Abstract:We introduce a new notion called generalized dominated splitting which is weaker than classical dominated splitting. We use this notion to generalize a result of Zhang\cite{Zh}: every diffeomorphism with nontrivial global generalized dominated splitting can not be minimal.

Abstract:We characterize diffeomorphisms that are C-1 away from homoclinic tangencies by using dominated splittings on the C-1 preperiodic sets. Abstract:In this paper, it is proved that there us no compact stable minimal submanifolds in a compact simply-connected 0.77-pinched Riemannian manifold, so that a conjecture of Lawson-Simons is supported In particular, the conjecture is true for complete L-pinched hypersurfaces in Rm+l with m greater than or equal to 3, Moreover, the instability of a compact domain of a minimal submanifold in delta -pinched manifolds is considered.

Abstract:Let f : M -> M be a C-1 diffeomorphism with a dominated splitting on a compact Riemanian manifold M without boundary. We state and prove several sufficient conditions for the topological entropy of f to be positive. The conditions deal with the dynamical behaviour of the (non -necessarily invariant) Lebesgue measure. In particular, if the Lebesgue measure is (5 recurrent then the entropy of f is positive. We give counterexamples showing that these sufficient conditions are not necessary. Finally, in the case of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, we give a positive lower bound for the entropy relating it with the dimension of the unstable and stable sub-bundles.

Abstract:For a $C^{r}$ $(r>1)$ diffeomorphism on a compact manifold that admits a dominated splitting, this paper establishes the upper semi-continuity of the entropy map. More precisely, given a sequence of invariant measures with only positive Lyapunov exponents along a sub-bundle and non-positive Lyapunov exponents along another sub-bundle, the upper limit of their metric entropies is less than or equal to the entropy of the limiting measure.

Abstract: We generalize the splitting theorem of Cai-Galloway for complete Riemannian manifolds with $\Ric\geq-(n-1)$ admitting a family of compact hypersurfaces tending to infinity with mean curvatures tending to $n-1$ sufficiently fast to the setting of smooth metric measure spaces. This result complements and provides a new perspective on the splitting theorems recently proven by Munteanu-Wang and Su-Zhang. We show that the mean curvature assumption in our result is sharp, which also provides an example showing that the assumption $R\geq-(n-1)$ in the Munteanu-Wang splitting theorem for expanding gradient Ricci solitons cannot be relaxed to $R>-n$. We also use our result to study a certain class of conformally compact quasi-Einstein metrics, giving, as generalizations of respective results of Cai-Galloway and Lee, necessary conditions for the boundary to be connected and for the bottom of the spectrum of the weighted Laplacian to be maximal.
Dominated splitting from constant periodic data and global rigidity of Anosov automorphisms

Abstract:We show that a $\mathrm{GL}(d,\mathbb{R})$ cocycle over a hyperbolic system with constant periodic data has a dominated splitting whenever the periodic data indicates it should. This implies global periodic data rigidity of generic Anosov automorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^d$. Further, our approach also works when the periodic data is narrow, that is, sufficiently close to constant. We can show global periodic data rigidity for certain non-linear Anosov diffeomorphisms in a neighborhood of an irreducible Anosov automorphism with simple spectrum.

If mu is an f-invariant probability measure which is absolutely continuous relative to Lebesgue measure and for mu a : e : x is an element of M; there is a dominated splitting Torb(x)M = E circle plus F on its orbit orb(x), then we give an estimation through Lyapunov characteristic exponents from below in Pesin's entropy formula, i.e., the metric entropy h(mu)(f) satisfiesh(mu)(f) >= integral chi(x)d mu,where chi(x) = Sigma(dim)(i=1) (F(x)) lambda(i)(x) and lambda(1)(x) >= lambda(2)(x) >= ... >= lambda(dim M)(x) are the Lyapunov exponents at x with respect to mu.Consequently, we obtain that Pesin's entropy formula always holds for (1) volume-preserving Anosov diffeomorphisms, (2) volume-preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional center bundle, (3) volume-preserving diffeomorphisms far away from homoclinic tangency, and (4) generic volume-preserving diffeomorphisms.

