Abstract:A multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model is developed for predicting electromagnetic wave coupling effects with multitwisted bundle of twisted-wire pairs (MTB-TWP) running above a ground plane. Such MTB-TWP is described as a sequential repeated structure, where all its parameters are formulated in terms of sequences. In particular, the parametric equations of all the wires are derived and described by a set of generalized equations, where the unit tangent vector for each wire is also determined analytically. In addition, the averaged per-unit-length (p.u.l.) parameters are described by recurrence formulas. Further, the equivalent voltages for describing the field-to-wire coupling of MTB-TWP are obtained and determined analytically. The modal domain decomposition is performed with special loading terminals to split out the common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) signals, where the CM-to-DM conversions are further investigated in order to indicate the balanced property in such MTB-TWP system. On the other hand, the effect of dielectric coatings of all the wires is also characterized, where the averaged modal p.u.l. capacitance matrix is obtained numerically. A comparison is performed with the other wiring structures to visualize the benefits of our MTB-TWP model. An extended MTL model is also validated in comparison with the commercial software FEKO.

Abstract:In this paper, a transmission line model is established to describe the electromagnetic wave coupling with transmission line cables from far and near fields. The far-field is described by a plane wave, whereas the near field is considered to be generated by a dipole antenna. Consequently, the affecting electric field due to the plane waves and electric dipole antenna are formulated analytically. In addition, a general expression for the current and voltage at both ends of the transmission line are presented. The model is used to fast calculate the induced common mode and differential mode currents at the cable terminals when the cable is exposed to electromagnetic interference from far and near fields. The results of the proposed analytical model are compared with those of commercial software FEKO, and good agreements are obtained.

Abstract:An efficient multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model of a shielded twisted wire pair (TWP) with apertures on its sheath is developed for predicting common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) currents induced in the shielded TWP cable. Its transfer impedance and admittance with one-line apertures on its sheath are derived in a closed form. Therefore, the MTL equations are formulated and solved to obtain the CM and DM currents induced in the shielded TWP. Moreover, the proposed MTL model is generalized to be applicable for the braided-shielded TWP, in which the transfer impedance and admittance are formulated analytically. Results showed that the induced DM current inside the braided-shielded TWP is suppressed dramatically due to the uniform structure of the cable. The models are validated by comparing their results with those obtained by the commercial software FEKO; good agreements are obtained.

Abstract:In this article, the transmission line model of multibraided shielded cables is improved by including the proximity effect in the shield model. This is performed by deriving the analytical expressions of the transfer impedance and admittance of a shielded structure with nonuniform current distribution around the shield surfaces. After that, the formulations are generalized to be applicable for shielded twisted-wire pair (TWP) and twinax cables with line apertures and braided structure with nonuniform shield current. It is found that the nonuniform distribution of the currents in the outer and inner shield surfaces have high effects on the inner induced common-mode and differential-mode currents of braided shielded cables. In addition, the crosstalk between multishielded TWP and twinax cables is investigated in detail, indicating that the proximity effects between the shields have a critical impact on generating the crosstalk between the shielded cables. The proposed model is validated with the commercial software FEKO and excellent agreements are achieved.

Abstract:An efficient analytical model for the transfer impedance and admittance of a noncoaxial/twinax braided-shielded cable with apertures on its sheath is proposed by generalizing the old Vance's and Kley's formulas, and it is derived using the complex analyses with an appropriate conformal mapping. Therefore, such a noncoaxial cable is converted into a coaxial one which can be studied using the traditional multiconductor transmission line method. It is shown that the aperture inductance is related to the position of the inner conductor and the radial position of each aperture on its sheath. In addition, the modal domain analysis is performed to obtain the common-mode (CM) and differential-mode (DM) transfer impedance/admittance of the twinax braided-shielded cable, with CM and DM currents inside the inner conductors examined. The proposed model is validated by comparing the results with that obtained by the method of moments (MoM)-based commercial software FEKO. It is found that the uniform distribution of the apertures on the sheath reduces the induced DM current significantly

Abstract:A transmission line model is generalized to characterize the effect of electromagnetic plane wave coupling with shielded twisted wire pair (TWP)/twinax cables with apertures on their shield. The model is applied in order to predict the response of the shielded TWP/twinax cables by obtaining the induced common-mode (CM) and differential-mode (DM) currents due to external electromagnetic interference. Therefore, the eld-to-wire coupling to the outer shield is solved by applying the transmission line model. After that, the transfer impedance and admittance of the shield with line apertures are used to model the coupling from the outer shield to the inner wires. It is shown that the shielded TWP has better performance than the twinax cable in reducing the external interference. The results are validated using the commercial software FEKO, where a good agreement is obtained.

