Abstract:We Transmission line circuit model,telegraph equations(a hyperbolic partial differential equations),is the starting point of analyzing transmission lines transient process.A simple and quick and effective numerical solution in time domain has been deduced by the aid of circuit theory and computational mathematics and program design.The partial differential equation group has been discretized with the theory of FDTD solution,therefore a bran-new differential computation formation has been obtained.Furthermore,boundary conditions of the basic lumped equivalent circuit mode have been found according to constraints between voltage and current at the ends of lines.Finally voltage and current waveforms has been obtained by simulation.Matlab is used for the simulation of the transient of transmission line under various boundary conditions,various coupling conditions.Simulation results from Matlab are compared with waveforms by the EMTP-ATP simulation software,the efficient of the method is proved.

Abstract:A novel approach to analyze curvilinear multiconductor transmission line systems is presented. Non-uniform transmission line equations for the systems are obtained and solved by using chain matrix approach. Crosstalk and reflection due to discontinuities such as bend and changes of radii are investigated. Per-unit-length parameters for the lines are discussed as well. It is observed that the discontinuities will increase the crosstalk significantly and bending will substantially increase crosstalk at the driving end.

Abstract:This paper characterizes the frequency domain near-field coupling effects from complicated three-dimensional transmission lines, monopole/dipole radiators, and printed circuit boards (PCBs) located in a metallic rectangular cavity with an efficient iterative fast Fourier transform-accelerated integral-equation method. The simulation method combines the rectangular-cavity Green's functions with the frequency-domain electric field integral equation, which is further accelerated by the extension of adaptive integral method for rectangular cavities. By using this method, the near-field coupling effects and internal field distributions are captured and compared with independent references for various structures, including transmission lines, monopole/dipole radiators, and PCBs in rectangular cavities. Numerical results show that strong couplings do appear at multiple resonant frequencies of the structures. In addition, this method can be further employed to mitigate and suppress near-field coupling effects in the optimization of electromagnetic compatibility/interference designs.

Abstract:A novel approach to derive nonuniform transmission line equations for curvilinear multiconductor systems is presented by directly using the scalar and vector potentials associated with boundary conditions. The per-unit-length parameters of the line can be obtained simultaneously in derivation and are explicitly given for straight conductor systems as an example. Results for a bent conductor of different radii over ground plane also verify the approach.

Abstract:In this paper, a transmission line model is established to describe the electromagnetic wave coupling with transmission line cables from far and near fields. The far-field is described by a plane wave, whereas the near field is considered to be generated by a dipole antenna. Consequently, the affecting electric field due to the plane waves and electric dipole antenna are formulated analytically. In addition, a general expression for the current and voltage at both ends of the transmission line are presented. The model is used to fast calculate the induced common mode and differential mode currents at the cable terminals when the cable is exposed to electromagnetic interference from far and near fields. The results of the proposed analytical model are compared with those of commercial software FEKO, and good agreements are obtained.

Abstract:A hybrid time-domain numerical method based on the full wave finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method combined with a modified 1-D FDTD method has been proposed to analyze the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of multiscale transmission line networks in a metallic cabin in this article. This method is implemented through two numerical solvers for full wave and transmission line simulations, respectively, by adopting a set of reasonable physical boundary conditions between external fields and transmission line network. By using Ampere's law, the external fields can be transferred to a voltage source that can be further used as the forcing terms in the telegraph equation of the transmission line network. To overcome the challenge introduced by the multiscale size of the transmission line network, we combine 1-D explicit and implicit FDTD methods together to solve the coaxial cables and interconnects in PCB, respectively. Thus, among different subdomains, the hybrid method can be carried with the same time step without the restriction of the stability condition. Numerical examples show the accuracy as well as efficiency of the proposed method compared with the HSPICE and traditional FDTD method. In addition, the method is used successfully in analyzing the EMI effects of a complex transmission line network inside a cabin illuminated by external electromagnetic wave.

