Abstract:Nanocomposites composed of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and graphene were synthesized via reduction of copper(II) in ethylene glycol. This material possesses the specific features of both Cu2O and graphene. Its morphology was characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry was used to evaluate the electrochemical response of a glass carbon electrode (GCE) modified with the nanocomposite towards dopamine (DA). Compared to the bare GCE, the Cu2O nanoparticles modified electrode and the graphene modified electrode, the nanocomposites modified electrode displays high electrocatalytic activity in giving an oxidation peak current that is proportional to the concentration of DA in the range from 0.1 to 10 μM,with a detection limit of 10 nM (S/N = 3). The modified electrode shows excellent selectivity and sensitivity even in the presence of high concentration of uric acid and can be applied to determine DA in real samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been studied in many fields. However, their electrochemical properties were seldom reported. In this work, a novel high electrocatalytic material was synthesized by incorporating bimetallic nanoparticles (AgCoNPs) in a two-dimensional (2D) porous TAPB-DMTP-COF, (AgCo/TAPB-DMTP-COF, TAPB, 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene; DMTP, 2,5-dimethoxyterephaldehyde). Subsequently, the resulting composite was further used to construct a novel electrochemical sensor for the ultrasensitive determination of levodopa. The analytical performance has been improved significantly due to the synergistic effect of both TAPB-DMTP-COF and AgCoNPs by increasing effective electroactive surface area and electron transfer efficiency. The linear detection range of the levodopa sensor was 0.010–100 μmol L−1. The limits of detection and quantitation were found to be 0.002 and 0.006 μmol L−1, respectively. Moreover, the sensor exhibits an excellent stability and maintains its catalytic activity after 100 scanning rounds. The applicability of the electrochemical sensor was successfully applied for the determination of levodopa content in human urine and blood serum samples. Our study not only supplies a useful tool to accurately detect levodopa in actual samples and, meanwhile, but paves a feasible way to unlock high performance 2D COF based electrode materials.

Abstract:Neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) has been implicated in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, realizing its low detection limit and high sensitivity analysis is of great significance for early disease diagnosis. Herein, we propose a simple pyrolysis approach for dispersing Fe-sites onto the N-doped graphene support (denoted as Fe/N-GR) to construct an electrochemical biosensor for DA detection. The fully exposed Fe-sites guaranteed the well-defined active center for electrochemical oxidation of DA. The Fe/N-GR electrochemical biosensor achieves an ultra-low detection limit for DA of 27 pM with a linear range of 50 pM-15 nM. Specifically, the Fe/N-GR electrochemical biosensor exhibits favorable sensitivity and enzyme-level molecular identification ability in the selective detection of DA versus other typical redox-active interferents. What's more, the detection of dopamine in real human serum samples verifies the applicability of the developed sensor. Our results demonstrate a promising means of using fully exposed metal-site subnanometric catalysts for electrochemical sensing applications.

Abstract:Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter for organisms and affects their function, so monitoring and detecting dopamine levels is essential. Sensitivity and selectivity of electrochemical sensors for the detection of dopamine usually relies on hybrid nanocomposites. In this context, we designed a micro-regionally restricted hybrid nanocomposite by modulating the micro-nano structure. Using functional groups on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) to restrict the random growth of tungsten disulfide nanosheets, we obtained a 2D layered material with bidirectional structural support to achieve high specific surface and high activity for application in robust and novel dopamine electrochemical sensors. A facile electrochemical sensor for dopamine detection was fabricated by modifying a screen-printed carbon electrode with the nanocomposite. The sensor exhibits excellent performance of dopamine detection in the wide range of 1 μmol/L100 μmol/L with a detection limit of 0.2 μmol/L and a high sensitivity of 0.56 μA/μmol/L. The optimized sensor shows a good selectivity, satisfactory long-term stability and reproducibility towards DA and a separation of peak potential of 142 mV with uric acid. In addition, the prepared sensor provides favorable recovery in human serum and artificial cerebrospinal solution (aSCF), indicating great potentials in electrochemical detection and biological sensing applications.