Abstract:A multiconductor transmission line model is developed to characterize electromagnetic wave coupling with a twisted bundle of twisted wire pairs (TBTWPs) running above a ground plane. A set of parametric equations of each wire in each bundle is derived at first, together with its unit tangent vector defined analytically. Furthermore, its averaged per-unit-length parameters are determined according to the derived analytical equations, and the equivalent voltages for describing field-wire coupling are presented. The proposed model is employed for predicting both common mode and differential mode currents induced at different terminal loads of the TBTWP, where fire-side, end-fire, broad-side, and arbitrary electromagnetic wave incidences are investigated. The numerical results of our model are validated in comparison with that of the commercial software FEKO, with good agreement achieved between them. Furthermore, such TBTWP model can be extended for studying electromagnetic wave coupling with multiple TBTWPs employed in many cable systems.

Abstract:We Transmission line circuit model,telegraph equations(a hyperbolic partial differential equations),is the starting point of analyzing transmission lines transient process.A simple and quick and effective numerical solution in time domain has been deduced by the aid of circuit theory and computational mathematics and program design.The partial differential equation group has been discretized with the theory of FDTD solution,therefore a bran-new differential computation formation has been obtained.Furthermore,boundary conditions of the basic lumped equivalent circuit mode have been found according to constraints between voltage and current at the ends of lines.Finally voltage and current waveforms has been obtained by simulation.Matlab is used for the simulation of the transient of transmission line under various boundary conditions,various coupling conditions.Simulation results from Matlab are compared with waveforms by the EMTP-ATP simulation software,the efficient of the method is proved.

Abstract:Accurate evaluation of transmission line model at high frequencies for characterizing field-to-wire coupling of coated twisted wire pair (TWP) with a grounded conductor is performed in this paper. We derive the main steps to solve the TWP problem. Further, such coated TWP with a ground conductor is simulated for different geometrical parameters of the TWP, and different incident wave frequencies, directions and polarization angles. In particular, the approximation condition of TLM model is examined in detail, and most results calculated by the TLM model are beyond 1GHz but below 5GHz. The captured common mode and differential mode currents are compared with that of commercial software FEKO, but the cost for TLM model simulation is very low.

Abstract:In this article, deep neural network (DNN) and chain parameter methods are used to analyze the crosstalk coupling of a star-quad and a twisted bundle of twisted wire pairs (TBTWP) cables for different excitations, respectively. A DNN is used to extract the per-unit-length (p.u.l) resistance, inductance, capacitance, and conductance (RLCG) parameters at any position for the star-quad and TBTWP cables. The induced common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) currents due to crosstalk are calculated by combining the obtained RLCG parameters with the chain parameter method. The obtained results show good agreement with that of FEKO software. Moreover, it is found that the star-quad cable can reduce the external coupling more effectively than that of the TBTWP cable. Finally, measurements are performed to further validate the accuracy of our proposed algorithm.

Abstract:Efficient evaluation of the scattered field radiated by transmission line cables is proposed in this paper. The common-mode (CM) equivalent circuit is applied to the transmission line cables for circuit simplification, then the transmission line model is implemented to obtain the CM current generated along the cables due to the plane wave excitation. Therefore, the scattered field is calculated from the obtained CM current and it is found that it is identical to the one obtained by the MoM method for the original transmission line circuit.

