Abstract:The simple and precise fringe-illumination technique has been implemented to retrieve the missing information of a two-dimensional object. The object placed in a 4f optical system is illuminated with fringes, generated by a reflective-mode spatial light modulator. A set of three fringes, shifted in phase, sequentially illuminate the object, and correspondingly, three images are captured through CCD. The fringes illuminate the object and higher spatial frequencies primarily fall outside the aperture along horizontal direction heterodyne into the passband. To heterodyne higher spatial frequencies in a vertical direction, the fringes are swapped by 90 deg, and three further images are captured through CCD. These recorded images are processed to retrieve the object information using the spectrum-domain image-processing algorithm. The final image is higher in resolution compared to the band-limited image. For validity of technique, the theoretical concept was simulated and supported through experimental results. The presented system is stable against environmental factors due to on-axis geometry. (C) 2017 Optical Society of America

Abstract:A new algorithm for analyzing interferogram was presented. It overcomes the limitations of the traditional method and can process the broken interferogram resulted from the obstacles in the testing system such as RC telescope system. The new method performs well in real-time testing of the wavefront and has been successfully adopted in SPG-II digital wavefront interferometer. The method has high computation efficiency and reliable precision.

Abstract:To meet the rapidly growing demand of localisation and tracking information of mobile agents in cyber-physical systems, in this paper, we propose a fully pipelined and parallel (FPP) hardware architecture of particle probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter for multi-target tracking on the multi-cores processor hardware platforms, where an improved resampling algorithm is designed. We formulate the demand of minimising the processing delay in this architecture as an optimisation problem, which can be efficiently solved by transforming it to a group of mixed non-linear integer programming problems. Delay analysis shows that the proposed FPP particle PHD filter achieves significant improvement of real-time performance, and simulation results demonstrate that tracking performance remains at the same level as traditional particle PHD filters.

Abstract:A fast blind pixel correction method based on three-gradient threshold detection was designed in this paper,to achieve adaptive and fast blind pixel correction of the Infrared Focal Plane Array (IRFPA).First, a constraint equation through optimization of L0 paradigm was used to eliminate the interference of non-uniform stripe;then gradient threshold detection was respectively conducted in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions to find out the position of the blind pixel, thus through a point-to-point matching with the median filtering results to remove the inaccurate detecting point;finally, blind pixel correction was completed through local median filtering.In the process, reasonable updating of the blind pixel template, based on slow variation of blind pixel, was carried out to achieve fast blind pixel correction of single-frame and sequential images.The results show that compared with traditional method, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) achieved by using this proposed method is improved by 10~14dB, with the structured similarity (SSIM) index improved by 0.01~0.02;both random blind pixel and continuous blind pixel in the images can be effectively corrected, and the computing speed is dramatically improved, with a speed advantage of 3~10 times while ensuring the image quality.Hence, such proposed method can be used to achieve dynamic detection and real-time processing in actual infrared system.

Abstract:The bi-color sinusoidal fringe patterns are used to depress the effect of zero frequency extension on fundamental frequency component in Fourier transform profilometry.A novel intensity-modulated method is proposed to eliminate the zero frequency component,which can improve the measuring precision and range.Two compounding monochrome fringe patterns with phase difference of π can be obtained by separating color channel of one color image.After calibration of intensity modulation and zero component elimination,the shape is obtained.The feasibility of the algorithm is validated by both theoretical simulation and experiment performance.Compared to the traditional phase shift method to eliminate the zero frequency component,this method has a significant advantage at speed and is suitable for real-time measurement of three-dimensional objects.
Fringe Non-Uniformity Correction Method Based on Gray Difference Estimation

