Abstract:In this article, inherent flame-retardant epoxy ether, 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-[1,1-bis(4-glycidyloxyphenyl)ethyl]-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DPBAEP), with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide moieties was synthesized via an economical method and was used to improve the flame retardancy of 4,4′-tetradiglycidyl diaminodiphenyl methane (TGDDM). A series of epoxy resins were prepared and cured with 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone. The glass transition temperatures ( Tg) of resin composites were above 243°C and decreased only slightly after DPBAEP was added. The thermal stabilities under the nitrogen (N2) and air atmosphere were also measured using thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicated that DPBAEP had a high decomposition temperature and affected the thermal degradation and promoted the charring of resins. When only over 5 wt% of DPBAEP was introduced, the thermosets obtained a high limiting oxygen index value of around 33.0%, achieved vertical burning V-0 rating and presented fast-swelling char barriers. In order to better understand the flame-retardant mechanisms, the residual char was investigated by scanning electron microscopy observation and Fourier transform infrared spectra. We inferred that the phosphorus (P) moieties reacted with the resin matrix, which played a significant role in promoting the formation of char with special structure, as well as making it rich and tough enough. This kind of char barrier could protect the underlying resin matrix against oxygen and heat transfer and inhibited volatile combustible from diffusing to the flame. Hence, thanks to the synergistic effect of P–N and the excellent compatibility, DPBAEP could impart excellent flame retardancy to TGDDM epoxy resin.

Abstract:Using 4,4-diaminodiphenyl methane as a curing agent, three kinds of monomers, 4,4′-dihydroxybenzophenone, diphenyl chlorophosphite and 1,4-phenylene diisocyanate (NCO), were introduced into a thermosetting resin (DGEBA). The flame retardancy properties of the composites were studied, and the results were compared with those of 5 wt% bis(bis(4-((diphenoxyphosphoryl)oxy)phenyl)methyl) 1,4-phenylenedicarbamate (DHPP-OH-NCO), 10 wt% DHPP-OH-NCO and 15 wt% DHPP-OH-NCO curing agents. The results showed that 15 wt% DHPP-OH-NCO had an improved flame retardancy, the limited oxygen index reached 33.5% and the vertical burning test (UL94) achieved a V-0 level. A cone calorimeter experiment showed that the addition of the flame retardant significantly reduced the amount of generated smoke and heat. Macroscopic digital images, scanning electron microscopy images and thermogravimetric analysis results further revealed that the epoxy resin (EP) with DHPP-OH-NCO exhibited greater char yields. The flame retardancy mechanism of the flame retardant was preliminarily shown by pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. The combined test results demonstrate that a high-efficiency phosphorous-containing flame retardant for EPs was successfully developed.

Abstract:A new phosphorus containing anhydride (DPO-MA) curing agent is successfully synthesized via the addition reaction between diphenylphosphinoxid (DPO) and maleic anhydride (MA). It can improve the flame retardancy of epoxy resin (EP) without significantly deteriorating its mechanical properties. Due to the high efficiency of the gas phase flame-retard mechanism, only 1.0 wt% of phosphorus is sufficient to increase the LOI value to 33.1% and UL-94 to V0 rating. Cone calorimetry data shows that the peak of heat release decreases more than 42% than that of neat EP during combustion. Besides, the rigid DPO skeleton in the molecular chain can greatly improve the T-g value of the DPO-MA/EP-1.0, which is as high as 125 degrees C, much higher than that of neat EP. Thus, this work exhibits a great potential value for EP materials.

Abstract:In this work, two kinds of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-based phosphonamidate flame retardants named 4,4-diamino-diphenyl methane (DDM)-DOPO and morpholine (MPL)-DOPO are successfully synthesized by the classic Atherton-Todd reaction, and their chemical structures are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Epoxy composites containing DDM-DOPO or MPL-DOPO are prepared, which still retain relatively high transparency compared with pure epoxy resin (EP). Its fire behavior is studied in terms of vertical burning test (UL-94), limiting oxygen index (LOI), and cone calorimeter tests. The LOI values can achieve 30% and UL-94 test past V-0 rating for DDM-DOPO-modified epoxy composites with 0.25 wt% phosphorus content. The cone calorimeter results indicate that the modified epoxy composites can release less heat and smoke compared with pure EP. Also, thermal degradation behavior and flame-retardant mechanism of epoxy composites are investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry. The results indicate that two DOPO-based phosphonamidates show a significant gaseous-phase effect on reducing the release of combustible volatiles.