Abstract:A generalized multi-conductor transmission (MTL) line model is developed for predicting electromagnetic wave coupling effects with multi-twisted bundle of twisted-wire pairs (MTB-TWP) above a ground with random non-uniform twisting. The twist pitches of the MTB-TWP are considered to be spatial stochastic functions. Then, the parametric equations of the nonuniform MTB-TWP are derived in their general form. In addition, the effect of non-synchronism during the twisting and incomplete terminal twist on the common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) currents are investigated. Moreover, to imitate the real life disturbances, the twist pitches are assumed to follow Gaussian stochastic noises. After that, Monte Carlo simulations are carried out, hence, it is shown that the DM currents are very sensitive to the geometry of the twisting whereas the CM current is slightly effected. The MTL model is validated in comparison with MoM results and good agreements are obtained.

Abstract:A novel approach to derive nonuniform transmission line equations for curvilinear multiconductor systems is presented by directly using the scalar and vector potentials associated with boundary conditions. The per-unit-length parameters of the line can be obtained simultaneously in derivation and are explicitly given for straight conductor systems as an example. Results for a bent conductor of different radii over ground plane also verify the approach.

Abstract:A novel approach to analyze curvilinear multiconductor transmission line systems is presented. Non-uniform transmission line equations for the systems are obtained and solved by using chain matrix approach. Crosstalk and reflection due to discontinuities such as bend and changes of radii are investigated. Per-unit-length parameters for the lines are discussed as well. It is observed that the discontinuities will increase the crosstalk significantly and bending will substantially increase crosstalk at the driving end.

Abstract:The cutoff wavenumbers, cutoff frequencies, field distributions and dispersive characteristics of TM and TE modes (higher order modes) in eccentric coaxial lines are carefully calculated by a new method directly based on the finite difference method (FDM) in bipolar coordinate system (BCS). Detailed comparisons with the previous results in the literature demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method. Several characteristic features of the field distributions and the dispersion relations are also indicated. This method and its variations are very suitable and efficient for the computation of electromagnetic field problems in transmission lines with eccentric parallel cylinders.

Abstract:Compared with overhead lines, the three-core armored cables of the distribution network have different electromagnetic and propagation characteristics. First of all, the electromagnetic coupling relationship of the cable is complex, and the multi-conductor structure including a three-phase guide core, three-phase metal shield and armor has significant electromagnetic coupling. Second, the cable laid in the same trench will appear coupling effect affecting the line selection of the traveling wave method, and it is related to the grounding mode of the shield layer. In this paper, the model of a three-core armored cable in the distribution network is established, and the general method of decoupling is obtained by analogy with overhead lines. The influence of the change of the shape of the wave head caused by the characteristics of the transient modulus propagation in the cable and the coupling between cables caused by the same ditch laying on the route selection by the traveling wave method is discussed. Finally, simulation software is used to reproduce the failure of the traveling wave method caused by the above factors, which provides a reference for optimizing the line selection logic in actual power grid operation.
Extraction of L Parameters for Closely Separated Multiconductor Transmission Lines over a Finitely Conducting Ground

Abstract:In this paper, a method is presented to extract the per-unit-length inductance matrix L for closely separated multiconductor transmission lines having conductors with any kind of cross sections over a finitely conducting ground in frequency domain. First, the L over a perfect conducting ground is obtained from the per-unit-length capacitance matrix C by using finite element method. Then the effect of the perfect conducting ground is replaced by that of the finitely conducting ground. Thus, the proximity effect, the effects of both noncircular cross section and finitely conducting ground are taken into account. Some transmission properties of the cables on the chassis of a fuel cell bus made of steel frame is analyzed.

Abstract:A theoretical method of in-plane mode and natural frequency of multi-span transmission lines is presented. The main idea is to establish moment balance equations of each insulator string and in-plane vertical motion equation of each span in multi-span section when the effect of conductor inertia component parallel to the chord on the additional horizontal tension of conductor is considered. The validity of theoretical mode and natural frequency is demonstrated by consistency with the numerical results of a typical five-span transmission line based on ABAQUS. It is shown that the mode of the five-span transmission line with a larger elasto-geometrical parameter exhibits asymmetrical shape that differed from those of single-span conductor. Considering the complexity of the theoretical expression, a simplified theoretical formulation of the modes and natural frequencies of multi-span transmission lines is obtained. Based on the curve of the frequency changing with the elasto-geometrical parameter, the various internal resonance conditions are discussed.
