Abstract:When using Pierre Bourdieu's concepts,we shouldn't forget the methodological connotations in and behind them.Bourdieu's way of relative thinking is a dual-directional break from social physics and social phenomenology,and it's also an upset of researchers' being participant observers in social anthropology.To educational investigators,Bourdieu's methodology means not a set of procedures that can be used directly,but a profound visual angle and insight,which can bring new explanations and thus a new look in education,education research and the relationship between educational theory and practice.

Abstract:Criticizing scholastic point of view as the main epistemic obstacle for adequate social science,Bourdieu's knowledge theory stands out as"a sociology of sociology"of which the dialectic between substantive social analysis and proposals of sociological knowledge is the bedrock.So the paper tries to comprehend this point through his concept of Doxa on three dimensions:practical sense,field analysis and symbolic power.We can make it clear how Bourdieu's conceptualization of society or"social" is embedded within his search of sufficient knowledge theory directed to the scientific field as the problematic of scientific reason. Moreover his knowledge theory aims at how the sociological knowledge can be demystified and breaks with various spontaneous discourses.

Abstract:From 1980, Sociology of Scientific Knowledge has realized the turning from rational reconstruction of science into sociological reconstruction of science. As a result, it opens a door of a series of new problems, which have been neglected. Of course, this sociological turn has a close relation to the Kuhn's historicism paradigm theory. However, because the in strong program SSK means that in understanding nature, there is no role of nature, and social factors play only a key role, and it thus lead a complete deconstruction to science and reason.

Abstract:This study reviews the process of research development of sociology of education in mainland China,with special references to focus,self-consciousness and knowledge system of the discipline of sociology of education. The study argues that sociology of education has been well established in China,with its sub-disciplines quickly developed,and its three streams of research—practically-oriented formative research,education and social stratification,and interpretative sociology of education—well progressed. The study calls for engaging in unique and systematical theoretical studies as the main direction for the future development of sociology of education.

Abstract:Within the sphere of contemporary social sciences, the terms “modernity,” “post-modernity” and “globalization” have penetrated, as the core concepts, into various fields of social sciences in a logical way. In constituting the concept of “modernity,” sociology of education develops the educational theory, as sociological theory does, into a “grand narrative” and “foundationalist” theory; the contribution of post-modernity is pluralism and self-examination in an attempt to transcend modernity. Globalization, a kind of expanded modernity, makes education sociologists broaden their perspective from single and traditional “nationality,” “society” and “nation” to an international society and even to the global society, which has broken through the research paradigm of modernity with ethnocentrism, anthropocentrism and Euro-centrism. These changes have required urgent constitution of the conceptions and theoretical frameworks of sociology of education to be applied on a global level.

Abstract:This paper examines from a Social Realist perspective a set of issues in the sociology of education regarding the problem of knowledge. It focuses upon the issue of relativism associated with the constructionist approach that since the time of the New Sociology of Education in the 1970s has constituted in different forms the dominant perspective in the field. It identifies features shared between constructionism and the ‘positivist’ approach with which it contrasts itself. It is argued that these two positions have more in common than is often recognized and draws upon Critical Realism as an alternative to both. Social Realism explores the sociological implications of Critical Realism for education.

Abstract:Western sociology is a social science that took root and developed in a particular historical context. It has been providing service to the government and other social institutions. For this reason, its intellectual heritage engenders a certain professional incentive structure, which makes it relatively difficult, in comparison with other related disciplines, to bring much benefit to individuals, a professed aim of sociology. To change this situation, sociology must revisit the relationship between social structures and behavioral agency to develop a deductive intellectual system built on the social exchange theory and its extensions, which is the precursor of a directional shift in sociology. It gives hope to a kind of “sociology for individuals” and an opportunity to reconstruct an indigenous sociology in China.

Abstract:In order to make an objective description of educational situations in different historic periods,it is very necessary to examine the connotation and extension of the educational concepts in different periods.Besides,to reestablish Chinese education study,it is also necessary to dig out the theoretic resources of traditional education,set up a bridge of transforming traditional educational concepts to modern educational ones.In a sense,the research on the history of Chinese education concepts should avoid an outdated mode of being from concept to concept,instead,it should center around two aspects,i.e.the change of historical facts reflected in the concepts and the change in the words describing the comcepts to probe into the evoluting process and rules of concepts themselves.