Abstract:In this study, a high effective phosphorus‐containing flame retardant (DOP‐DDM) was synthesized using phenylphosphonic dichloride, p‐hydroxybenzaldehyde, 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenan‐ threne‐10‐oxide (DOPO) and 4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) as raw materials. The chemical structure of DOP‐DDM was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (31P NMR). The epoxy resin (EP) material with 4.7 wt% DOP‐DDM (EP‐4.7) can reach V‐0 degree in UL 94 test and has LOI value as high as 33.5%. If neat EP (EP‐0) material is used as a control, even if the loading of DOP‐DDM in the flame‐retarded EP material reached 7.6 wt%, the transmittance can reach 96.8% of EP‐0. From cone combustion (CC) test, the peak of heat release rate (pHRR), total heat release (THR) and total smoke release (TSR) values of EP‐4.7 material were decreased in comparison to those of EP‐0. Compared with EP‐0 material, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic thermo mechanical (DMA) results showed that the glass transition temperature of EP‐4.7 material slightly increased, and the storage modulus (E′) and loss modulus (E′′) increased 65.7% and 47.3%, respectively. The morphology and graphitization degree of residual char after CC test were measured by SEM and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. Concurrently, the gas components of EP‐4.7 material were well analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis FTIR. All these results demonstrated that the DOP‐DDM played a role in gas‐phase and condensed‐phase.

Abstract:Poly(DOPO substituted dihydroxyl phenyl pentaerythritol diphosphonate) (PFR) was synthesized via the reaction between 10-(2,5-dihydroxyl-phenyl)-9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO-BQ) and pentaerythritol diphosphonate dichloride (SPDPC). The structures of PFR were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). Thermal degradation behaviors and flame retardant properties of the epoxy resin (ER)/PFR systems were investigated from the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UL-94 test and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) test. Moreover, the surface morphology of the char residue was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When the PFR content reached 10wt%, the epoxy resin system met the UL-94 V0 classification and the LOI value of 30.2. The microscale combustion calorimetry (MCC) was used to evaluate the combustion behaviors of the ER/PFR. It was found that the addition of PFR obviously decreased the value of peak heat release rate and total heat release of the hybrids. The TGA results showed that the epoxy resin with 10wt% PFR exhibited high char yields. The high char yields and the high limiting oxygen index values were found to certify the excellent flame retardancy of this phosphorus-containing epoxy resin.

Abstract:A phosphaphenanthrene/piperidine-containing phenolic derivative (PHTD) was synthesized through the one-pot reaction between triacetonediamine, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide. The intumescent reactive flame-retardant epoxy thermosets (P-0.25, P-0.5, P-0.75 and P-1.0) were composed of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A, 1,3,5-triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC), 4,4′-diamino-diphenyl sulfone (DDS) and PHTD. Due to the incorporation of PHTD and TGIC, the flame retardancy of EP samples was remarkably improved. For instance, the LOI value and UL94 rating for P-0.75 sample with only 0.75 mass% phosphorus reached 36.6% and V-0. The average of heat release rate, peak of heat release rate and total heat release for P-1.0 system were decreased by 35.6%, 52.5% and 36.4% compared with those for EP/DDS system. During combustion, plenty of PO radicals, hindered amine and isocyanate fragments were generated by the pyrolysis of PHTD and TGIC in gaseous phase, which suppressed the combustion reaction and diluted the fuels. In condensed phase, the pyrolytic products of phosphaphenanthrene and triazine-trione groups jointly promoted the formation of a compact and intumescent char layer to isolate heat and oxygen. The remarkable improvement of flame retardancy of EP thermoset was ascribed to the flame-retardant effects of PHTD and TGIC in gaseous and condensed phases.

Abstract:Two novel halogen-free flame retardants, DP-DDE and DP-DDS, were synthesized via a one-pot procedure based on the Pudovik reactions between 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DOPO) and imines directly resulting from the condensation reactions of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde with two typical curing agents, 4,4′-oxydianiline (DDE) and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS), respectively. The fire-resistant properties of DP-DDE or DP-DDS modified epoxy resins (2,2-bis(4-glycidyloxyphenyl)propane) with 4,4′-methylenedianiline as hardener were been investigated by UL-94 vertical test. Their high flame-retarding performance has been found: the epoxy thermosets with a relatively low addition amount of DP-DDE or DP-DDS (on the account of phosphorus content of 0.75 wt.% or 0.73 wt.%) can reach UL-94 V-0 flammability rating. These thermosets demonstrated excellent thermal stability, high glass transition temperature (Tg > 135 °C) and high char yields (>22% at 800 °C). Moreover, the thermal degradation kinetics of the flame retardants and their corresponding epoxy thermosets were studied based on Kissinger, Ozawa and FWO methods by thermogravimetric analysis.
Single component phosphamide-based intumescent flame retardant with potential reactivity towards low flammability and smoke epoxy resins