Abstract:Stripe non-uniformity is a relatively common fixed pattern noise in infrared focal plane array imaging systems, which has a great impact on imaging quality. It is generally believed that the non-uniformity of an image is mainly reflected in the gray level difference between pixels, that is, the gray level difference caused by the non uniformity. In order to solve this problem, a correction method of stripe non-uniformity based on gray difference estimation is proposed. According to the spatial characteristics of the strip noise, the position of the non-uniform strip in each frame is judged. According to the gray level difference between adjacent pixels at the position of the strip, the non-uniformity is preliminarily estimated, and the estimation results of the next frame arc evaluated to further improve the estimated value. Experimental results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce fringe non-uniformity and can effectively protect the edge information of the image.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem that for defocus binary coding technique, the higher harmonic components in the fringe pattern cause measurement errors, a method of generating a binary image by threshold optimization dithering algorithm is proposed. By introducing the parameter gamma to dynamically adjust the threshold, and considering the influence of different pixel gray values of the image on the dithering algorithm, the sinusoidality of the dithered image stripe after defocusing is improved. Simulation and experiments show that using the threshold optimization dithering algorithm, the fringe after defocusing has better sinusoidality when the parameter gamma is 50. Compared with the traditional Floyd-Steinberg dithering algorithm, the root mean square error can be reduced by 0.013 7 rad when the fringe period is 40 pixel. The imaging is more clear for the sag of the model, and the image quality of the surface reduction of the object is significantly improved.

Abstract:Interference image processing is the key technology of optical interference measurement. Using high resolution image sample system to recognize the interference fringe, which substituted the traditional method measured by technological worker, is improving the measurement accuracy of thin film thickness. This paper introduced the problems on automatic interference fringe processing in absolutely measurement based on laser interference, digital image processing technology. The image acquisition of the SiO2 film and the pre-processing of interferogram was performed. Decimal part of the interference fringes is obtained.

Abstract:A processing method for the precise acquisition of 1D interference spectrum from the 2D Fabry-Perot(F-P) fringe pattern is proposed in the paper. Current methods can only measure the spectrum with full-pixel accuracy. The new method is capable to achieve the sub-pixel accuracy as well as reduce the noise by taking full advantage of the 2D image information and analyzing the statistical values of pixels in a comprehensive way. Experimental results show that the accuracy of the measured Brillouin shift and linewidth is around several MHzs, which is significantly improved compared to methods with full-pixel accuracy. Abstract:We report an algorithm for searching and tracking the center of the circular interference fringes. The algorithm was programmed by VB.NET for processing the interference images captured by CCD camera. Images were changed into binary gray-level format by the Otsu method. The circular scanning method was used to extract the outline of circular interference fringes, and then the coordinates of the perpendicular subtenses were used to remove noise pixels. Finally, the coordinate of the center was calculated by statistical method. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation images. The algorithm had subpixel accuracy and anti-noise ability. Thus, the algorithm can be used in accurate measurement for its automatic processing ability.

Abstract:To simplify fringe processing, enhance the processing speed and robustness, a fringe processing method based on divided image blocks is proposed. Based on a comparison of different image binarization methods, the principles and processes of image binarization and fringe thinning of this method are described. The principle and the algorithm of threshold determination are discussed. A background tone removing method and a method for processing intermediate image parts for the improvement of image processing quality as well as the fringe thinning algorithm are described. The fringe processing method based on divided image blocks can retain useful information, remove interference and redundant information, and is of high reliability. An application of this method in moire deflectometry for the measurement of object surface profile is presented. Using this method, it is possible to reconstruct the surface profile only with two orthogonal Moire deflectograms. Good results are achieved in measurements.

Abstract:In recent years, many algorithms were proposed for fringe pattern analysis and phase unwrapping including median filter, Fourier transform, windowed Fourier transform and wavelet transforms. However most of them are computationally expensive, which may be a barrier for real-time analysis for fringe pattern. In this paper an FPGA-based system and optimization framework for fringe pattern processing is presented. Median filter and average filter are taken as examples to show the performance of FPGA system over normal PC in real-time fringe pattern processing. The algorithms have been implemented on Celoxica RC340 FPGA development board using Handel-C - a C-like language with inherent parallelism making the full use of FPGA hardware. Furthermore, evaluation and comparison for computation speed are given between FPGA-based system and normal PC to demonstrate high potential of our hardware system in fringe pattern analysis.

