Abstract:To study the microstructure evolution behavior of titanium microalloyed steel during heat treatment, we studied the effects of different heat treatment temperatures on the microstructures and properties of titanium microalloyed steels. A high-temperature laser confocal experiment was used to observe the microstructural changes in the steel during heating, and the subsequent heat treatment temperatures were determined. Four experimental steels with different titanium contents were heat treated at 860 °C, 880 °C, 900 °C, and 920 °C. These heat treatments were combined with OM and TEM analyses of the mechanical properties and microstructural changes in the steels. The results showed that steel with a high titanium content corresponded to a high optimal heat treatment temperature, which could achieve grain refinement at high temperatures. As the heat treatment temperature increased, the strengths of all four test steels first decreased and then gradually decreased, while the ductility first increased and then decreased. The microstructures of the microalloyed steels exhibited pearlite spheroidization, carbide precipitation, carbide growth, homogenization, and matrix dissolution. When the carbide precipitated, the best mechanical properties could be obtained. This discovery could provide a microscopic theoretical mechanism for optimizing the optimal heat treatment of titanium microalloyed steel.
