Abstract:Seiberg-like duality of three dimensional N=2 Chern-Simons-Matter quiver gauge theory is shown to have a chiral double tropical cluster algebra structure. We use cluster algebra results to study combinatorial aspects of these theories such as classification, supersymmetry breaking, etc.

Abstract:We show that a large subclass of 3d = 4 quiver gauge theories consisting of unitary and special unitary gauge nodes with only fundamental/bifundamental matter have multiple Seiberg-like IR duals. A generic quiver in this subclass has a non-zero number of balanced special unitary gauge nodes and it is a good theory in the Gaiotto-Witten sense. We refer to this phenomenon as IR N-ality and the set of mutually IR dual theories as the N-al set associated with the quiver . Starting from , we construct a sequence of dualities by step-wise implementing a set of quiver mutations which act locally on the gauge nodes. The associated N-al theories can then be read off from this duality sequence. The quiver generically has an emergent Coulomb branch global symmetry in the IR, such that the rank of the IR symmetry is always greater than the rank visible in the UV. We show that there exists at least one theory in the N-al set for which the rank of the IR symmetry precisely matches the rank of the UV symmetry. In certain special cases that we discuss in this work, the correct emergent symmetry algebra itself may be read off from this preferred theory (or theories) in addition to the correct rank. Finally, we give a recipe for constructing the 3d mirror associated with a given N-al set and show how the emergent Coulomb branch symmetry of is realized as a UV-manifest Higgs branch symmetry of the 3d mirror. This paper is the second in a series of four papers on 3d = 4 Seiberg-like dualities, preceded by the work [1].

3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories and plumbing graphs: adding matter, gauging, and new dualities

Abstract:Recently, a large class of 3d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauge theories with mixed Chern-Simons levels, corresponding to plumbing 3-manifolds, has been identified. In this paper we generalize these theories by including in their content chiral multiples, and analyze their properties. We find that the content of such theories can be encoded in graphs, which generalize plumbing graphs, and various operations in these theories can be represented in terms of transformations of such graphs. The operations in question include gauging global symmetries, integrating out gauge nodes, which for theories without chiral multiplets corresponds to Kirby moves, and ST-transformations that involve chiral multiplets. The dualities such as mirror triality and SQED-XYZ duality can be also represented in terms of graphs, and enable us to find many new dual theories by gauging global symmetries. In particular, we find that gauged SQED-XYZ duality leads to other dualities, which take the same form as operations of linking and unlinking discussed in the context of knots-quivers correspondence. We also find that the superpotential can be encoded in an interesting class of triangle graphs that satisfy certain consistency conditions, we discuss decoupling and Higgsing of chiral multiplets, as well as interpretation of various phenomena in terms of brane webs.

Abstract:We define three families of quivers in which the braid relations of the symmetric group $S_n$ are realized by mutations and automorphisms. A sequence of eight braid moves on a reduced word for the longest element of $S_4$ yields three trivial cluster transformations with 8, 32 and 32 mutations. For each of these cluster transformations, a unitary operator representing a single braid move in a quantum mechanical system solves the tetrahedron equation. The solutions thus obtained are constructed from the noncompact quantum dilogarithm and can be identified with the partition functions of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric gauge theories on a squashed three-sphere.

Unsupervised Machine Learning Techniques for Exploring Tropical Coamoeba, Brane Tilings and Seiberg Duality

Abstract:We introduce unsupervised machine learning techniques in order to identify toric phases of 4d N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories corresponding to the same toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. These 4d N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories are worldvolume theories of a D3-brane probing a toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold and are realized in terms of a Type IIB brane configuration known as a brane tiling. It corresponds to the skeleton graph of the coamoeba projection of the mirror curve associated to the toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. When we vary the complex structure moduli of the mirror Calabi-Yau 3-fold, the coamoeba and the corresponding brane tilings change their shape, giving rise to different toric phases related by Seiberg duality. We illustrate that by employing techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE), we can project the space of coamoeba labelled by complex structure moduli down to a lower dimensional phase space with phase boundaries corresponding to Seiberg duality. In this work, we illustrate this technique by obtaining a 2-dimensional phase diagram for brane tilings corresponding to the cone over the zeroth Hirzebruch surface F0.