Abstract:In this study, we have introduced a simple method for developing the lithium cobalt iron oxide (Li0.3CoFe2O4, LCFO) nanoparticles by sol–gel and solid-state sintering methods using lithium nitrate, cobalt nitrate hexahydrate, and iron oxide as precursors. The electrochemical performance of LCFO was further improved by combining graphene (LCFO-Gr). The synthesized LCFO-Gr nanocomposite exhibited cubic face-centered structure with an average particle-size distribution of 26 nm as estimated from XRD, FESEM, and TEM studies. A novel electrochemical sensor was fabricated by placing LCFO-Gr nanocomposite on the surface of glassy carbon electrode by drop-casting method, which demonstrated superior electrocatalytic activity, sensitivity, and selectivity towards the determination of dopamine. Additionally, as a cathode material, it delivered high discharge capacity of 153 mAh g−1 with good cycling stability, suggesting LCFO-Gr nanocomposite as a prominent material for the next-generation lithium-ion batteries.<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Graphic abstract</h3>

Abstract:A hetero-phase structure of cobalt hydroxide [alpha/beta-Co(OH)(2)] in situ formed with the partly reduced graphene oxide [Co(OH)(2)/PRGO] has been fabricated by a coprecipitation method. Depending on the interactions (nucleation, bonding with oxygen-rich groups, and partial conversion of GO into rGO) provided by GO, cobalt ions utilized the interactions under alkaline conditions provided by 2-methylimidazole to form hetero-phase alpha/beta-Co(OH)(2) and maintain the unstable-structure [alpha-Co(OH)(2)]. Beneficial to the large electrochemical active surface, rich redox active sites, and electronic transfer capability derived from hetero-phase structure [alpha/beta-Co(OH)(2)] and the partly reduced graphene oxide, the Co(OH)(2)/PRGO has an extraordinary detection performance of DA: a multi-section continuous detection range (0.1 nM to 450 mu M), a ultra-low limit of detection (0.078 nM, S/N = 3), and a strong anti-interference ability, coupled with an application potential in biological foods (pork) and in the body environment (serum).

Abstract:The interfacing of polyoxometalates and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) can be considered to be an effective way to generate hybrid structures which colligates the advantages of both components. Here, a hybrid material (polyoxometalate‐based metal–organic framework (POMOF)/rGO) integrating POMOF and rGO is obtained via a simple one‐pot approach. The as‐prepared materials are used as electrochemical active materials to detect dopamine for the first time. It is shown that the hybridization results in a superior catalytic activity for oxidation of dopamine owing to the synergistic effect between POMOF and rGO, as well as favorable interaction of DA with CC network of the composite. The promoted electron transfer, as well as abundant active sites, open channels, and aromatic planes in the hybrid material produce a wider linear detection range of 1 × 10−6 to 2 × 10−4 m with the lower detection limit of 80.4 × 10−9 m (S/N = 3). Moreover, the developed biosensor also exhibits favorable selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. As a non‐noble metal catalyst constructing from function and structure‐matched building blocks, the prepared POMOF/rGO hybrid material demonstrates its highly promising properties for dopamine detection and the result should promote the further development of POMOF‐based sensors.

Abstract:To overcome the problem of incorrect levodopa (LD) dosage in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, a new analytical tool is urgently needed for accurately determining the concentration of LD in human fluids. Herein, an effective and stable sensor based on a Co-single-atomic-site catalyst (Co-SASC)-modified glassy carbon electrode (Co-SASC/GCE) was developed for the determination of LD concentration. The physicochemical characterization of Co-SASC is systematically investigated. It has excellent thermal stability, graphitization degree, and a large specific surface area. Benefiting from its porous structure for kinetically fast catalysis and component advantages for fix a single cobalt atom to improve stability, Co-SASC/GCE exhibits a superior electrochemical response. Under optimal conditions (pH 2.0, coating amount is 10 mu g), an ideal linear relationship is achieved between the logarithm of the peak current of the sensor and the logarithm of LD concentration. The linear range is 0.1-200 mu M, and the limit of detection (LOD) is 0.033 mu M. After a simple pretreatment, LD in human serum is detected by Co-SASC/GCE with excellent stability and selectivity. As such, this work enlarges the existing electrochemical sensor toolbox by offering a reasonable design and synthesis protocol for advanced materials to accurately determine LD in human fluids for the clinical treatment of Parkinson's disease.
High oxidase-mimic activity of Fe nanoparticles embedded in an N-rich porous carbon and their application for sensing of dopamine

