Abstract:The Tc formula obtained in the previous two papers of this series is generalized to the following form: Tc=αωlog(ωlog/ωc)(μ*/(λ-μ*))exp{-(1+λ)/(λ-μ*)}, and a set of equations to be used to calculate the function a, is derived from the linear Eliashberg equation. a is a function of λ and μ* in general. In the weak coupling limit, we obtain a = 2γ/π from the set of equations mentioned above, where Inγ = C = 0.5772 is the Euler constant. Hence the Tc formula obtained in the two previous papers is correct in the same limit. We further calculate numerically the value of a when λ=0.23, 0.25, 0.38 and 0.48 from the set of equations mentioned above for the case of the Einstein spectrum and μ*= 0. Our results show that at least, in the interval 0.23 ≤λ≤ 0.48, a is vary small and equal to 1/1.30 approximately. With this value of a, the Tc formula obtained by us reduce practically to the empirical McMillan Tc formula in the version proposed by Allen and Dynes.
A Differential Operator for Integrating One-Loop Scattering Equations

Abstract:We propose a differential operator for computing the residues associated with a class of meromorphic n-forms that frequently appear in the Cachazo-He-Yuan form of the scattering amplitudes. This differential operator is conjectured to be uniquely determined by the local duality theorem and the intersection number of the divisors in the n-form. We use the operator to evaluate the one-loop integrand of Yang-Mills theory from their generalized CHY formulae. The method can reduce the complexity of the calculation. In addition, the expression for the 1-loop four-point Yang-Mills integrand obtained in our approach has a clear correspondence with the Q-cut results.

Abstract:The analytic solutions to the Eliashberg equation for the superconducting Tc obtained by the Chinese physicists, mainly Wu and his co-workers, during the years 1977–1985 are systematically reviewed. Two independent and mutually complementary formulae which hold in the regions λ > Λ and λ < Λ, respectively are obtained. Here, Λ is a material dependent parameter and its definition will be given in the paper. The analytic derivations and the properties of these two formulae are discussed and analysed in detail. The values of Tc calculated from them are compared with the experimental values and the numerical solutions of the Eliashberg equation. They are compared further with those given by other Tc formulae proposed by previous authors and some comments are given.

Abstract:A Tcformula is derived analytically from the Eliashberg equation by an iterative method. The Karakozov et al. Tcformula is only a weak-coupling limit of it. The values of Tccalculated from this formula are in agreement with the experimental values for both crystalline and amorphous superconducting materials. Certain reasonable approximations are made to render the Tcformula simplified and several useful formulae for Tccontaining only a few parameters are obtained, one of which is just the Rowell empirical Tcformula. The Tcformulae obtained in the present paper are compared further with some empirical ones proposed by previous authors and some comments are given.

Abstract:In the case of μ* = 0, the following Tc formula is derived analytically from the Eliashberg equation Tc=αωlogexp{-b((1+cλ)/λ)}, where, α = 2γ/π, b = c =1 and In γ = C = 0.5772 which is the Euler constant.The formula obtained by the authors holds only when Tc is less than 0.36/ α (K), where a is a constant larger than 1 and differs from one material to another. We conjecture, it is very likely that, when Tc is larger than 0.36/a, the functional structure of the Tc formula differs from that of McMillan's or at least the parameters a, b, and c are no longer constants independent of materials.

Abstract:We perform simple mathematical analysis of the Eliashberg gap equations, and derive the analytic expression at the superconducting critical temperature. In order to perform exact summation of L(T_c )=∑λ_m1/|2m-1| , we use the Einstein and Debye models for the Eliashberg spectral function. This quantity is in good agreement with data derived from experimental and DFT data. To the leading-term approximation, the analytic expression of the superconducting critical temperature is of the form T_c=(2e^(γ-1))/π ω_x exp⁡{-(1+μ*ln⁡(4e^γ m_c ))/λ}, where ω_x=ω_2 or ω_ln. The frequencies ω_2 and ω_ln come out naturally from the models. These equations contain m_c as an adjustable parameter. There are no other free parameters and no empirical formula involved. We compare the results of these equations with the celebrated Allen-Dynes modified McMillan equation together with the data from experiments and DFT calculations. The data show strong correlation between our analytic expression and the celebrated Allen-Dynes equation.

Abstract:Twenty years ago, Witten proposed a first order nonlinear PDE (Witten equation) as the replacement of Cauchy-Riemann equation in the Landau-Ginzburg setting. Several years ago, a comprehensive theory was developed by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan to solve Witten equation in the case of pure Landau-Ginzburg model. In this article, we describe several possible generalizations into tonic setting.

Abstract:A bstract A new nonlinear integral equation (NLIE) describing the thermodynamics of the Heisenberg spin chain is derived based on the t − W relation of the quantum transfer matrices. The free energy of the system in a magnetic field is thus obtained by solving the NLIE. This method can be generalized to other lattice quantum integrable models. Taking the SU(3)-invariant quantum spin chain as an example, we construct the corre- sponding NLIEs and compute the free energy. The present results coincide exactly with those obtained via other methods previously.

