Abstract:The dressing symmetry of the most typical example among the twist affine Toda field theories-the Zhiber-Mikhailov-Shabat model - is carefully analyzed. By factorizing the group of dressing transformations we find that there exists a non-trivial Poisson structure on the parameter space of the dressing group, which is built by the semi-classical deformation of the loop algebra A2(2). As an auxiliary product we also obtain the classical r-matrix of the Zhiber-Mikhailov-Shabat model. Finally, we argue how one should quantize an integrable system with the symmetric group of dressing transformations.
On exactly solvable Yang-Baxter models and enhanced symmetries

Abstract:We study Yang-Baxter deformations of the flat space string that result in exactly solvable models, finding the Nappi-Witten model and its higher dimensional generalizations. We then consider the spectra of these models obtained by canonical quantization in light-cone gauge, and match them with an integrability-based Bethe ansatz approach. By considering a generalized light-cone gauge we can describe the model by a nontrivially Drinfel'd twisted S matrix, explicitly verifying the twisted structure expected for such deformations. Next, the reformulation of the Nappi-Witten model as a Yang-Baxter deformation shows that Yang-Baxter models can have more symmetries than suggested by the $r$ matrix defining the deformation. We discuss these enhanced symmetries in more detail for some trivial and nontrivial examples. Finally, we observe that there are nonunimodular but Weyl-invariant Yang-Baxter models of a type not previously considered.

String-Net Models with Z_N Fusion Algebra

Abstract:We study the Levin-Wen string-net model with a Z(N) type fusion algebra. Solutions of the local constraints of this model correspond to Z(N) gauge theory and double Chern-Simons theories with quantum groups. For the first time, we explicitly construct a spin-(N - 1)/2 model with Z(N) gauge symmetry on a triangular lattice as an exact dual model of the string-net model with a Z(N) type fusion algebra on a honeycomb lattice. This exact duality exists only when the spins are coupled to a Z(N) gauge field living on the links of the triangular lattice. The ungauged Z(N) lattice spin models are a class of quantum systems that bear symmetry-protected topological phases that may be classified by the third cohomology group H-3(Z(N), U(1)) of Z(N). Abstract:We study the model of an Abelian vector field with Chern–Simons term coupled to Higgs field in dimensions and quantize it canonically by using the Dirac–Bergmann algorithm. As an equivalent approach of rotational invariance in the theory, the Schwinger relation is established. We further show the exotic statistics for these configurations and establish a angular-momentum-anomaly connection.
A solvable non-unitary fermionic long-range model with extended symmetry

Abstract:We define and study a long-range version of the XX model, arising as the free-fermion point of the XXZ-type Haldane--Shastry (HS) chain. It has a description via non-unitary fermions, based on the free-fermion Temperley--Lieb algebra, and may also be viewed as an alternating $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$ spin chain. Even and odd length behave very differently; we focus on odd length. The model is integrable, and we explicitly identify two commuting hamiltonians. While non-unitary, their spectrum is real by PT-symmetry. One hamiltonian is chiral and quadratic in fermions, while the other is parity-invariant and quartic. Their one-particle spectra have two linear branches, realising a massless relativistic dispersion on the lattice. The appropriate fermionic modes arise from 'quasi-translation' symmetry, which replaces ordinary translation symmetry. The model exhibits exclusion statistics, like the isotropic HS chain, with even more 'extended symmetry' and larger degeneracies.

Abstract:Infinitely many symmetries for a (2 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation are constructed via the infinitesimal version of the 'dressing' method. These symmetries are proved to constitute an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra which contains some Abelian and Virasoro subalgebras. The hierarchies of equations generated by these symmetries are also considered: these hierarchies of equations are proved to be associated with the isospectral and non-isospectral deformations of the AKNS spectral problem.