Abstract:The N-doped porous carbon (NC) has been regarded as one of the promising support materials for nanoparticles (NPs) catalyst due to its inherent virtues such as porosity, large surface areas, and heteroatom incorporation. In this work, Fe/NC-800 hybrid was facilely prepared by uniform dispersion of in situ formed FeNPs onto NC-800 from carbonization of ZIF-8 at 800 °C for the first time. The optimized Fe/NC-800 catalyst was characterized by TEM, XPS and XRD. Compared with sole FeNPs and NC-800, the Fe/NC-800 catalyst exhibited an enhanced oxidase-like activity that could oxidize the colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to the heavy blue without extra oxidants such as H2O2. The possible reason for the enhanced oxidase-like activity of the Fe/NC-800 was discussed on the basis of the experiments of radical scavengers, indicating the importance of superoxide (O2•-) and singlet (1O2) in colorimetric reaction between TMB and Fe/NC-800 hybrid. Furthermore, the oxidase-like activity of Fe/NC-800 was significantly inhibited by dopamine (DA), leading to blue color fading. On this basis, a sensitive and selective colorimetric sensor was fabricated for the quantitative analysis of DA with a linear range of 0.01-40 μM and a low detection limit of 10 nM. The proposed colorimetric method was successfully applied to determine DA in human serum and injection samples, suggesting a promising application in biological analysis.

Abstract:Dopamine concentration abnormalities in the body can cause various disorders and diseases such as Parkinson's, Tourette's syndrome, and depression. In this study, graphene oxide (GO) was combined with Fe 3 O 4 to sensitively and selectively detect dopamine. The performance was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods. The results of testing with CV on the solution [Fe(CN) 6 ] showed that a modification with GO gave a maximum effective surface area value of 0.0127 cm 2 , proving that GO can increase the effective area and conductivity of the sensor. DPV testing shows that dopamine detection using GO/Fe 3 O 4 has a linear range at a concentration of 1–10 μM with a detection limit of 0.48 μM and a quantification limit of 1.6 μM. GO/Fe 3 O 4 also shows good selectivity where the peak current is separated by 0.245 V with ascorbic acid, which is the closest interference compound. Graphical

Abstract:Two gold nanoparticle-graphene nanocomposites were electrochemically obtained by the one-step constant potential coreduction of graphene oxide and gold ions or the electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles on graphene oxide followed by electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide. The surface morphology, electron transfer rate, and electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of dopamine on these nanocomposites were systematically studied. The results showed that both preparations synthesized gold nanoparticle-graphene nanocomposites. The nanocomposite obtained by the one-step synthesis showed higher electron transfer kinetics and electrocatalytic activity toward dopamine than the material obtained by the two-step synthesis. Consequently, the one-step nanocomposite was used to modify a glassy carbon electrode to form a dopamine sensor. Differential pulse voltammetry was used to detect dopamine with a detection limit of 0.1 micromolar and a linear dynamic range from 0.2 to 20 micromolar. The sensor displayed good stability, high reproducibility, and was used for the determination of dopamine in human urine.

Abstract:The current study presents the creation of a straightforward and sensitive sensor based on ZnO/Co3O4 nanocomposite modified screen-printed electrode (ZnO/Co3O4NC/SPE) for levodopa determination. At ZnO/Co3O4NC/SPE, an oxidative peak for levodopa solution in pH 6.0 phosphate buffer solution (PBS) were seen that were both more resolved and more enhanced. Levodopa was measured using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), which showed an excellent linear range (0.001-800.0 μM) and detection limit (0.81 nM). The presence of interference did not affect the electrochemical response of levodopa at ZnO/Co3O4NC/SPE, demonstrating high selectivity. Levodopa in a real samples have been successfully detected using the manufactured sensor.
Interfacial galvanic replacement strategy for Pd-doped NiFe MOF nanosheets with highly efficient dopamine detection