Abstract:To develop a low flammability and smoke epoxy resin, benzothiazole-based phosphamide (DOP-ABZ) was prepared through the reaction of 2-chloro-5,5-dimethyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphinane-2-oxide (DOP) and 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABZ). Intumescent flame-retardant (IFR) epoxy thermosets (EP) with different loadings of DOP-ABZ were prepared according to the assigned curing procedure. The thermal stability of IFR-EP decreased as compared to that of EP, but the flame retardancy of IFR-EP were greatly improved. EP/20 wt% DOP-ABZ passed UL-94 V-0 rating and got a high LOI value of 28.3%. Meanwhile, cone calorimeter tests showed that the heat release rate greatly decreased from 1139.7 kW/m2 of EP to 238.9 kW/m2, and the productions of smoke/toxic gases including CO and CO2 were also remarkably reduced. Furthermore, the mechanical strength of EP/17.5 wt% DOP-ABZ was enhanced to some extent, i.e. tensile strength increased from 71 MPa of EP to 81 MPa, flexural strength from 98 to 119 MPa, and impact strength from 22 to 32 kJ/m2. Finally, the flame-retardant mechanism was disclosed that DOP-ABZ produced phosphorus-containing acids so as to dehydrate and carbonize epoxy macromolecules leading to the formation of graphitized chars. Meanwhile, the nitrogen/sulfur-containing intermediates simultaneously released noncombustible gases to expand the as-formed char, and then interrupt the combustion reaction.
Synthesis of a novel nonflammable eugenol-based phosphazene epoxy resin with unique burned intumescent char

Abstract:Developing bioresourced epoxy resin with excellent flame retardancy is challenging for satisfying environmental and fire hazard requirements. Herein, a novel monomer with six functional epoxy groups was successfully synthesized by combining eugenol with hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene. Using aliphatic diamine as a curing agent, a novel epoxy of EHPE-D230 was prepared, and its properties were systematically evaluated. Compared with commercial epoxy resin (E51-D230), EHEP-D230 possessed a higher tensile strength (56.7 to 64.2 MPa) and better thermal resistance (Tα = 85 to 119 °C). Moreover, EHEP-D230 exhibited a high limiting oxygen index value of 31%, and it passed the UL94 V-0 test without any after-flame time. Cone calorimeter test indicated that the peak value of the heat release rate, total heat release, and total smoke production for EHEP-D230 reduced significantly by 66%, 65%, and 78%, respectively, compared with those of E51-D230. The EHEP-D230 residual char exhibited a compact and continuous exterior structure and a honeycomb-like hollow vesicle interior structure. This unique intumescent char endowed EHEP-D230 with excellent flame retardancy and smoke suppression, rendering it a potential candidate for fire-resistant applications.

Abstract:A novel phosphorus- and nitrogen-containing compound (POPHA) has been synthesized by allowing phosphorus oxychloride to react with piperazine and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). Its structure was characterized by FTIR, H-1 NMR, and P-31 NMR. A series of UV-curable flame-retardant resins were obtained by blending POPHA with EA M different ratios. The flame-retardant properties were characterized by the limiting oxygen index (LOI) and microscale combustion calorimeter (MCC). The results showed that the incorporation of POPHA into FA can improve the flame retardancy of EA dramatically. The thermal properties of the resins were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in air atmosphere. Moreover, the thermal degradation mechanisms of the EA/POPHA were investigated by real-time Fourier transform infrared spectra (RTIR), thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG-IR), and direct pyrolysis/mass (DP-MS). The morphologies of the formed chars were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) demonstrating the most effective amount of POPHA is 20 wt %.
Facile Synthesis of A Highly Efficient, Halogen-Free, and Intumescent Flame Retardant for Epoxy Resins: Thermal Properties, Combustion Behaviors, and Flame-Retardant Mechanisms

Abstract:A novel branched poly(phosphonamidate-phosphonate) (BPPAPO) oligomer was synthesized from the polycondensation of phenylphosphonic dichloride and tri-hydroxymethylphosphine oxide followed by end-capping with aniline in a one-pot synthesis. BPPAPO exhibited excellent flame-retardant efficiency in epoxy resins (EP). With only 5.0 wt % loading, the EP composite reached UL-94 V-0 rating with a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 35.5%. BPPAPO catalyzed the early degradation of EP and promoted the formation of more char residue. Glass transition temperatures were partially lowered. When 7.5 wt % BPPAPO was incorporated, the peak heat release rate and total heat release were decreased by 66.2% and 37.3%, respectively, with a delayed ignition and the formation of a highly intumescent char residue. Combination of gas-phase and condensed-phase flame-retardant mechanisms was verified.