Abstract:The concept of bounded confidence in social dynamics is introduced into the Kuramoto model. Then a model with projective symmetry is naturally induced by a principal Z(2) bundle over a circle. A Möbius strip is constructed as the manifold of interactions such that two "sides" of a local section correspond to antipodal couplings with opposite signs. We show analytically that symmetric polarization of synchronized states (conformist vs contrarian) can emerge from the collective behavior of homogeneously coupled oscillators. In the continuum limit, a generalized asymmetric model reverts to the symmetric case under uniform initial condition, whereas for networks of finite size, it exhibits richer dynamics or the ordinary behavior of the classic model via symmetry breaking, depending on the relevant parameters values. The symmetry and symmetry breaking of the synchronization state are analogous to the concepts of equality and majority of opinions in sociophysical models of opinion formation. The synchronized clusters can be one (consensus), two (polarization), or more (fragmentation), as opinion clusters.
Exactly Solvable Models for Symmetry-Enriched Topological Phases

Abstract:We construct fixed-point wave functions and exactly solvable commuting-projector Hamiltonians for a large class of bosonic symmetry-enriched topological (SET) phases, based on the concept of equivalent classes of symmetric local unitary transformations. We argue that for onsite unitary symmetries, our construction realizes all SETs free of anomaly, as long as the underlying topological order itself can be realized with a commuting-projector Hamiltonian. We further extend the construction to anti-unitary symmetries (e.g. time-reversal symmetry), mirror-reflection symmetries, and to anomalous SETs on the surface of three-dimensional symmetry-protected topological phases. Mathematically, our construction naturally leads to a generalization of group extensions of unitary fusion categories to anti-unitary symmetries.
Extended Z-invariance for integrable vector and face models and multi-component integrable quad equations

Abstract:In a previous paper, the author has established an extension of the Z-invariance property for integrable edge-interaction models of statistical mechanics, that satisfy the star-triangle relation (STR) form of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). In the present paper, an analogous extended Z-invariance property is shown to also hold for integrable vector models and interaction-round-a-face (IRF) models of statistical mechanics respectively. As for the previous case of the STR, the Z-invariance property is shown through the use of local cubic-type deformations of a 2-dimensional surface associated to the models, which allow an extension of the models onto a subset of next nearest neighbour vertices of $\mathbb{Z}^3$, while leaving the partition functions invariant. These deformations are permitted as a consequence of the respective YBE's satisfied by the models. The quasi-classical limit is also considered, and it is shown that an analogous Z-invariance property holds for the variational formulation of classical discrete Laplace equations which arise in this limit. From this limit, new integrable 3D-consistent multi-component quad equations are proposed, which are constructed from a degeneration of the equations of motion for IRF Boltzmann weights.

Symmetries and anomalies of Kitaev spin-S models: Identifying symmetry-enforced exotic quantum matter

Abstract:We analyze the internal symmetries and their anomalies in the Kitaev spin- S S models. Importantly, these models have a lattice version of a \mathbb{Z}_2 Z 2 1-form symmetry, denoted by \mathbb{Z}_2^{[1]} Z 2 [ 1 ] . There is also an ordinary 0-form \mathbb{Z}_2^{(x)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^{(y)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^T Z 2 ( x ) × Z 2 ( y ) × Z 2 T symmetry, where \mathbb{Z}_2^{(x)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^{(y)} Z 2 ( x ) × Z 2 ( y ) are \pi π spin rotations around two orthogonal axes, and \mathbb{Z}_2^T Z 2 T is the time reversal symmetry. The anomalies associated with the full \mathbb{Z}_2^{(x)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^{(y)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^T×\mathbb{Z}_2^{[1]} Z 2 ( x ) × Z 2 ( y ) × Z 2 T × Z 2 [ 1 ] symmetry are classified by \mathbb{Z}_2^{17} Z 2 17 . We find that for S∈\mathbb{Z} S ∈ Z the model is anomaly-free, while for S∈\mathbb{Z}+\frac{1}{2} S ∈ Z + 1 2 there is an anomaly purely associated with the 1-form symmetry, but there is no anomaly purely associated with the ordinary symmetry or mixed anomaly between the 0-form and 1-form symmetries. The consequences of these symmetries and anomalies apply to not only the Kitaev spin- S S models, but also any of their perturbed versions, assuming that the perturbations are local and respect the symmetries. If these local perturbations are weak, generically these consequences still apply even if the perturbations break the 1-form symmetry. A notable consequence is that there should generically be a deconfined fermionic excitation carrying no fractional quantum number under the \mathbb{Z}_2^{(x)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^{(y)}×\mathbb{Z}_2^T Z 2 ( x ) × Z 2 ( y ) × Z 2 T symmetry if S∈\mathbb{Z}+\frac{1}{2} S ∈ Z + 1 2 , which implies symmetry-enforced exotic quantum matter. We also discuss the consequences for S∈\mathbb{Z} S ∈ Z .

