Mesoscale fluid flow was assumed to be the main mechanism that causing significant attenuation at seismic frequencies. In order to understand the local flow mechanism, we carry out an experiment to simulate the wave propagation and wave-induced fluid flow in White’s patchy-saturated model. The results indicate that strong pressure gradient will be produced as seismic wave propagates through the fluid distributed heterogeneous porous media. Significant fluid flow occurs across the interface between the two phases, but there is scarcely any flow inner each phase.