Abstract:A bio‐based reactive flame retardant (PVD) was synthesized using vanillin, phenethylamine, and 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO). This study aimed to enhance epoxy resin's fire resistance and evaluate the strength of EP/PVD composites for eco‐friendly specialized applications. The chemical structure of PVD was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The effect of PVD on the curing kinetics of EP was studied using non‐isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). During combustion, PVD releases ∙PO2 and ∙PO radicals, which capture the active ∙H and ∙OH radicals generated during the combustion of EP. This results in a significant quenching effect, thereby achieving flame retardancy. EP with 7.5 wt% PVD and 0.49 wt% phosphorus (EP/PVD‐7.5) exhibited a V‐0 rating in UL‐94 vertical burning tests and a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 32.4%. Additionally, compared to pure EP, EP/PVD‐7.5 showed a 41.7% reduction in the peak heat‐release rate during cone calorimetry tests. The dual‐phase flame‐retardant effect of PVD was confirmed by the analysis of the residual char and its pyrolysis behavior. Furthermore, EP/PVD exhibits superior mechanical properties and transparency compared to pure EP, indicating that PVD holds promise as a flame retardant for EP.

Abstract:A triazine ring-containing charring agent (PEPATA) was synthesized via the reaction between 2,6,7-trioxa-l-phosphabicyclo-[2.2.2]octane-4-methanol (PEPA) and cyanuric chloride. It was applied into intumescent flame retardant epoxy resins (IFR-EP) as a charring agent. The effect of PEPATA on fire retardancy and thermal degradation behavior of IFR-EP system was investigated by limited oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 test, microscale combustion calorimetry (MCC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG-IR). The glass transition temperatures (T(g)) of IFR-EP systems were studied by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The LOI values increased from 21.5 for neat epoxy resins (EPs) to 34.0 for IFR-EP, demonstrating improved flame retardancy. The TGA curves showed that the amount of residue of IFR-EP system was largely increased compared to that of neat EP at 700 degrees C. The new IFR-EP system could apparently reduce the amount of decomposing products at higher temperatures and promotes the formation of carbonaceous charred layers that slowed down the degradation. Abstract:A highly effective 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-based flame retardant (D-bp) was successfully synthesized via the addition reaction between DOPO and Schiff-base obtained in advance by the condensation of 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde. D-bp was used as co-curing agent to improve the flame retardancy of DDM/diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) system. Non-isothermal curing kinetics, thermal and flame-retardant properties of cured epoxy resins were studied by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimeric analysis (TGA), UL94 vertical burning test, limited oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter test. The morphology of residues after cone calorimeter test was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results revealed that the epoxy thermosets exhibited excellent flame-retardancy and passed V-0 rating of UL 94 test with LOI of 39.7% when the phosphorus content was only 0.5 wt%.

Preparation of a Polymeric Phosphoramide Flame-Retardant and Its Effect on the Flame-Retardant Properties of Epoxy Resin

Abstract:The flammability of epoxy resins and knowing how to achieve curing are particularly important factors during use. A novel approach for enhancing the fire resistance and reducing the smoke emission of epoxy resin during the curing process is suggested, which involves the utilization of a three-source integrated polymerization intumescent flame-retardant. In this study, the synthesis of poly 4,4-diaminodiphenylsulfone spirocyclic pentaerythritol bisphosphonate (PCS) is achieved through using solution polymerization, utilizing 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) and spirocyclic pentaerythritol bisphosphorate disphosphoryl chloride (SPDPC) as initial components. Following that, the EP underwent the inclusion of PCS to examine its resistance to heat, its ability to prevent flames, its effectiveness in reducing smoke and its curing effect. Compared to the unmodified epoxy resin, the addition of PCS can not only cure the epoxy resin, but also decompose before the epoxy resin and has a good carbonization effect. With the addition of 7 wt.% PCS, the LOI value can achieve 31.2% and successfully pass the UL-94 test with a V-0 rating. Moreover, the cone calorimeter experiment demonstrated a noteworthy decline of 59.7% in the maximum heat release rate (pHRR), 63.7% in overall heat release (THR), and 42.3% in total smoke generation (TSP). Based on the examination of TG-FTIR and SEM findings, there is ample evidence to suggest that PCS, functioning as a phosphorus-nitrogen intumescent flame-retardant that combines three origins, has the potential to exhibit a favorable flame-retardant impact in both its gas and condensed phases.

