Abstract:The most difficult part in Finnegans Wake is the self-made words which include portmanteau words, transformed words, combined words and nomenclatures which are used ungrammatically and arbitrarily. Those self-made words have complicated functions: to help the author to transcend the social constraints implied in the ready-made words and to attract readers in its word labyrinth. Besides, the potentiality of infinite explanation makes the text an uncertain and open space. The emphasis on the sounds of those words implies the resisting of the colonial culture of England, too.

Abstract:The vagrancy consciousness in modern literature of " New Age" is rich in nature of idealism.The vagrancy consciousness of idealism could be traced to the deep and tough spirit of literary young people in the campaign of " Live & learn in the mountain and in the countryside" in China’s "Culture Revolution".Beidao’s experiences and works are typical expression of the vagrancy consciousness.The soul of resolute doubt and denial in Beidao’s early poems brings vagrancy of thought and spirit,which accompanied with senses of being lost and vagrant for his finding way out in spirit as well as tragic hero color in the form of idealism.The vagrancy after his being distanced from homeland bears some sense of worriment and fatalism.

Abstract:The purpose of the work is to reveal and substantiate the concept of empty space in modern Chinese posters. The research is aimed at analysing the semantics and aesthetics of empty space in the structure of visual communication and revealing its role in the formation of modern visual forms in the context of preserving national identity and preserving unique aspects of Chinese culture. The research methodology involves the use of general scientific and special methods. A comparative-historical analysis was used to understand the development of traditional Chinese art and its influence on modern design; methods of scientific analysis and synthesis in the process of examining scientific sources; methods of art criticism and content analysis during the study of empirical material and establishing the principles of using empty space in modern posters. The scientific novelty of the work consists in revealing the artistic and philosophical basis of the creation of a modern composition in a Chinese poster. Formal and compositional and figurative means and their role in the formation of modern posters in China are traced and specified. The concept of empty space is substantiated and its role in modern visual forms in the context of establishing national identity and preserving unique aspects of Chinese culture is revealed. Conclusions. It was revealed that today in the context of globalisation trends, the issue of finding and preserving not only traditional elements and styles, but also aesthetic and philosophical approaches formed over several millennia of the country's cultural development, arises in the project activities of Chinese graphic designers. Among such approaches is the special attitude of the artist to the free space of the sheet. Its nature, its presence or absence significantly affects the perception of a graphic work, because it works on an equal footing with visual-figurative elements in conveying a message – it organises them, emphasises attention, arranges them. Accordingly, the graphic composition of the Chinese art poster today is a field of complex interaction of its visible and invisible elements. Visualisation of the content of the message, compositional laws and established visual-communicative design trends that form the external components of the poster organically work with their internal content. This content turns out to be not only aesthetically justified, but also acquires its own spiritual and aesthetic content. Keywords: China, empty space, poster, painting, influence, tradition.

Abstract:In the discourse systems of Lu Xun and Kafka,the adversative conjunctions,such as "but","however" and so on,were both used frequently. These linguistic styles,in ours views,correspond to Kierkegaard's concept of "reflective sorrow". In Lu Xun's discourse there is a high inclination of paradox and a strong feeling of presence,intensely and densely. However,in that of Kafka there is a simple and mysterious sense of deferment. The difference originated from their difference in values. One view is "head for eyes" and the other is "hesitant road". Lu Xun refused any hypothetical sublime value standard (such as God). He based himself on present and took his own life to strive against desperation and nihility. However,Kafka refused to move towards faith. In his writings he detached concrete historical sense,dwelled on amazing detailed description and try to extend hopeless into unusual textual world.

Abstract:As a contribution to comparative East-West poetics, this essay descries a common resource of Western and classical Chinese literatures in certain “apophatic” modes of thought and discourse that are oriented to what cannot be said, to what is manifest only in and through a certain evasion and defiance of all efforts to verbalize and conceptualize it. This argument is developed in critical counterpoint with the work of interpreting Chinese classical poetry and thought by the French philosopher and sinologist François Jullien. Jullien acutely apprehends and elegantly expounds the deeply apophatic bent of Chinese poetics. However, he sets Chinese thought and poetry categorically apart from Western approaches, whereas my analysis brings them together under the aegis of their common inspiration from the experience of the limits of language vis-à-vis an unspeakable origin of thinking and its source in reality.