Finiteness and Uniqueness of Duality Cascades in Three Dimensions for Affine Quivers

Abstract:For three-dimensional circular-quiver supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories, the questions, whether duality cascades always terminate and whether the endpoint is unique, were rephrased into the question whether a polytope defined in the parameter space of relative ranks for duality cascades is a parallelotope, filling the space by discrete translations. By regarding circular quivers as affine Dynkin diagrams, we generalize the arguments into other affine quivers. We find that, after rewriting properties into the group-theoretical language, most arguments work in the generalizations. Especially, we find that, instead of the original relation to parallelotopes, the corresponding polytope still fills the parameter space but with some gaps. This indicates that, under certain restrictions, duality cascades still terminate uniquely.

Abstract:We consider N = 2 superconformal field theory with following properties: a) Coulomb branch operators have fractional scaling dimensions, b) there are exact marginal deformations . The weakly coupled gauge theory descriptions are found by decomposing 3d mirror into different components, and different decompositions correspond to different duality frames. The gauge theory is formed by gauging Argyres-Douglas matter, and we write down all duality frames for several classes with infinite sequence of theories.

Exploring Seiberg-like Dualities with Eight Supercharges

Abstract:We propose a family of IR dualities for 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ $U(N)$ SQCD with $N_f$ fundamental flavors and $P$ Abelian hypermultiplets i.e. $P$ hypermultiplets in the determinant representation of the gauge group. These theories are good in the Gaiotto-Witten sense if the number of fundamental flavors obeys the constraint $N_f \geq 2N-1$ with generic $P \geq 1$, and in contrast to the standard $U(N)$ SQCD, they do not admit an ugly regime. The IR dualities in question arise in the window $N_f=2N+1,2N,2N-1,$ with $P=1$ in the first case and generic $P \geq 1$ for the others. The dualities involving $N_f=2N \pm 1$ are characterized by an IR enhancement of the Coulomb branch global symmetry on one side of the duality, such that the rank of the emergent global symmetry group is greater than the rank of the UV global symmetry. The dual description makes the rank of this emergent global symmetry manifest in the UV. In addition, one can read off the emergent global symmetry itself from the dual quiver. We show that these dualities are related by certain field theory operations and assemble themselves into a duality web. Finally, we show that the $U(N)$ SQCDs with $N_f \geq 2N-1$ and $P$ Abelian hypers have Lagrangian 3d mirrors, and this allows one to explicitly write down the 3d mirror associated with a given IR dual pair. This paper is the first in a series of four papers on 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Seiberg-like dualities.

Abstract:We study Ihara zeta function for graphs in the context of quivers arising from gauge theories, especially under Seiberg duality transformations. The distribution of poles is studied as we proceed along the duality tree, in light of the weak and strong graph versions of the Riemann Hypothesis. As a by-product, we find a refined version of Ihara zeta function to be the generating function for the generic superpotential of the gauge theory.

Abstract:We define and study a new class of 4d $ \mathcal{N} = {1} $ superconformal quiver gauge theories associated with a planar bipartite network. While UV description is not unique due to Seiberg duality, we can classify the IR fixed points of the theory by a permutation, or equivalently a cell of the totally non-negative Grassmannian. The story is similar to a bipartite network on the torus classified by a Newton polygon. We then generalize the network to a general bordered Riemann surface and define IR SCFT from the geometric data of a Riemann surface. We also comment on IR R-charges and superconformal indices of our theories.