Abstract:A novel phosphorus-containing compound (DOPO-THPO) is synthesized via the Atherton-Todd-reaction between 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and trihydroxymethylphosphine oxide (THPO), and then employed as flame retardant for diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/4-4 diaminodiphenylmethane epoxy resin (DGEBA/DDM). Based on the ultra-low phosphorus loading, the highly efficient flame retarded epoxy resin (EP) systems are successfully established in this work. Remarkable improvements in the limited oxygen index (LOI) values and UL-94 rating of flame retarded EP systems are observed. In detail, when the phosphorus content is only 0.33 wt%, the EP composite receives V-0 rating in the UL-94 vertical burning test with LOI value of 30%. Heat release of EP composites is obviously inhibited with the formation of intumescent char residue. Furthermore, TG-IR result of DOPO-THPO shows the generation of phosphorus containing products, which may provide a gaseous phase flame retardant function on EP. This work may open the new door for the construction of highly efficient flame retardant EP system based on the ultra-low phosphorus loading.
Synthesis and flame‐retardant analysis of a novel P/N containing flame retardant on epoxy resin composites

Abstract:A new reactive flame‐retardant N′‐(1‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1‐(6‐oxido‐6H‐dibenzo[c,e][1,2]oxaphosphinin‐6‐yl)ethyl) benzohydrazide (DOPO‐BD) was synthesized via a two‐step reaction involving the Schiff base reaction between benzohydrazide and 4‐hydroxy acetophenone, followed by a reaction between the imine‐based condensation product and 9, 10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO). The chemical structure of DOPO‐BD was well characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), 1H, 13C, 31P NMR, and high‐resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The DOPO‐BD was utilized as a reactive flame retardant and co‐hardener in DGEBA/DDS. The epoxy composites of varying phosphorus weight percentages were synthesized. UL‐94 and LOI tests were used to investigate the flammability of composites. The epoxy composites retained good transparency, which was measured by UV–vis spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) observed an increase in the thermal stability of epoxy composites in a higher temperature range with increased char yield. In the UL‐94 and LOI tests, EP/DOPO‐BD(1.5%P) sample gave a V‐0 rating and 30% LOI value. The cone calorimeter test indicated a decrease in total heat released (THR), peak of heat release rate (pHRR), and total smoke production (TSP) for EP/DOPO‐BD(1.5%P) in comparison with epoxy (EP). The mechanical properties and glass transition temperature (Tg) of the epoxy composites were determined by Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), which showed an increase in storage modulus and a decrease in Tg.

Abstract:Polydopamine (PDA) was prepared by using dopamine which has good charring ability. The PDA was used as an environmentally friendly flame retardant and combined with 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxo‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) to improve the flame retardancy of epoxy (EP) resin. The flame retardancy and thermal stability of EP composites were researched by UL‐94 vertical burning, limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimetry tests, and thermal gravimetric analyzer. Adding DOPO alone requires 6% to make EP obtain the UL‐94 V0. If DOPO and PDA are combined, only 4% is needed to make EP obtain the UL‐94 V0, which suggests that there is good synergistic effect between them. Moreover, the peak of heat release rate of EP/DOPO/PDA composites is less than that of EP/DOPO composites. The reactions among EP, DOPO, and PDA reduce the release of combustible gases at the early stage of degradation; at the same time, DOPO volatilize to the gas phase, quench the free radicals, and the combustion can be stopped. In addition, due to the decrease of the amount of PDA/DOPO, the EP composite can get a higher glass transition temperature, but due to the aggregation of PDA in EP, the tensile property of EP composite decreases.

Abstract:We successfully prepared a highly effective flame-retardant additive called hsalbenzoguanamine phosphaphenanthrene (HDPD) through salicylaldehyde and nitrogen-rich benzoguanamine. The introduction of HDPD into epoxy resin (EP) sharply enhanced the flame retardancy of EP/HDPD thermosets. The introduction of 6 wt% HDPD into EP succeeded in reaching the V-0 rating. Limited oxygen index results revealed the high flame-retarding performance of HDPD. Cone calorimeter test data revealed that heat and smoke released from EP/6 wt% HDPD thermoset were significantly restrained. In addition, EP/6 wt% HDPD thermoset demonstrated excellent transmittance and mechanical strength. The transmittance of EP/6 wt% HDPD was assessed from 520 to 800 nm. The results showed that transmittance of EP/6 wt% HDPD were nearly 90% of the control group.