Abstract:This letter proposes a novel hybrid finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method, which combines the full-wave FDTD (2, 4) method with a thin-wire model, a transmission-line equation, the Kirchhoff's law, and a two-port equivalent-circuit FDTD model, where antenna-cable coupling model and modified nodal analysismethod are also implemented through a set of proper boundary conditions. In our method, both coaxial cable and thinwire antenna are treated together without geometric meshing for full-wave simulation, and all the coupling processes among fields, transmission line equations, and circuit loads are carried out at the same time step. Such hybrid method is verified by comparing with both PSPICE and traditional FDTD method, and good agreements are obtained. Further, the proposed method is successfully applied to predict the transient electromagnetic responses of some complex transmission line networks in a vehicle-based metallic shelter.

Abstract:This article proposes a novel hybrid finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method to calculate the transient responses of the transmission line network based on the leapfrog alternating direction implicit FDTD (leapfrog ADI-FDTD) algorithm and the traditional FDTD method. The proposed hybrid method can be implemented by dividing the transmission line network into two parts that are the interconnects part in a printed circuit board solved by the leapfrog ADI-FDTD and the cable part solved by the traditional FDTD with different mesh sizes and the same time step, respectively. In addition, some boundary conditions should be introduced based on the modified nodal approach and Kirchhoff's law at the terminals of the transmission line network. The numerical results show that the proposed hybrid method is in good agreement with HSPICE. Especially, it is more efficient and applicative for the multiscale transmission line network problems due to the use of the implicit FDTD solver with unconditional stability compared with the traditional FDTD method.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the frequency-domain EMC/EMI problems including complicated transmission lines and printed circuit boards (PCBs) that reside in metallic rectangular cavities, by using an efficient iterative Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-accelerated integral-equation method. The internal field distribution and near-field coupling/interference of multiple transmission-lines and PCBs in cavities can be extensively investigated with this method, which further enables the optimization of EMC/EMI design to effectively suppress near-field coupling effects for complicated multi-PCBs and transmission lines.

Abstract:Under a particular geometrical arrangements of impedances of the type resistors and capacitors for the modeling of a transmission line, the voltage and current along the line are known to follow the standard partial differential equation of diffusion. In this work we propose a generalization of this circuit network by considering the non-ideal fractional capacitive element, also known as constant phase element (CPE), as the energy storage component. The CPE's impedance is given by Zc(s)=1/(Cαsα) , where Cα>0 and 0<α⩽1 , and offers an extra degree of freedom compared to the ideal capacitor of impedance Z=1/(Cs) . This leads to an anomalous time-fractional diffusion equation that we solve considering the Caputo fractional derivative definition for the case of one-dimensional, semi-infinite propagation under a constant voltage excitation at x=0 . The voltage and current responses are found analytically in terms of the Fox's H -function. We discuss the implications of the dispersive nature of the CPE on the time-domain response along the transmission line system, as well as on the frequency-domain input impedance.

Abstract:Using the finite-difference time-domain (FD-TD) method in the Cartesian coordinate system, the coupling effects in some (a)symmetrical edge-coupled V-shape and trapezoidal microshield transmission lines (MTLs) are studied. The hybrid effects of different geometrical parameters of the MTLs and the permittivity of the filling materials on the coupling coefficient are examined and compared. It is shown that the edge-coupled V-shape geometry is effective in reducing coupling over a wide frequency range.

Abstract:Novel transfer functions for on-chip global interconnects are rigorously derived based on distributed resistance, inductance, capacitance and conductance (RLCG) transmission line model with typical boundary conditions. The new interconnect transfer function reveals that the distributed conductance of interconnects has a severe effect on interconnect performance. The peak value of voltage decreases about 50% in the case of g=0.33 S/m, compared with the ideal lossless case of g=0 for the finite length interconnect with an open circuit termination and an arbitrary source impedance. The crosstalk between coupled interconnects is also examined and demonstrated numerically.