For minimal Lagrangian diffeomorphisms between hyperbolic disks, the result is known, but this is the first proof that does not use anti-de Sitter geometry. We show that the result fails without the $L^{1}$ assumption in variable curvature. The key input for our proof is the uniqueness of solutions for a certain Plateau problem in a product of trees.

Abstract:We say that a graph $H$ dominates another graph $H'$ if the number of homomorphisms from $H'$ to any graph $G$ is dominated, in an appropriate sense, by the number of homomorphisms from $H$ to $G$. We study the family of dominating graphs, those graphs with the property that they dominate all of their subgraphs. It has long been known that even-length paths are dominating in this sense and a result of Hatami implies that all weakly norming graphs are dominating. In a previous paper, we showed that every finite reflection group gives rise to a family of weakly norming, and hence dominating, graphs. Here we revisit this connection to show that there is a much broader class of dominating graphs.

Abstract:In this article we introduce a definition of topological minimal sets, which is a generalization of that of Mumford-Shah-minimal sets. We prove some general properties as well as two existence theorems for topological minimal sets. As an application we prove the topological minimality of the union of two almost orthogonal planes in $\R^4$, and use it to improve the angle criterion under which the union of several higher dimensional planes is Almgren-minimal.

Abstract:We show that for any connected smooth manifold $M$ of dimension different from $3$ the restriction of the compact-open topology to the diffeomorphism group of $M$ is minimal, i.e. the group does not admit a strictly coarser Hausdorff group topology. This implies the minimality of the compact-open topology on the homeomorphism group of $M$ in all dimensions different from $3$ and $4$. In those cases for which in addition to all of this automatic continuity is known to hold, such as when $M$ is closed, one can conclude that the compact-open topology is the unique separable Hausdorff group topology on the homeomorphism group.

Abstract:. We show that if a real Kähler Euclidean submanifold is as far as possible of being minimal, then it should split locally as a product of hypersurfaces almost everywhere, possibly in lower codimension. In addition, if the manifold is complete, simply connected and has constant nullity, it should split globally as a product of surfaces in ℝ^3 and an Euclidean factor. Several applications are also given.

Abstract:A dominating set $S$ in a graph is a subset of vertices such that every vertex is either in $S$ or adjacent to a vertex in $S$. A minimal dominating set $M$ is a dominating set such that $M-v$ is not a dominating set for all $v \in M$. In this paper we introduce a reconfiguration graph $\mathcal{R}(G)$ for minimal dominating sets under a generalization of the token sliding model. We give some preliminary results which include showing that $\mathcal{R}(G)$ is connected for trees and split graphs. Additionally we classify all graphs which have $\mathcal{R}(G) = K_n$ and $\mathcal{R}(G) = \overline{K_n}$ for all $n$.

Abstract:As is well-known, there exist nonconstant holomorphic maps from the plane into the Riemann sphere $\PP^1$ minus two points, the simplest example of which is an explicit realization of the uniformization map given by applying the exponential map and then composing with a Mobius transformation taking 0 and $\infty$ to the two given punctures. Likewise, we can map the plane into the sphere minus one point by simply applying directly a Mobius transformation taking $\infty$ to this puncture. In this paper we prove two parametrized versions of this uniformization result using different methods. We first present a slightly easier version using complex analysis, which allows us to construct the uniformizing maps more or less explicitly in terms of the initial coordinates given. Then we give the more general and coordinate invariant version, which we prove by extending Kodaira's theory of the Jacobian fibration to a family of singular curves constructed via algebraic geometry. Finally, using the results obtained with the Jacobian fibration, we obtain two equivalent conditions for an complex surface nonhyperbolically fibered over a complex curve to be holomorphically dominable by $\CC^2$. In theorem \ref{thm:surf} we show that this dominability is equivalent to the apparently weaker condition of the existence of a Zariski dense image of $\CC$ and equivalent to the quasiprojectivity of the base curve together with the nonnegativity of the orbifold Euler characteristic.
