Abstract:Established in 1957, the Speciality of Semiconductor of Tsinghua University was one of the results in the study of Soviet mode education in the universities of engineering courses. After the development of more than 20 years, it possessed a fairly large scale. And based on it, the Institute of Microelectronics of Tsinghua University was set up in 1980. It became a teaching and scientific research unit of considerable scale directly under the leadership of Tsinghua University, and succeeded in the combination of teaching and scientific research, scientific innovation and transformation of achievements among domestic colleges and universities. According to such data as documents and interviews, this paper narrates how the teaching and research group, viz. the predecessor of the institute , came into existence, and the establishment and development thereafter.