Abstract:Efficient evaluation of the scattered field radiated by transmission line cables is proposed in this paper. The common-mode (CM) equivalent circuit is applied to the transmission line cables for circuit simplification, then the transmission line model is implemented to obtain the CM current generated along the cables due to the plane wave excitation. Therefore, the scattered field is calculated from the obtained CM current and it is found that it is identical to the one obtained by the MoM method for the original transmission line circuit.

Abstract:A compact 2D (two-dimensional) FDFD (finite-difference frequency-domain) method is implemented to extract the frequency-dependent circuit parameters for uniform transmission lines. The compact 2D FDFD method employs a formulation with only four components of the electromagnetic fields and finally results in an eigenvalue problem. Upon solving the resultant large eigenvalue problem using the implicitly Restarted Arnoldi method, the circuit parameters (R, L, C, G) for the transmission lines can be extracted via ID transmission line theory. Numerical examples are given to validate the method presented in this paper

Abstract:Compact 2D FDFD (two-dimensional finite-difference frequency-domain) methods were initially proposed by other researchers to solve the propagation constant of shielded uniform guided wave structures. In this paper, firstly we compare two compact 2D FDFD methods using four and six components of electromagnetic fields, which are applied to analyzing transmission lines with open boundaries. Then we extend them to extract the frequency-dependent circuit parameters of transmission lines. These R, L, C, G circuit parameters extracted via 1D transmission line theory are readily to be used for signal integrity analysis of high-speed circuits.

Abstract:In this paper, a method is presented to extract the per-unit-length inductance matrix L for closely separated multiconductor transmission lines having conductors with any kind of cross sections over a finitely conducting ground in frequency domain. First, the L over a perfect conducting ground is obtained from the per-unit-length capacitance matrix C by using finite element method. Then the effect of the perfect conducting ground is replaced by that of the finitely conducting ground. Thus, the proximity effect, the effects of both noncircular cross section and finitely conducting ground are taken into account. Some transmission properties of the cables on the chassis of a fuel cell bus made of steel frame is analyzed.

Abstract:This paper determines the capacitance, inductance, and characteristic impedance of rectangular lines by the method of conformal transformation. In practical applications, such lines may be used as transmission links of RF energy, as impedance-transforming sections, or as components in electron tubes. Formulas are given for the calculation of the parameters of rectangular lines having the following characteristics: 1) The inner conductor may have varying thickness compared with the depth of the outer conductor. 2) The axes of the conductors may coincide or may be displaced with respect to each other. 3) The edges of the inner conductor may be rounded to lessen the electrical stress occurring at sharp corners. Excellent agreement has been obtained between the calculated results and those found by use of the relaxation method, by direct measurement of models, and by electrolytic tank measurement.

Abstract:This paper describes a simplified hybrid method to calculate the frequency-dependent inductances of transmission lines, which combines cross-section coupled circuit method with boundary element method (BEM) just solving Laplace's equation. The coupled circuit method is used to calculate inductance in low frequency range; The BEM builds the capacitance matrix, then we invert this matrix (omit the row and column relate to ground plane), we can obtain inductance elating to the high frequency at which the current only distributes on surfaces of conductor. A cubic spline interpolation between inductance at low and very high frequency gives a good result over entire frequency range. Comparing this method with previous hybrid method, it avoids solving Helmholtz's equation and obtains the capacitance matrix at the same time, greatly reducing the total burden of calculation. Numerical tests show it is applicable and efficient.

Abstract:A fast simulation method is proposed in this paper to effectively deal with the difficulty of calculating frequency selective surface (FSS) on curved surfaces. This method extracts the equivalent circuit parameter of the FSS unit based on transmission line theory and uses it for building equivalent models of the FSS structure. Numerical examples show that the proposed method can significantly improve the calculation efficiency without losing accuracy. Hence, the equivalent modeling method for FSS (EMMF) can greatly help to verify and optimize the performance design of curved FSS.