Abstract:While landscape can be explored through the discourse of language and materiality, the enchantment of landscape remains ambiguous. In trying to unconceal the magic of landscape, this paper turns to the connection between Heidegger’s phenomenology and Chinese Daoism through the concept of landscape as the painted picture. Using the literal meaning of the Chinese landscape as the ‘scene of the wind’, or rather the scene of the invisible, I explore how landscape can be understood through the combination of Heideggerian hermeneutics and Chinese Daoism as the literal and metaphorical Void between mortality and divinity, earth and sky. Traditional Chinese landscape painting, as the Daoist philosophy in portraying the essence of truth in nature and life, is contrasted with Western Romanticism and Ruskin’s ideals of art as truth. Through the disturbance of what is subject and object, as well as what is visible and invisible in the perception of landscape, I conclude that the magic of landscape lies in the paradox: the between state where logic is inversed, where the Void is nothingness, where truth is sought and where belief is magical.

Abstract:In the history of Chinese literary criticism,the category of void and reality has been originated from the theory of "Existence and Nothingness" by "Lao Tzu" and Zhuang Tzu.And the works of "Zhou Yi" and "Lao Tzu" endow it with profound dialectical thoughts.These have become the philosophical basis for the emergence of "Void and Reality" theory during the Pre-Qin period,and have also established a basis for its further development and evolution in Wei and Jin dynasties,and consequently in Tang and Song dynasties.Its implication can't be separated from prose practice during this period,such as The book of "The Book of Odes","Li Sao",and so on.As a kernel primary category in Chinese history of literary criticism,"Void and Reality" is fundamentally an artistic creation method whose germ existed in ancient times.During the Pre-Qin period,trope,symbolism,and concrete images are its unconscious use in literature creation.From the perspective of philosophy,the combination of Void and Reality is inevitable.The trope and symbolism methods found in "The Book of Odes" and "Li Sao" are the invisible substitute and earlier "embryo" of the "Void and Reality" theory in later generations.The emergence of "Void and Reality" has certain relationship with the political argumentations in Qin and Han dynasties and with the poetic essays in Han Dynasty.

Abstract:Against the late modernization background,the exploration on the cultural tallying point pursued by the writers in Western Regions is always the main topic to construct their works.In ′Shaanxi Opera′,Jia Ping-ao once again made a description about his native place-the land of Shaanxi in a very pathetic and touching way.He is full of sympathy and sadness to the carrier of arts.He demonstrates his sorrow with no alternative and grief at a loss as to what to do and the squeeze of the modern culture to the traditional culture against the late modernization background.The exploration of the cultural way-out,the symbol metaphor of the ′Shaanxi opera′ die-out,fuzziness of the special meaning of the symbol ′Shaanxi people′,and the elimination of the concept ′root′ all denote that the explorer is full of puzzling cultural plight and even unfruitfulness.This may just be the infinite resources in which to create the literature in Western regions and determine the huge potentials for the development of the literature in Western regions.

Abstract:The article analyses one of Japanese calligraphy’s (shodō 書道) particularities: the notion of “emptiness”, “nothingness”. This concept can be observed in different layers of the art: from the white of the paper, to the movement of the brush after it has been lifted from the paper to the interpretative process. In this way, there are instances of “emptiness” during several stages of creation and understanding of a calligraphic work. In order to illustrate this, our article will analyse two shodō 書道 works, pinpointing the use of “emptiness”, or “nothingness”, and the effect they create for the calligraphic work as a whole. We conclude that in order to grasp the transcendent meaning, one must take into account all elements present within a calligraphic work, including the instances of “emptiness”.