Abstract:As a founder of the theory of sociology,E.Durkheim proposed two methodological principles for sociology.The first is the principle of observation,which asked us treat social facts as materials.The second is the principle of analysis,which asked us analyze the causes and functions of each social fact separately.However,in his research on higher education,E.Durkheim's sociological methodology was characterized by the change from positivist method to dialectics.He held that,a university was a typical subject of any sociology,given that the nature of university was to develop human's capacity to criticize and think,and wasn't only to develop science,the research of sociology should overstep the scientific and positivistic methods and inherit and develop the dialectical and rational method of the western tradition.

PurposeThis study provides an overview of the changes and developments of the sociology of education in China as it enters the new era as well as its future outlook.Design/Approach/MethodsThis study combed and analyzed research in the field of the sociology of education in China during the period from 2012 to 2022 on three issues—educational fairness, rural education, and educational reform—to clarify the field's research characteristics and trends.FindingsIn the new era, scholarship on the sociology of education has shifted to focus on achieving high-quality education, modernization, and digitization as new avenues for promoting educational fairness, rural education, and educational reform. As a result, research on the sociology of education in China has employed broader perspectives, adopted a more reflexive approach toward research objects, and embraced more humanistic values.Originality/ValueThis study compiles research on the sociology of education in China in the new era and identifies that the field is moving toward a highly integrative approach. The findings provide useful references for learning and understanding the sociology of education in China.

Abstract:Material production in capitalist system is not only a technological process but also a social process. Similarly, the education and training of labor force in school is also a social process. Social relations embedded into these two social processes could and should be compared to each other. With-out such comparison, we cannot reach a deep understanding of school education. Correspondence the-ory is a kind of comparison theory. In this theory, its founders, Bowles and Gintis, try to make sense of school education in America in the framework of correspondence between education and society. They elaborate the perspective of social reproduction for the first time and the key notion of hidden cur-riculum in particular. Correspondence theory has a far-reaching influence on educational theories and research.

Abstract:There are some achievements about modern changes of Chinese education at the macro-middle-scale levels.But,what role did modern education play in people’s life? What did modern education bring to the people’s life,especially for the vast majority of the population,the rural masses? Few people have touched these essential questions.In fact,since social anthropology was introduced from the West during the early 1900s,some researchers of different periods have described and analyzed the practical situation of the rural education in modern China in their social anthropological writings or historical writings that invested with anthropology.Some of them can enlighten our research about modern rural education.We can borrow ideas from the view ofotherraised by anthropology to learn the practical situation of the rural education in modern China,and use community studies to find the relationship between the rural education and the rural masses life.

Abstract:In recent years, the debate over the indigenization of sociology has got much spotlight, but few scholars have specifically examined the social and cultural causes of the rise of this issue from the perspective of the sociology of knowledge. Starting from the traditional characteristics of Chinese intellectuals, this paper puts both the May 4th sociologists, represented by Wu Wenzao, Sun Benwen and Fei Xiaotong, and the so-called“educated youth”sociologists, who arose from the reconstruction of Chinese sociology in 1979, into the perspective of comparative analysis, and explores the intrinsic relationship between the national, practical and ideological characteristics of traditional Chinese intellectuals and the issue awareness pertaining to the indigenization of sociology.Through analysis, it is found that the three traditional characteristics mentioned above have obvious continuity between the May 4th sociologists and their“educated youth”successors, which partly explains why indigenization of sociology as a discourse can still be in the ascendance after a century of vicissitudes in Chinese society.

Abstract:Sociology aims to study social structures and social changes.Sociologists have some theoretical reflections on the law of social development which are based on their actual investigation of the real world rather than on the armchair logical deduction.Due to the geographical diversity of human origin and the early isolation between different human groups,they developed quite different languages and writing systems that are the carrier of their civilizations and education systems.When different nations and countries want to share each other′s knowledge and skills,learning the other′s language and writing becomes the prerequisite for their success.With the international expansion of the European industrialization and colonialism,the ideas of the Enlightenment,modern science and technology and modern school systems in Europe have been introduced to other parts of the world.With this,the systematic learning of foreign languages has gradually become the necessary part of the formal school education in many countries,and various kinds of bilingual education have become a popular phenomenon all over the world.

Abstract:This article discusses the expansion of education systems that now, following international declarations, are expected to offer an “Education for All” to children, young people and adults. Since in these declarations special education and inclusive education are conjoined, sociological questions can be asked as to what sort of social relationships and conflicts are involved in this expansion of a sub-system that underpins mass education. The article uses recent research asking school and college heads, teachers and administrators, how they defined and treated the young people and what future they envisaged for them, given that an ideology of human capital dominates government thinking and policy.
