Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the normwise, mixed, and componentwise condition numbers and their upper bounds for the MoorePenrose inverse of the Kronecker product and more general matrix function compositions involving Kronecker products. We also present the condition numbers and their upper bounds for the associated Kronecker product linear least squares solution with full column rank. In practice, the derived upper bounds for the mixed and componentwise condition numbers for Kronecker product linear least squares solution can be efficiently estimated using the HagerHigham Algorithm. Abstract:Classical condition numbers are normwise: they measure the size of both input perturbations and output errors using some norms. To take into account the relative of each data component, and, in particular, a possible data sparseness, componentwise condition numbers have been increasingly considered. These are mostly of two kinds: mixed and componentwise. In this paper, we give explicit expressions, computable from the data, for the mixed and componentwise condition numbers for the computation of the Moore-Penrose inverse as well as for the computation of solutions and residues of linear least squares problems. In both cases the data matrices have full column ( row) rank.

Abstract:It is well known that the normwise relative condition numbers measure the sensitivity of matrix inversion and the solution of nonsingular linear systems. Here, we consider the condition number formulas for the weighted Moore–Penrose inverse of a rectangular matrix and give explicit expressions for the weighted condition numbers of the singular linear systems Ax=b. These explicit expressions extend the earlier work of several authors. As we know, the computed weighted least squares solution x of minx∥Ax−b∥M, in the presence of the round-off error, satisfies the perturbed equation miny∥(A+E)y−(b+f)∥M. Finally, an upper bound of ∥y−x∥N is derived for the case where the weighted matrix and vector norms and the assumption rank(A+E)=rank(A) are used.

Abstract:Perturbation theory plays a crucial role in sensitivity analysis, which is extensively used to assess the robustness of numerical techniques. To quantify the relative sensitivity of any problem, it becomes essential to investigate structured condition numbers (CNs) via componentwise perturbation theory. This paper addresses and analyzes structured mixed condition number (MCN) and componentwise condition number (CCN) for the Moore-Penrose (M-P) inverse and the minimum norm least squares (MNLS) solution involving rank-structured matrices, which include the Cauchy-Vandermonde (CV) matrices and {1, 1}-quasiseparable (QS) matrices. A general framework has been developed to compute the upper bounds for MCN and CCN of rank deficient parameterized matrices. This framework leads to faster computation of upper bounds of structured CNs for CV and {1, 1}-QS matrices. Furthermore, comparisons of obtained upper bounds are investigated theoretically and experimentally. In addition, the structured effective CNs for the M-P inverse and the MNLS solution of {1, 1}-QS matrices are presented. Numerical tests reveal the reliability of the proposed upper bounds as well as demonstrate that the structured effective CNs are computationally less expensive and can be substantially smaller compared to the unstructured CNs.

Abstract:We extend Rump’s verified method (S.Oishi, K.Tanabe, T.Ogita, S.M.Rump (2007)) for computing the inverse of extremely ill-conditioned square matrices to computing the Moore-Penrose inverse of extremely ill-conditioned rectangular matrices with full column (row) rank. We establish the convergence of our numerical verified method for computing the Moore-Penrose inverse. We also discuss the rank-deficient case and test some ill-conditioned examples. We provide our Matlab codes for computing the Moore-Penrose inverse.

Then we estimate the error between Moore-Penrose inverse and dual Moore-Penrose generalized inverse (DMPGI) and obtain an upper bound of the error. Abstract:It is well known the concept of the condition number $\kappa(A) = \|A\|\|A^{-1}\|$, where $A$ is a $n \times n$ real or complex matrix and the norm used is the spectral norm. Although it is very common to think in $\kappa(A)$ as "the" condition number of $A$, the truth is that condition numbers are associated to problems, not just instance of problems. Our goal is to clarify this difference. We will introduce the general concept of condition number and apply it to the particular case of real or complex matrices. After this, we will introduce the classic condition number $\kappa(A)$ of a matrix and show some known results.

Abstract:In this article, new upper and lower bounds for the spectral condition number are obtained. These bounds are constructed based on the Frobenius norm of some matrices related to the given matrix and its inverse. Hence, unlike some existing bounds, these new bounds are smooth functions with respect to the elements in the matrix. It is theoretically established that the new bounds are also sandwiched by the true value of the spectral condition number and its estimates using the Frobenius norms. Moreover, the bounds give the exact value of the spectral condition number when the matrix is unitary or of order less than 3. The new upper bound provided, via statistical numerical comparison, is shown to be the best when compared with existing results.

Abstract:In this paper, we import interval method to the iteration for computing Moore-Penrose inverse of the full row (or column) rank matrix. Through modifying the classical Newton iteration by interval method, we can get better numerical results. The convergence of the interval iteration is proven.
