Abstract:Wave, seabed, and pipeline interactions are related to pipeline stability in a sloping seabed, and previous studies have been restricted to a single pipeline. A coupled wave-seabed-pipeline interaction model based on finite element method was developed to examine the oscillatory seabed response surrounding the twin pipelines. The κ−ε turbulence model and the RANS equations are used in wave modelling, and the Biot poro-elastic theory controls the soil reaction. The accuracy of the model was confirmed by measuring the grid convergence and contrasting it with laboratory data from the literature. The wave-induced pore pressure response around buried twin pipelines in the nearshore slope zone was investigated, accounting for the effects of soil properties, pipeline layout, and wave properties. The findings demonstrate that the presence of a pipeline has a considerable impact on wave-induced seabed reactions, particularly at the crests and troughs of the waves. With increasing saturation, porosity, wave period, and height, the pore pressure at the bottom of the pipeline decreased, in contrast to the burial depth, pipeline spacing, and water depth. The pipeline radius, wave period, and height increased the liquefaction area beneath the pipeline, whereas the saturation, porosity, and burial depth contributed to a decrease. Liquefaction may occur at the top of a pipeline in low-porosity and deep burial situations. Attention must be paid to the potential lateral instability between twin pipelines caused by soil liquefaction under low porosity and broad spacing conditions.
