(|\mathcal{L}|)$ associated with the Schrödinger type group $e^{is\mathcal{L}^{\alpha/2}}$ and obtain the almost everywhere convergence of $I_{k,\alpha}(|\mathcal{L}|)f(x,t)\to f(x)$ for all $f\in H^{p}$. Also, we are able to obtain the convergence speed of a combination operator from the solutions of the Cauchy problem of fractional Schrödinger equations. All results are even new on the n-torus $T^{n}$.

A Hörmander-Mikhlin theorem for high rank simple Lie groups

Abstract:We establish regularity conditions for $L_p$-boundedness of Fourier multipliers on the group von Neumann algebras of higher rank simple Lie groups. This provides a natural Hörmander-Mikhlin criterion in terms of Lie derivatives of the symbol and a metric given by the adjoint representation. In line with Lafforgue/de la Salle's rigidity theorem, our condition imposes certain decay of the symbol at infinity. It refines and vastly generalizes a recent result by Parcet, Ricard and de la Salle for $\SL$. Our approach is partly based on a sharp local Hörmander-Mikhlin theorem for arbitrary Lie groups, which follows in turn from recent estimates by the authors on singular nonToeplitz Schur multipliers. We generalize the latter to arbitrary locally compact groups and refine the cocycle-based approach to Fourier multipliers in group algebras by Junge, Mei and Parcet. A few related open problems are also discussed.

Abstract:We prove Strichartz estimates on any compact connected simple Lie group. In the diagonal case of Bourgain's exponents $p=q,$ we provide a new regularity order $s_{0}^{R}(p)$ in the sense that our (reverse) Strichartz estimates are valid when $s> s_{0}^{R}(p)$ and when $p\rightarrow 2^{+}.$ As expected our Sobolev index satisfies the estimate $ s_{0}^{R}(p)>s_{0}(d)=\frac{d}{2}-\frac{d+2}{p}.$ Motivated by the recent progress in the field, in the spirit of the analytical number theory methods developed by Bourgain in the analysis of periodic Schrödinger equations, we link the problem of finding Strichartz estimates on compact Lie groups with the problem of counting the number of representations $r_{s,2}(R)$ of an integer number $R$ as a sum of $s$ squares, and then, we implicitly use the very well known bounds for $r_{s,2}(R)$ from the Hardy-Littlewood-Ramanujan circle method. In our analysis, we explicitly compute the parametrisation of the spectrum of the Laplacian (modulo a factor depending on the geometry of the group) in terms of sums of squares. As a byproduct, our approach also yields explicit expressions for the spectrum of the Laplacian on all compact connected simple Lie groups, providing also a number of results for Strichartz estimates in the borderline case $p=2.$

Abstract:We prove a sharp bound for the minimal doubling of a small measurable subset of a compact connected Lie group. Namely, let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group of dimension $d_G$, we show that for for all measurable subsets $A$, we have $$\mu_G(A^2) \geq \left(2^{d_G-d_H} - C\mu_G(A)^{\frac{2}{d_G-d_H}}\right)\mu_G(A)$$ where $d_H$ is the maximal dimension of a proper closed subgroup $H$ and $C > 0$ is a dimensional constant. This settles a conjecture of Breuillard and Green, and recovers and improves - with completely different methods - a recent result of Jing--Tran--Zhang corresponding to the case $G=SO_3(\mathbb{R})$. As is often the case, the above doubling inequality stems from a special case of general product-set estimates. We prove that for all $\epsilon >0$ and for any pair of sufficiently small measurable subsets $A,B$ a Brunn--Minkowski-type inequality holds:

Abstract:The Diophantine exponent of an action of a group on a homogeneous space, as defined by Ghosh, Gorodnik, and Nevo, quantifies the complexity of approximating the points of the homogeneous space by the points on an orbit of the group. We show that the Diophantine exponent of the SL n ( Z [ 1 / p ] ) -action on the generalized upper half-space SL n ( R ) / SO n ( R ) , lies in [ 1 , 1 + O ( 1 / n ) ] , substantially improving upon Ghosh–Gorodnik–Nevo's method which gives the above range to be [ 1 , n − 1 ] . We also show that the exponent is optimal, i.e. equals one, under the assumption of Sarnak's density hypothesis. The result, in particular, shows that the optimality of Diophantine exponents can be obtained even when the temperedness of the underlying representations, the crucial assumption in Ghosh–Gorodnik–Nevo's work, is not satisfied. The proof uses the spectral decomposition of the homogeneous space and bounds on the local L 2 -norms of the Eisenstein series.

Endpoint estimates for higher order Marcinkiewicz multipliers

Abstract:We consider Marcinkiewicz multipliers of any lacunary order defined by means of uniformly bounded variation on each lacunary Littlewood--Paley interval of some fixed order $\tau\geq 1$. We prove the optimal endpoint bounds for such multipliers as a corollary of a more general endpoint estimate for a class of multipliers introduced by Coifman, Rubio de Francia and Semmes and further studied by Tao and Wright. Our methods also yield the best possible endpoint mapping property for higher order Hörmander-Mihlin multipliers, namely multipliers which are singular on every point of a lacunary set of order $\tau$. These results can be considered as endpoint versions of corresponding results of Sjögren and Sjölin. Finally our methods generalize a weak square function characterization of the space $L\log^{1/2}L$ in terms of a square function introduced by Tao and Wright: we realize such a weak characterization as the dual of the Chang--Wilson--Wolff inequality, thus giving corresponding weak square function characterizations for the spaces $L\log^{\tau/2}L$ for general integer orders $\tau\geq 1$.

Abstract:This paper studies the $L^{p}$ boundedness of bilinear Fourier multipliers in the local $L^{2}$ range. We assume a Hörmander condition relative to a singular set that is a finite union of Lipschitz curves. The Hörmander condition is sharp with respect to the Sobolev exponent. Our setup generalizes the non-degenerate bilinear Hilbert transform but avoids issues of uniform bounds near degeneracy.