Abstract:The constructive and destructive fringe-like pattern (FP) introduced by the fringing effects is a universal phenomenon emerging in the imaging system using the back-illuminated CCD. Generally, the flat fielding or modeling based methods were applied to suppressing the FP and featured as time-consuming, duplicated, and hardware-based. In this paper, a method based on the wavelet transform was proposed for the interferogram processing in interference imaging spectrometer. An artificial interferogram construction method was developed and utilized to evaluate the quality of the reconstructed interferogram. The performance of defringing was significantly determined by the wavelet decomposition. Through numerical simulation, 4 wavelets were selected out of 50 typical wavelets; the decomposition levels with better performance were determined. The feasibility of the defringing and performance evaluation methods were verified by the simulation and practical experiments. It provides us with a software-based, time-saving, without prior knowledge, automatic approach for defringing.

Abstract:This paper proposes and experimentally demonstrates a new denoising and hole-filling algorithm through discrete points removal and bilinear interpolation based on the bi-material cantilever FPA infrared imaging system. In practice, because of the limitation of FPA manufacturing process and optical readout system, the quality of obtained images is always not satisfying. A lot of noise and holes appear in the images, which restrict the application of the infrared imaging system. After analyzing the causes of noise and holes, an algorithm is presented to improve the quality of infrared images. Firstly, the statistic characteristics such as probability histograms of images with noise are analyzed in great detail. Then, IR images are denoised by the method of discrete points removal. Second, the holes are filled by bilinear interpolation. In this step, the reference points are found through partial derivative method instead of using the edge points of the holes simply. It can detect the real points effectively and enable the holes much closer to the true values. Finally, the algorithm is applied to different infrared images successfully. Experimental results show that the IR images can be denoised effectively and the SNRs are improved substantially. Meanwhile, the filling ratios of target holes reach as high as 95% and the visual quality is achieved well. It proves that the algorithm has the advantages of high speed, great precision and easy implement. It is a highly efficient real-time image processing algorithm for bi-material micro-cantilever FPA infrared imaging system.

Abstract:When the interferometers with adjustable fringe visibility is used for high precision wavefront measurement, it needs to estimate the visibility of experimental patterns so as to obtain the interference patterns with the highest visibility. A new method combining Fourier-polar transform with directional projection is developed to estimate the global visibility of carrier fringe pattern. This method can also be applied to low-quality fringe patterns such as low contrast and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that often appear in the interferometer testing. Theoretical analysis shows that this method is obviously superior to the direct calculation method. In addition, an illustrative experiment based on the radial shearing interferometer is given. Results generated from this method are compared with the derived values from theoretical model of experimental system, and exemplary agreement between both is demonstrated.

Abstract:Interference image processing is the key technology of optical interference measurement. This paper introduced the problems on automatic interference fringe processing in absolutely measurement based on laser interference, digital image processing technology. The image acquisition of the SiO2 film and the pre-processing of interferogram was performed.Decimal part of the interference fringes is obtained. Using high-resolution image acquisition system and computer reads and processes the interference image, replaces the traditional work of skilled workers of high intensity for a long time and improves the film thickness measurement accuracy.

Abstract:With the development of modern science and technology, online detecting technique with high speed and high precision has been used increasingly by researchers in engineering production field. As the most effective and exact apparatus used to detect optics system and optics component, interferometer is developing quickly and its miniaturization has become one of the hotspots at present. In this paper, a systemic study was conducted to process interferograms and to realize real-time online hardware, the study gives the miniaturization a solid basis. On the basis of interferograms characteristics analysis and image noise analysis, the study of interferograms processing algorithms real time based on DSP hardware is conducted. By the analysis of interferograms characteristics, study on interference stripes noise and consideration of images processing results and easily hardware realization, multi-algorithms to smooth interferograms are analyzed and compared. At the same time, the software system of smoothing interferograms is designed which is based on DSP hardware and the real-time algorithms hardware operation is realized. The processing algorithms of interferograms are effective and can be realized by hardware easily via large numbers of experiments. Meanwhile, the DSP hardware can be used to design and simulate diminutive interferometer.