Some Algebraic Aspects of the Inhomogeneous Six-Vertex Model

Abstract:The inhomogeneous six-vertex model is a 2$D$ multiparametric integrable statistical system. In the scaling limit it is expected to cover different classes of critical behaviour which, for the most part, have remained unexplored. For general values of the parameters and twisted boundary conditions the model possesses ${\rm U}(1)$ invariance. In this paper we discuss the restrictions imposed on the parameters for which additional global symmetries arise that are consistent with the integrable structure. These include the lattice counterparts of ${\cal C}$, ${\cal P}$ and ${\cal T}$ as well as translational invariance. The special properties of the lattice system that possesses an additional ${\cal Z}_r$ invariance are considered. We also describe the Hermitian structures, which are consistent with the integrable one. The analysis lays the groundwork for studying the scaling limit of the inhomogeneous six-vertex model.

Bethe vectors and recurrence relations for twisted Yangian based models

Abstract:We study Olshanski twisted Yangian based models, known as one-dimensional "soliton non-preserving" open spin chains, by means of algebraic Bethe ansatz. The even case, when the bulk symmetry is $\mathfrak{gl}_{2n}$ and the boundary symmetry is $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ or $\mathfrak{gl}_{2n}$, was studied in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1710.08409" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.08409">arXiv:1710.08409</a>. In the present work, we focus on the odd case, when the bulk symmetry is $\mathfrak{gl}_{2n+1}$ and the boundary symmetry is $\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}$. We explicitly construct Bethe vectors and present a more symmetric form of the trace formula. We use the composite model approach and $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$-type recurrence relations to obtain recurrence relations for twisted Yangian based Bethe vectors, for both even and odd cases.

Supersymmetric brick wall diagrams and the dynamical fishnet

Abstract:We consider the double scaling limit of $\beta$-deformed planar N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM), which has been argued to be conformal and integrable. It is a special point in the three-parameter space of double-scaled $\gamma_i$-deformed N = 4 SYM, preserving N = 1 supersymmetry. The Feynman diagrams of the general three-parameter models form a "dynamical fishnet" that is much harder to analyze than the original one-parameter fishnet, where major progress in uncovering the model's integrable structure has been made in recent years. Here we show that by applying N = 1 superspace techniques to the $\beta$-deformed model the dynamical nature of its Feynman graph expansion disappears, and we recover a regular lattice structure of brick wall (honeycomb) type. As a first application, we compute the zero-mode-fixed thermodynamic free energy of this model by applying Zamolodchikov's method of inversion to the supersymmetric brick wall diagrams.

Volume Changing Symmetries by Matrix Product Operators

Abstract:We consider spin chain models with exotic symmetries that change the length of the spin chain. It is known that the XXZ Heisenberg spin chain at the supersymmetric point $\Delta=-1/2$ possesses such a symmetry: it is given by the supersymmetry generators, which change the length of the chain by one unit. We show that volume changing symmetries exist also in other spin chain models, and that they can be constructed using a special tensor network, which is a simple generalization of a Matrix Product Operator. As examples we consider the folded XXZ model and its perturbations, and also a new hopping model that is defined on constrained Hilbert spaces. We show that the volume changing symmetries are not related to integrability: the symmetries can survive even non-integrable perturbations. We also show that the known supersymmetry generator of the XXZ chain with $\Delta=-1/2$ can also be expressed as a generalized Matrix Product Operator.