Abstract:We systematically study the AdS/CFT correspondence induced by D3 branes probing three dimensional Gorenstein quotient singularity ℂ^3/G. The field theory is given by the McKay quiver, which has a vanishing NSVZ beta function assuming that all the chiral fields have the U(1)_R charge 2/3. Various physical quantities such as quiver Hilbert series, superconformal index, central charges, etc are computed, which match exactly with those computed using the singularity. We also study the relevant deformation of those theories and find the dual geometry, therefore generate many new interesting AdS/CFT pairs. The quiver gauge theory defined using finite subgroups of SO(3) group has some interesting features, for example, its Seiberg duality behavior is quite interesting.

Abstract:Four dimensional N=2 generalized superconformal field theory can be defined by compactifying six dimensional (0,2) theory on a Riemann surface with regular punctures. In previous studies, gauge coupling constant space is identified with the moduli space of punctured Riemann surface M_{g,n}. We show that the weakly coupled gauge group description corresponds to a stable nodal curve, and the coupling space is actually the Deligne-Mumford compactification \bar{M}_{g,n}. We also give an algorithm to determine the weakly coupled gauge group and matter content in any duality frame.

Abstract:By analyzing brane configurations in detail, and extracting general lessons, we develop methods for analyzing S-duality of supersymmetric boundary conditions in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. In the process, we find that S-duality of boundary conditions is closely related to mirror symmetry of three-dimensional gauge theories, and we analyze the IR behavior of large classes of quiver gauge theories.

Abstract:Mirror Symmetry for a large class of three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric gauge theories has a natural explanation in terms of M-theory compactified on a product of $\text{ALE}$ spaces. A pair of such mirror duals can be described as two different deformations of the eleven-dimensional supergravity background $\mathcal{M}=\mathbb{R}^{2,1} \times \text{ALE}_{1} \times \text{ALE}_{2}$, to which they flow in the deep IR. Using the $A-D-E$ classification of $\text{ALE}$ spaces, we present a neat way to catalogue dual quiver gauge theories that arise in this fashion. In addition to the well-known examples studied in \cite{Intriligator:1996ex}, \cite{deBoer:1996mp}, this procedure leads to new sets of dual theories. For a certain subset of dual theories which arise from the aforementioned M-theory background with an $A$-type $\text{ALE}_{1}$ and a $D$-type $\text{ALE}_2$, we verify the duality explicitly by a computation of partition functions of the theories on $S^3$, using localization techniques . We derive the relevant mirror map and discuss its agreement with predictions from the Type IIB brane construction for these theories.

Abstract:We study Berry connections for supersymmetric ground states of 2d $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ GLSMs quantised on a circle, which are generalised periodic monopoles. Periodic monopole solutions may be encoded into difference modules, as shown by Mochizuki, or into an alternative algebraic construction given in terms of vector bundles endowed with filtrations. By studying the ground states in terms of a one-parameter family of supercharges, we relate these two different kinds of spectral data to the physics of the GLSMs. From the difference modules we derive novel difference equations for brane amplitudes, which in the conformal limit yield novel difference equations for hemisphere or vortex partition functions. When the GLSM flows to a nonlinear sigma model with Kähler target $X$, we show that the two kinds of spectral data are related to different (generalised) cohomology theories: the difference modules are related to the equivariant quantum cohomology of $X$, whereas the vector bundles with filtrations are related to its equivariant K-theory.

Abstract:We study supersymmetric Berry connections of 2d $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) quantized on a circle, which are periodic monopoles, with the aim to provide a fruitful physical arena for recent mathematical constructions related to the latter. These are difference modules encoding monopole solutions via a Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence established by Mochizuki. We demonstrate how the difference modules arise naturally by studying the ground states as the cohomology of a one-parameter family of supercharges. In particular, we show how they are related to one kind of monopole spectral data, a quantization of the Cherkis-Kapustin spectral curve, and relate them to the physics of the GLSM. By considering states generated by D-branes and leveraging the difference modules, we derive novel difference equations for brane amplitudes. We then show that in the conformal limit, these degenerate into novel difference equations for hemisphere partition functions, which are exactly calculable. When the GLSM flows to a nonlinear sigma model with Kähler target $X$, we show that the difference modules are related to the equivariant quantum cohomology of $X$.