Abstract:An interfacial galvanic replacement strategy to controllable synthesize palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs)-modified NiFe MOF nanocomposite on nickel foam, which served as an efficient sensing platform for quantitative determination of dopamine (DA). Pd NPs grown in situ on the nanosheets of NiFe MOF via self-driven galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) and well uniform distribution was achieved. This method effectively reduced the aggregation of metallic nanoparticles and significantly promoted the electron transfer rate during the electrochemical process, leading to improved electrocatalytic activity for DA oxidation. Remarkably, the precisely constructed biosensor achieved a low detection limit (LOD) of 0.068 µM and recovery of 94.1% (RSD 6.7%, N = 3) for simulated real sample detection and also exhibited superior selectivity and stability. The results confirmed that the as-fabricated Pd-NiFe/NF composite electrode could realize the quantitative determination of DA and showed promising prospects in real sample biosensing.

Abstract:An electrochemical sensor that can sensitively detect levodopa without fragile and expensive antibodies has been prepared on the basis of indium sulfide and graphene. The indium sulfide nanospheres synthesized by a hydrothermal method were grown on the surface of three-dimensional graphene prepared by chemical vapor deposition. The graphene maintains a good 3D structure and the indium sulfide nanospheres increases the specific surface area of graphene. The composite possesses a low detection limit of 87 nM (S/N = 3) and the sensitivity of it reaches 1.98 μA μM−1 cm−1. Also, good electrochemical performance, selectivity, and stability make it available to be used for detecting real biomolecules.

The novel polypyrrole nanospheres can prevent the aggregation of reduced graphite oxide sheets by electrostatic repulsive interaction, and enhance their electrochemical properties in the nano-molar measurement of dopamine in biological systems with a linear range of 1–8000nM and a detection limit as low as 0.3nM.

Abstract:We report the synthesis of inexpensive and environmentally benign cobalt(0) nanoparticles on L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) functionalized and magnetite (Fe3O4) grafted graphene oxide (Co@GO/Fe3O4/L-dopa) which was fully characterized with different techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), Carbon Hydrogen Nitrogen (CHN) analysis, Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Graphene oxide was used as the core material due to its mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. In order to avoid the cumbersome process of separation, magnetite nanoparticles were coated over the graphene oxide. After the successful preparation of graphene oxide based magnetic nanoparticles, L-dopa was grafted over Fe3O4 nanoparticles so as to provide firm anchoring agent for cobalt nanoparticles. Finally, cobalt(0) nanoparticles were immobilized on the developed magnetic support. The catalytic efficiency of the synthesized catalyst was tested for Suzuki cross-coupling and oxidation reactions, usually carried out by precious and expensive second and third row transition metals; products were obtained in good to excellent yields. The synthesized catalyst represents an attractive alternative to conventional catalysts for Suzuki cross-coupling and oxidation reactions, and is recyclable up to five runs.

Abstract:In this work, a novel 1,4-bis (4- aminophenylethynyl)benzene (OPE-NH2, a symmetric linear conjugated oligo(phenylene ethynylene)s derive) and chemically-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposite (OPE-NH2/rGO) was synthesized by a simple self-assembly method. The OPE-NH2/rGO nanocomposite was stable and water soluble. The formation of OPE-NH2/rGO nanocomposite was ascribed to the π–π stacking interaction between the conjugated structure of OPE-NH2 and rGO as well as the electrostatic force between the amino group of OPE-NH2 and the carboxyl group on rGO, which was characterized by FT-IR, UV–vis spectra and fluorescence spectra. The OPE-NH2/rGO nanocomposite exhibited significantly improved electrocatalytic activity to the oxidization of dopamine (DA) than that of rGO or OPE-NH2. The electrochemical performances of OPE-NH2/rGO were dependent on the OPE-NH2 contents, and OPE-NH2 content of 5wt% exhibited the highest activity. Compared with that of rGO, the nanocomposite presented superior high sensitivity with detection limit of 5nM, excellent selectivity, wide linear range (0.01–60μM) and good stability on the determination of DA. The practical application of the developed OPE-NH2/rGO nanocomposite modified electrode was successfully demonstrated for DA determination in human serum samples.