Abstract:In the present paper, the conclusion we arrive through analyzing the (dTc/dλ)-λ curve is that the Tc-λ curve is composed of three parts with entirely different properties, namely, "McMillan region", "λn region" and "series solution region". This conclusion is identical with that obtained in paper [20] except that the value of n is, in general, not equal to 1.55 but is a real number larger than 0.5 and varies with, the shape of the effective phonon spectrum.

Abstract:We consider a three-dimensional effective theory of Polyakov lines derived previously from lattice Yang-Mills theory and QCD by means of a resummed strong coupling expansion. The effective theory is useful for investigations of the phase structure, with a sign problem mild enough to allow simulations also at finite density. In this work we present a numerical method to determine improved values for the effective couplings directly from correlators of the 4d Yang-Mills theory. For values of the gauge coupling up to the vicinity of the phase transition, the dominant short range effective coupling are well described by their corresponding strong coupling series. We provide numerical results also for the longer range interactions, Polyakov lines in higher representations as well as four-point interactions, and discuss the growing significance of non-local contributions as the lattice gets finer. Within this approach the critical Yang-Mills coupling $\beta_c$ is reproduced to better than one percent from a one-coupling effective theory on $N_\tau=4$ lattices while up to five couplings are needed on $N_\tau=8$ for the same accuracy.

Abstract:Applying a Weyl-Stratonovich transform to the evolution equation of the Wigner function in an electromagnetic field yields a multidimensional gauge-invariant equation which is numerically very challenging to solve. In this work, we apply simplifying assumptions for linear electromagnetic fields and the evolution of an electron in a plane (two-dimensional transport), which reduces the complexity and enables to gain first experiences with a gauge-invariant Wigner equation. We present an equation analysis and show that a finite difference approach for solving the high-order derivatives allows for reformulation into a Fredholm integral equation. The resolvent expansion of the latter contains consecutive integrals, which is favorable for Monte Carlo solution approaches. To that end, we present two stochastic (Monte Carlo) algorithms that evaluate averages of generic physical quantities or directly the Wigner function. The algorithms give rise to a quantum particle model, which interprets quantum transport in heuristic terms.

Abstract:It is known that perturbative expansions in powers of the coupling in quantum mechanics (QM) and quantum field theory (QFT) are asymptotic series. This can be useful at weak coupling but fails at strong coupling. In this work, we present two types of series expansions valid at strong coupling. We apply the series to a basic integral as well as a QM path integral containing a quadratic and quartic term with coupling constant λ . The first series is the usual asymptotic one, where the quartic interaction is expanded in powers of λ . The second series is an expansion of the quadratic part where the interaction is left alone. This yields an absolutely convergent series in inverse powers of λ valid at strong coupling. For the basic integral, we revisit the first series and identify what makes it diverge even though the original integral is finite. We fix the problem and obtain, remarkably, a series in powers of the coupling which is absolutely convergent and valid at strong coupling. We explain how this series avoids Dyson's argument on convergence. We then consider the QM path integral (discretized with time interval divided into N equal segments). As before, the second series is absolutely convergent and we obtain analytical expressions in inverse powers of λ for the n th order terms by taking functional derivatives of generalized hypergeometric functions. The expressions are functions of N and we work them out explicitly up to third order. The general procedure has been implemented in a Mathematica program that generates the expressions at any order n . We present numerical results at strong coupling for different values of N starting at N = 2. The series matches the exact numerical value for a given N (up to a certain accuracy). The continuum is formally reached when N → ∞ but in practice this can be reached at small N .

Abstract:The linearisation of a second-order formulation of the conformal Einstein field equations (CEFEs) in Generalised Harmonic Gauge (GHG), with trace-free matter is derived. The linearised equations are obtained for a general background and then particularised for the study linear perturbations around a flat background -- the inversion (conformal) representation of the Minkowski spacetime -- and the solutions discussed. We show that the generalised Lorenz gauge (defined as the linear analogue of the GHG-gauge) propagates. Moreover, the equation for the conformal factor can be trivialised with an appropriate choice for the gauge source functions; this permits a scri-fixing strategy using gauge source functions for the linearised wave-like CEFE-GHG, which can in principle be generalised to the nonlinear case. As a particular application of the linearised equations, the far-field and compact source approximation is employed to derive quadrupole-like formulae for various conformal fields such as the perturbation of the rescaled Weyl tensor.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the initial boundary value problem of arbitrarily high-dimensional Klein-Gordon equations, posed on a bounded domain Ω ⊂ ℝd for d ≥ 1 and equipped with the requirement of boundary conditions. We derive and analyze an integral formula which is proved to be adapted to different boundary conditions for general Klein-Gordon equations in arbitrarily high-dimensional spaces. The formula gives a closed-form solution to arbitrarily high-dimensional homogeneous linear Klein-Gordon equations, which is totally different from the well-known D’Alembert, Poisson, and Kirchhoff formulas. Some applications are included as well.