Non-invertible and higher-form symmetries in 2+1d lattice gauge theories

Abstract:We explore exact generalized symmetries in the standard 2+1d lattice $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge theory coupled to the Ising model, and compare them with their continuum field theory counterparts. One model has a (non-anomalous) non-invertible symmetry, and we identify two distinct non-invertible symmetry protected topological phases. The non-invertible algebra involves a lattice condensation operator, which creates a toric code ground state from a product state. Another model has a mixed anomaly between a 1-form symmetry and an ordinary symmetry. This anomaly enforces a nontrivial transition in the phase diagram, consistent with the "Higgs=SPT" proposal. Finally, we discuss how the symmetries and anomalies in these two models are related by gauging, which is a 2+1d version of the Kennedy-Tasaki transformation.

Non-Hermitian generalizations of the Yao-Lee model augmented by SO(3)-symmetry-breaking terms

Abstract:We investigate non-Hermitian versions of the Yao-Lee model, supplemented by various kinds of SO(3)-symmetry-breaking terms, preserving the solvability of the model. The parent model hosts three species of Majorana fermions, thereby serving as an extension of the two-dimensional Kitaev model on the honeycomb lattice. The non-Hermitian couplings represent generic situations when the system is coupled to the environment and, thus, undergoes dissipation. The resulting eigenvalue spectrum and the eigenmodes show a rich structure of exceptional points as well as non-Hermitian skin effects. We chart out such exotic behaviour for some representative parameter regimes.

Symmetry Algebras of Quantum Matrix Models in the Large-N Limit

Abstract:Quantum matrix models in the large-N limit arise in many physical systems like Yang-Mills theory with or without supersymmetry, quantum gravity, string-bit models, various low energy effective models of string theory, M(atrix) theory, quantum spin chain models, and strongly correlated electron systems like the Hubbard model. We introduce, in a unifying fashion, a hierachy of infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of quantum matrix models. One of these superalgebras pertains to the open string sector and another one the closed string sector. Physical observables of quantum matrix models like the Hamiltonian can be expressed as elements of these Lie superalgebras. This indicates the Lie superalgebras describe the symmetry of quantum matrix models. We present the structure of these Lie superalgebras like their Cartan subalgebras, root vectors, ideals and subalgebras. They are generalizations of well-known algebras like the Cuntz algebra, the Virasoro algebra, the Toeplitz algebra, the Witt algebra and the Onsager algebra. Just like we learnt a lot about critical phenomena and string theory through their conformal symmetry described by the Virasoro algebra, we may learn a lot about quantum chromodynamics, quantum gravity and condensed matter physics through this symmetry of quantum matrix models described by these Lie superalgebras.

Abstract:It was known that quantum curves and super Chern-Simons matrix models correspond to each other. From the viewpoint of symmetry, the algebraic curve of genus one, called the del Pezzo curve, enjoys symmetry of the exceptional algebra, while the super Chern-Simons matrix model is described by the free energy of topological strings on the del Pezzo background with the symmetry broken. We study the symmetry breaking of the quantum cousin of the algebraic curve and reproduce the results in the super Chern-Simons matrix model.

Non-Abelian R-symmetries in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry

Abstract:We investigate non-Abelian R-symmetries in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric theory, where fields may transform under the R-symmetry in representations with dimension higher than one. While a continuous non-Abelian R-symmetry can always be decomposed to a $U(1)$ R-symmetry and non-R symmetries, there are non-trivial discrete non-Abelian R-symmetries that do not admit such a decomposition, and effective R-charges cannot be defined in such models. Previous results on sufficient conditions for R-symmetric supersymmetric vacua in Wess-Zumino models still hold, and do not depend on fields in representations of dimension greater than one. However, fields in higher-dimensional representations enter the sufficient conditions for supersymmetric vacua that break R-symmetry, but it is difficult to identify the independent variables which can be used to solve the F-flatness equation in this case, unless other conditions are fulfilled. We present examples with discrete non-Abelian R-symmetries of the lowest order in this case.
